It is quite an amazing piece! You are very courageous for being so open, but it must be such a healing process for you. You are very fortunate to know and be able to get a grasp on your mental struggles. Thank God we have the technology to medicate but a huge congratulations to you for being on top of it and putting in the effort to take the help that is provided by the medicine. Keep up the amazing work, and congratulations on all of your accomplishments( wife, house, etc. etc.)!

This is a very brave testimony, human and in tone. It touched me. Anxiety is sometimes related to the fear of giving up and in your beautiful painting you put a lot of strength to maintain together the two parts of this Russian-doll self-portrait (trying to put yourself together probably). You even consider to sew those parts, for more security. But you also seem to know that beautiful things can come out from inside, as those bright and saturated petals show (and if we can see petals, there must be flowers inside)

The daughter of a Swedish comedian once said (and he quoted during a show) "it's just your body telling you it's there". Coming from a toddler, I think it's a pretty nice way of looking at whatever is hurting you, whenever it's something you can't run away from.

I'm so glad that you are healthy and put yourself back on check and got back on your medication. I don't think it was wrong for you to tried to get off from meds and see if you could be healthy without them Fortunately, while it didn't necessary worked as you expected you were humble enough to get back on them at be good. Now as far as your self portrait... holy shit! This is so good and I bet like therapy too. I was hoping you add those days in the middle as you were going for. I wish I could be at student at wherever is it that you teach. When I went to art school in intermediate I didn't want to do oil painting at all... I adjusted thought it was so messy. Too bad they didn't have Photoshop and iPad pro with apple pencil and Procreate back then.
