@@SelfBuiltStories Hey ho again. I got a question: Will the MPPT shut down by itself when the battery is fully charged? How did you make sure it will not charge any longer when your battery is full? Thanks in advance!
@SelfBuiltStories
@SelfBuiltStories Жыл бұрын
@@roadboogie It never shuts down as such but it has a 3 stage charging profile. You configure all the settings in the app to match your batteries, and then when it's charging it goes through from bulk (fast charge at maximum current) to absorption (constant voltage with current slowly decreasing) and finally float (voltage and current reduced). So once the batteries are charged it just happily sits there in float mode keeping them topped up. You set it once and then pretty much just forget about it (unless you're like us and like to always check how much power you're getting 😛)

Thanks for that, I'm using all same electronics that you are using and everything is almost identical, same brand, same capacity, except the solar panels size which are a little bigger and the lithium battery that I'm using is a single 200 Ah lithium iron unlike your double 100 Ah. Other than that I'm following your tutorial to the letter from the start of my project as I think that it is the best tutorial on KZbin by far. @SelfBuiltStories
@SelfBuiltStories 2 ай бұрын
Cheers, yeah we're really happy with our set up, it's been working out great so far! And yep, we wanted to make the batteries as balanced as possible and went with the diagonal method as we figured it was the simplest for what we needed. But you're right we didn't need to make the +ve and -ve from the board to the batteries the same length, only the ones between the batteries (www.smartgauge.co.uk/batt_con.html ). We found that on another resource at the time but as you say, it's not necessary and adds extra resistance. All the other wires in the van are of course just whatever the shortest and most convenient run was. Extending the -ve a bit did allow it to tuck neatly by the wall though so it worked out well in the end! 👍

Love the hand-drawn wiring diagram and the neat wiring. Very impressive! 😎👍 I've never seen a wire crimper for a vice. Makes perfect sense. You should have a small list of sources in the description for stuff like that (for copycats like us...😉) You've had a great year getting lots of things done on your project and taken us along for the ride. THANK YOU! 🙏 Have a great 2022 and stay safe! ✨🎉🍾🥂 Best regards from Germany - Volker & Claudia

Thank you! Cheers! Yeah we do like our paper diagrams, we have a big notebook full of them 🙂That's a good idea about adding all the items we've used, we'll get round to that at some point for sure. That crimper did say you can also use it by bashing it with a hammer but in our experience, for the thick cables we were using, that was not happening at all 😛The vice worked nice to give really tight controlled crimps so very happy with it, was quite cheap too. Hope you are both enjoying the holidays and thanks for your continued support. We wish you a very Happy New Year too 😊🎉🍾🥂

@@SelfBuiltStories Just ordered the crimper on the big "A". I saw it in the UK for about £12 - here it's € 23. Still a bargain when comparing it to the hand- and hydraulic crimpers...😊

Ours was about £25 so looks like you got the better bargain 😃

@@SelfBuiltStories Few bargains to be had these days... Have lumber prices exploded in the UK as well? A 12mm sheet of smooth birch ply 1250 x 2500mm is currently @ 77 Quid here - if there's stock. 🙄

Yeah they have a bit! We haven't bought any 12mm recently but we had to get some more 6mm and it went up from around £32 to £44 in 4 months 🤑Fortunately we bought quite a bit of stock at the beginning so haven't had to get much more... yet!

Another cracking video. I had no idea the electrics could be so complex and while I won't be doing a van conversion anytime soon, if I were yours would be the one I'd use. Love the way you are both so involved and the way you both do everything. Keep it up and looking forward to the next video
