Are you using solid copper domestic cables for your 240v ?
@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife2 жыл бұрын
No as these will fracture over time you need to use tri rated cable / multi stranded cable that will allow the cable to flex and move with your and and the vibrations it creates

@@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife yes thats why im asking as a lot of people use household cable not knowing

@@clarkspiemuncher24 I've seen some of the top youtube guys using it in builds they are doing for people I'm an electrical engineer mate so always try to keep people in the know with out offering professional advice as when you do that it open up a whole other can of worms 😁

Great video, I’m in the process of planning a conversion my self and listening to you talking another getting the electrical check done. One thing I’d like to know if your able to answer is based on your system “what the rough costing for the testing to be completed and a certificate issued?

To be honest I would be guessing but a full habitation check is around £250 and your electrical system would be checked as part of this inspection habcheck.co.uk/page/motorhome-habitation-check?gclid=CjwKCAiAx8KQBhAGEiwAD3EiP-4gRgyPWXUnNLOW6ardRvC4J8GZRvnkpsGgapCeE83y1txefYMtxBoCGOsQAvD_BwE Hope this helps 👍

Great video but I am curious why you didn't use DP mcb breakers in the consumer unit, i was under the impression they were now a requirement? thanks.
@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and question so the BS 7671 does state that DP MCB should be used the reason is to protect the end user from reversed polarity I chose not to install DP MCB as I check the polarity before I energise my circuits, I do have a means of DP isolation in the way of the RCD if required, you raised a good point my arrangement is a departure from the regulations but I have procedures in place to mitigate the requirements Many thanks

@@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife Thanks for that. I'm dong the same as i am having 5 different circuits and with DP mcbs, the box would be enormous. I'm investigating how to install a warning light on the consumer unit to warn about reverse polarity, and get into the habit of 'tripping' the rcd at the end of each camp before reconnecting power to the system on the next journey.

I use one of these with a plug top tester cheap simple and very reliable www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N2VJ5RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_8XD19NP8Z55B59BV9TP4

I always use ferrules on flexible wire. Also many folk don't understand RCD functions and earth/ ground/ bonding/ Cpc arrangements. Inverters, even isolated via a transfer switch often don't have neutral - earth bonding incorporated into them ? Thus the test button may work on an RCD but unless they run an earth loop impedance test the device may not trip under fault conditions... So the eebads won't protect anyone if the neutral has no reference to ground. I use a normally closed contactor to bond source N to E. Energised to open when on grid hook up so the rcd doesn't nuisance trip at the Electric Hook Up point. Always get a sparky to test it all folks...
