Oh my. I grew up in a small town in VA, and we also stored meat in the local freezer locker! Those were good days.

Well done Ma'am! So many great tips. Nothing like adversity to show what you can do. But I think you about summed it up with your last comment. Contentment is certainly something that is lacking now a days. I feel it has been brought on by the immediate gratification era we are in, home reno tv shows that remodel a perfectly good kitchen, trips to lavish resorts, keeping up with the jones's, the cooking shows, etc. I can't help but think that although folks say they want less stress and a slower life, they are not willing to give up these things that are creating the lack of contentment. I don't know, maybe I have it all wrong too. Anyway, good video folks! Sausage looked and sounded good Jason. Well done.

Well, I'm glad you enjoyed the video this week, and yes, it's easy to come out of contentment when instant gratification is around every corner. 😀

Beth your Mother really had to be frugal and well organized with 12 children. I’m glad you had such a wonderful Mom. What a great place to start from. Great tips for preparing for the bad weather days and just making the dollar stretch. Skills to take you through the good times and hard times! You are an amazing person!❤ God bless you and your family!❤

❤ it's great that Jason is a partner in the food dept. My grandma had so many farm skills . We inherited that family dairy farm but with modern grocery stores, as happens skills got diluted

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and what has inspired you and what is inspiring you now to keep those core Values. I believe the older we get and as family becomes fewer more so than greater….we treasure all the things that have sustained us without us really even knowing them. My mom taught us how to can food and in earlier times we had a pig or two and we always, always had a garden to rely on. I keep telling my children and grands that after we got our chores done we could play outside till the night lights came on and whosever house you were at…..next door or 1/2 mile away you better be home by what time mother said supper would be or before the outside lights came on. They thought that was crazy! How we all played together in the church-community together. After lunch on Sunday we would go to down our friends cow pasture and play baseball….. we would load up in the back of their fathers truck and he would haul us down to a place to play. But when evening church time came we loaded up without any fussing and everyone headed back to church. The youth part was casual on Sunday night so you came how you left the ball field(cow pasture)! Didn’t matter if you attended the same church or not….everyone come on and play and go to youth church afterwards!!! So many don’t experience those lifetime of connections and experiences now. I think this is why they must feel alone and don’t care about anyone or anything but themselves. It saddens me deeply that all the generations to come may be more tech savvy but in my opinion they are less worldly-community-family connected. Thank you for passing down what you remember and I will take that as a challenge to write these down in a book for my children, grandchildren and ones yet to be born so when I have passed they can still an anchor and know those who did come before them and who loves them and even loved them before they were born. I will include pictures as well. I hope this will keep them grounded and know they are loved by us and that Our Heavenly Father father loves them very much as well! Sending much LoVe to everyone on Crowleys Flower Farm! I don’t think we meet by accident. I think we meet by destiny and WE ALL CAN LEARN FROM ONE FROM ANOTHER! Amen!

I enjoyed your video. It got me thinking about my own way of life here on the shoreline of Southern Connecticut. We downsized from a large house to a seaside cottage with not much storage so I had to get really creative. Every January I get this urge to clean out a lot of things, it's a great snowy/rainy day project. I re-arranged my whole craft room and sorted clothes, donating or tossing items as I went along. I did go through some kitchen cabinets as well, and feel a whole lot better about how we buy food and supplies. I am making my own bread this year and with a shortage of yellow canned beans I plan on growing my own. Thank you for sharing your ideas and thoughts.

I purge our pantry at least once a year and donate to the local food pantry before things expire. And you’re right about how introspective we are when someone close dies. A dear friend and her husband were in a tragic accident Dec 9 and he died. My dearest friend was in level 1 Trauma ICU for 1 month. She is 80 and recovery from 18 broken ribs, a shattered T12 and a new shiny steel rod in her back, learning to walk again, eat and breathe. All this time as I’ve gone over to disassemble her ranch and rehome 31 chickens the Father reminds me of how fragile life is and to stop toiling and fretting. ❤ Carpe Diem

Hi Beth! I really enjoyed this video. I think maybe a lot of us have many of the same thoughts as you. I keep my freezer, refrigerator and cupboards as full as possible. It is nice to have things without worrying. I do enjoy listening to you talk about both of your families; your dad and mom and sibs and then your husband and children. You have a pleasant voice and it brings a sense of peace when you share. Hope each of you have a good week.

Such a great video to remind us all that we need to make due. I totally agree that going to the grocery store has gotten so expensive. I grew up with a Mom that taught me how to preserve what ever you can. Her lessons remain with me to this day. We used to glean from others as well. It certainly taught me how wonderful sharing can be. Thank you for sharing and you looked so refreshed and beautiful in this video! I always look forward to watching and learning from you! ❤

We always purge our pantry. Actually, everything. Then we pass everything on to friends and family. So if there's open lotion, but I ended up hating it...goes to my friend. Can foods, meat, seasoning and drinks that we haven't used and don't plan on using before the expiration date all get passed on. Even to blankets and clothes. I always say, " Hey, I got a bag of miscellaneous, keep what you want and pass the rest on." It's a good way to keep down waste.
