Growing the Panama Berry Tree is definitely a recommendation I'm happy to give to all backyard food gardeners. It's a good looking tree and produces fruit for most of the year - it's an early fruiter too!

In Indonesia, they're called "talok/kersen". They have a lot of branch, easy to climb if they're big enough. The trees grow almost anywhere. Children and fruit bats love them.

I did an air layering on a big fruiting tree on a friends property about 6 weeks ago on a branch that looks like it'll make a nice tree. Supprisingly it allready has a bunch of roots growing and looks like it'll be ready to cut off soon. Didnt expect it to go so well/quickly in winter.

Thank you I live in America phoenix Arizona and your knowledge has helped me immensely considering a lot of our plants here are from Australia The first tree I planted in my backyard was an Australian bottle tree now I’m addicted to planning fruit trees. Thank you again.

I plant a lot of companions for my fruit trees, such as sweet potato and fast growing pigeon pea. Panama berry trees that I planted (Northern NSW) 18 months ago are 3 m tall, bushy and fruiting like crazy.

In Vietnam we call it "Trứng cá" which literally mean fish's eggs. This is from tiny yellowish seeds within the fruit. Vietnamese children love climbing the trees and eating the fruits. It's a popular tree in Vietnamese countryside.

I was wondering if it would do good in my NC coastal climate. its usually pretty hot during the summer and the winter can get to freezing temps but it usually just frosts. Do I need to keep it in during winter? Or could I just put a sheet over it for the frost?

I love this tree and its pretty common in the secondary growth vegetation in the warm areas of the republic of Panama, in all tropical central America, tropical South America and the Caribbean islands and this tree species is native to the American continent but widespread in other tropical and subtropical areas outside the Americas.

I planted one of these 8 months ago Northern NSW... now it's over 3 metres tall. While summer was dry, I provided fairly average watering compared to other fruit trees. I planted 2 more a few months later with nowhere near the same growth rate. Excellent pioneer tree!

I live on the Gold coast and have had astonishing growth on my two. I think it would certainly help if the competing grass was removed and a layer of organic mulch/compost was applied. Drip irrigation is an optional extra if you have the water👍

we call it ceri kampung (village cherry) in malaysia. it grows wild everywhere and they grow really huge. nobody here eats the fruit anyways. its more like a weed or useless tree here that grows in wastelands and beside drains. looking at americans or australians loving the fruit can be a bit of a shock to us hahaha. i have a seedling in my yard. and im just gona leave it there as a sacrificial fruit source for the birds so they will leave my figs, longans, lychees, and my various berries alone.
