Great to see such floormanship! Love the roller, too. Am thinking of tackling our very uneven garage floor. Am after a finished floor surface, so I was thinking of going slightly deeper with added granite chips for durability. Whaddaya reckon?

Tip! Always dampen the floor prior to priming it. It makea the job of priming easier. Use a roller to add the water to the floor
@samyoel53844 ай бұрын
I would disagree. You want the primer to soak in to the porous floor. If using acrylic primer it’s basically like water anyway. If using universal primer then you could apply a more diluted mix first before applying a second coat.

Ok job! A second bucket and you could be mixing up the next bag all ready. Did you manage to get it nice and flat? I always end up with a couple of high or low spots. I think the best tool for a flat finish is a straight tube on a pole, and a pair wellington boots.

Lovely, clever stuff that self levelling. The bonding, is that to make the base floor non porous?

The Sbr is used as a primer to help adhesion your the concrete floor and also to bind the dust and stabilise it.

Whats that big roller called?
@jamiedavies87953 жыл бұрын
Instead of bonding the wall to bring it inline with the existingwall , just dab the boards on with drywalll adhesive that way you can get it nice and flat 👍🏼
@darrenthebuilder3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jamie I’m gonna do that as I have some adhesive. Good idea

Little tip: use rigid piping in a wall rather than flexi, the potential issue I see is it's dipped and any moisture may condensate and pool. Flexi also has a tendency to do it between the ridges anyway, potentially may cause a damp issue. Ideally it should also all be on a slight decline to the exterior.

Hey guys, i need to do this in my kitchen and in places I have 15mm to bring up to the high point. Floor area is 20sqm and the level changes vary from about 8-15mm. I was looking at levelflex to do this, but wondered, do I need to get the levels up in consecutive pours or the entire area or do i mix the compound thicker to get the levels i need?
@gavin_hill10 ай бұрын
Will be consecutive pours, do the whole floor then build up once dry, multiple coats. You can pour fine "cracker dust" small rocks into the very low spots to decrease the cost of this process. Just leave room for levelling fluid ontop. You will need to know where low spots are: -find highest spot and use your level on a long flat screed bar. - mark low spots and drill holes for plugs and screws -put screws in (low spots) and adjust height until the screw top is level with your floor high spot . - do a few screws in different spots, now fill with cracker dust and then the levelling fluid. - you can use a giant squigy (on a broom stick) to move it around, dont pour any directly onto high spots just squigy it for even finish. - repeat layers if necessary until your screw heads are all level with finished floor. Hope these tips help ! (always follow instructions from manufacturer) Also you need a foam barrier for expansion on perimeter, prime the floor (critical step) and use caulk to prevent levelling fluid from escaping the room.

What is the difference between self levelling and screed?
@darrenthebuilder3 жыл бұрын
Screen it’s thicker. Self leveller mainly for straightening our imperfections.

Was that like a roller or something you were running over the floor? What is the name of it and where is it from? Looks useful.
@darrenthebuilder3 жыл бұрын
It’s called a spiked roller. It’s a larger roller with plastic spike. It’s used to remove air from the compound and helps the product to lay better. Here’s a link to the one I use. amzn.to/3ma89BB

@@darrenthebuilder having self levelled my floor today without using one, I’d recommend a spiked roller. Got load of air bubbles. It’s ok when the mix is fluid and the bubbles pop, but one it goes off there’s a few pock Marks about. My floor has acne in places lol.

Come on Lads you don't sit Plasterboard directly to the floor, it's gonna suck up all the moisture from floor up the board creating damp issues, cut it back whilst you can. the skirting gonna hide the gap,, good hard working lads thou
@darrenthebuilder3 жыл бұрын
We replaced like for like. If you look you’ll see the layer of plasterboard below is dry which has been there for years. The floor is also dry and there is no damp in it as it has a damp proof membrane. Hope that makes sense

How flat did it turn out. This stuff is definitely not self leveling.

What is it then?
@beanieweenie9543 Жыл бұрын
@@darrenthebuilder if it was self leveling you wouldn’t have to spread with a trowel and roll it with a spiked roller, you would be able to pour it out and it would level on its own. Just saying!

@@beanieweenie9543 just because you say something dosent make it true. The product is called self levelling compound and that’s what it does.

@@darrenthebuilder if it self levels then why do you have to trowel it and roll it. If it was truly self leveling you could dump it out and do anything to it. But you can’t can you? No you have to spread it.

Your plasterboards shouldn’t be touching the floor on any ground level room, you’re asking for trouble so clearly no one should be taking tips from you
