See now many Google everything back then I only had my godmothers word. Its sad when history is some what lost, like the truth about Victoria Secret thank goodness for Tom Joyner little unknown black history stories. Using the same actors and actress truth and credit equally should go to both powerful black women visionary. Today's distractions are blocking many from aiming higher. Success Is attainable yet not many are encouraged to be self made. Note now with the Internet most young people would rather be on social media then trying to invent or better something. It's hard to prove that what we do is NOT just about doing hair. Especially, when "some" students enroll because they don't think highly enough of themselves and think that it's easy; thinking that they are going to attend a beauty college and graduate by playing with "baby dolls" all day. His-Story...I wouldn't let the Fact people are more familiar w Madam CJ Walker dampen anyone from sharing and promoting Ms Annie Malone's Contribution to Black History...there is enough room in our History for both women...and we shouldn't forget, His-Story is dominated by the people that own the media...now we have access to Social Media, so why not put the effort into promote Annie's Story so more Black People are aware of the Powerful Black Woman Entrepreneurs! 👊🏼...we must stop treating it like there is a Competition and letting us be pitted against one another! Love her Story & Madam's Story also...I'm sure there are plenty of puffery in most historical accounts, we can debate the truth til we are blue in the face...or we can learn from their example and build empires!

You know what, I only got to know about this woman through Self Made on Netflix, and honestly... I thought what an awful woman she was. But on the other hand, I thought there are 2 sides to every story, and I didnt get to hear hers... so here goes! She couldn't of been that bad, she made products to women and it seems M CJW actually stole the formula anyway... not going to take sides though. I appreciate them both for playing such a crucial role in history x

Sad but True I had to do my own research they did that bad stuff for her to push a narrative.

Quietly, I was disappointed in the series because it made both of them look horrible. MCJW was one of my favorites to do reports on and I learn bout Annie in the mist. I didn't read half of what was shown in that series.

Mrs. Malone lived to be 87-years old; she lived long and prospered. Madame Walker was also prosperous but passed away at the age of 51. Walker was on a mission, but Malone did just as much good. The Netflix series "Self Made" depiction is terribly unfair (& untrue) to her legacy. Disappointing, but at least we are now also learning about this great lady.

I’m glad someone is finally putting the truth out about who was the one of the first person to started the hair care business and first Black Female Millionaire not Madam CJ Walker please read the book about how she started the business and put Ms Walker on

The acting was good; I know M.Carter, LeBron James and O. Spenser worked hard but I think hiring Kasi "Bigger Long" Lemmons was a mistake. Could have included A. Malone and that would have shown Madam CJ Walker and her working together as Madam was Annie's top sales-woman. Just glad to see folks doing research along with learning truths.

I am glad the truth is out hopefully Ms. Malone will have her movie told. Maybe an Ava Duvaney or Spike Lee could produce it. The lady was a genius and self made. Facts!
@JOHNKIRBY20774 жыл бұрын
Self Made led us to believe Addie Monroe based off Ms. Malone failed and Madame C.J. Walker did everything for our black community. Big ups to both ladies for helping to shape our race into something better but the misleading is too drastic not to mention. 💯💯💯

Self-Made Madame CJ Walker story painted a false narrative of this lady
@yaafowaa41494 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, this story typically highlights the ups and downs of madame CJ Walker and challenges she overcame before accomplished . Although her character was negatively portrayed, it was not purposely to tarnish her image but to showcase raw content( in terms of competition and revenge)of each passing stage.

"SELF MADE" was inspired by true events. Any piece of work that is "inspired by true events" is mostly a figment of the author's untrue imagination. It's fiction. You have to take it with a grain of salt. Especially when the soundtrack is from 2020 and the film set in the early 1900s🙄 I can't stand when they do that. 😠

There are certain facts that need to be explained and shown if the movie is based on a true story. You can't leave major things out.
@OisO84 жыл бұрын
@@Michelle-pn9xt If I make no error, in the beginning it says "inspired by" not "based on" From my experience, films that are based on true stories stick closer to the reality of the story, while "inspired" stories can go any direction the inspiration takes them. I've read whole novels that were inspired by one paragraph of a news paper clipping 😐

I thought it was weird at first, but I actually came to Like the Soundtracks, lol! I think there's Nothing wrong with adding a bit of Fiction, but I do think they should be More judicious, and only fictionalize Trivial matters. They should also Write More in the Credits about the Work being Fictionalized....

Annie Malone was a great business lady. But what I took frm the movie was Annie's sales agents had to have a certain look (fair, light skinned). Even in the pictures shown in this video ..the workers making my products were darker skinned. Also we can't ignore the fact that colorism within our race is real. I can imagine it was no different then.

Black Americans have such a rich in illustrious history in the United States of America. Even though we came out of slavery we were still able to accomplish so much. This is why the government and other vanguards in the United States go to great lengths to hide our history.

It looks like Annie Malone created new businesses, built communities and gave her riches away throughout her career. MCJ Walker reinvested, kept profit, grew her business and made donations to a lesser extent.
