Great video, man. I enjoyed this. Informative and in language, a poor white boy from Kentucky can understand. Thanks a lot.👍

KY guy, best comment I’ve ever had. Got me laughing at 7am. I am from the boarder of NC/SC so I speak the language very well. Plus my parent’s living in KY for 9 years.

A better way for any tomatoe wicking bucket. Glue the bottom of jug to bucket. Run fill pipe wild - any length you need and use it to support the tomatoes instead of tomatoe stakes or cages. If growing indeterminate tomatoes, install a Y fitting at a convenient height to add water then add another length of pipe to the height needed. The PVC pipe will last forever. You can also use a smaller pipe size that fits in hole already in top of jug and then use an adapter where you put Y to enlarge fill hole

I don't tilt my tomatoes and setup the cages only once every 3th year,and in a square of 4 seedlings space 10 inches wider than your normal because they will thrive and require only 1/3 the cost and 1/3 your effort and 1/3 of the water and the most productive method I've tried and I've tried at least 7 methods and I add only bone meal and lime if P H says it's needed. If interested get back to me

Thanks for the video this really helps I have an idea for you that you might have thought of and that's this would it be possible to plant 10 to 20 to 30 the 40 or even 51 gallon jugs all over the yard with pipes coming up off the ground and then maybe capping off the pipes or running the pipes 21PVC pipe that has a hose connection would that be possible to do this directly in the dirt and a row or is it better in a 5 gallon bucket what are your thoughts again thanks so much for the video may God bless you

Stick a bamboo pole or something skinny down the pipe, then pull it out. Compare bamboo to hole and you can measure water level easily. Should never water from above using this system. Yes you can grow but you are just flushing your nutrients. Water from below using the pipe and a funnel. Will get a bigger yield this way. Also use a board or donut shaped to place on top to keep the rain out to prevent the aforementioned nutrient loss.
@poppagsworld72945 ай бұрын
@zaneyoung1558 Good suggestions. I haven’t thought of the wood dowel to check level. I do reapply some type of nutrients ever two weeks.

isn't that 1 inch PVC you are using? You said get 1 1/2 inch but that doesn't seem correct.
@poppagsworld72949 ай бұрын
OM Goodness, Good catch refigerationguy. This video is 11 months old, and you caught that. I haven't watched it in forever so I might have said 1 1/2". Thank you for watching and commenting. I just posted a new bucket garden video yesterday; I you need you to watch it too.

All that jug and such is unnecessary. I've been raising tomatoes in buckets for 45 years and all you need is a drain hole in the side of the bucket. It will hold water up to the drain hole ever how high you drill the hole. I drill mine 1 inch above the bottom and hold 1 in for the wicking.
@poppagsworld72948 ай бұрын
Good deal Jim. I’m assuming the jug is for a slow release of water so I can be lazy for a week without watering. Thank you for watching and commenting
@jimm8748 ай бұрын
True but in 100° Temps they will drain that bucket everyday. This year I'm trying two tomatoes per bucket with the thought if they got stressed I could clip one. So far they are doing great. Seems they are pushing one another instead of one hindering the other. My determinate are belly high and loaded the indeterminate are head high and loaded, been picking those over a week now.
@poppagsworld72948 ай бұрын
Oh wow! Hey let me know how they turn out. I might try a bucket without the water jug and do two plants in it next year
