Really good to see a review with all the (odd) irons in a set. Means so much more than just hitting a 7 iron. Sometimes with these reviews I think it would help to have the previous model for a comparison on numbers (particularly with drivers) and for the looks when a brand says that they’ve changed this and that. Also it will be useful to say where an iron is supposed to fit in a line up. Ping’s “max” irons are the g730s aren’t they? Is there a g740 on the way? Seems like these irons fit a gap between those and the i530s.

well guess what. I love my isi sand wedge and lob wedge Be Cu. They are very confident looking and still perform really well. your thoughts on that. I use G25 irons. the lofts are higher than the newer clubs / getting the lofts stronger which I believe is not needed. decent angle should be high to get that ball to stop quickly. Ping made a tremendous move to offer retro lofts which basically over half golfers need. correct? very good review! Cheers

Looks-wise on the back for sure a step up from g430. Good of you to test the short irons for short game/bunker. If Ping is targeting a lower handicap demography now with the g4 series, these need to be able to do more than just getting the ball anywhere on the green. Had the same issue after I was fitted into the i525 in 2023 - coming from the Mizuno MX series, I was used to hit far more delicate short game shots - could not do that with the new PW, so got myself an extra PW (from Mizuno, to compensate for my betrayal after 20 years of playing their irons!) to avoid rocketing the ball all across the green with these hot faces.

I recently gave up my Ping G15s for Mizuno JPX925 HL. Love my new clubs. Didn't continue ping because none of the new models could match the feel of my G15s. The Mizunos feel great and gained about 9 yards distance with each club.

What shaft? I fancy the forgiveness of the jpx925 as well. PS: I would expect that kind of distance gain by the way with the lofts being 3 (?) degrees stronger compared to a G15. I had the same loft effect when I changed from Mizuno MX300 to my current Ping i525s

@@pbode1 I am 67 so I went with the MMT 55 senior flex shaft with lamkin sonar grips. I am tall , went with the max 2 degree up lie. Feel great! Hit shots out on the toe and still got good distance. Actually the longer clubs are only 1 degree stronger than the G15s.

@ Cool. Nice win of yardages then! I just switched from regular steel to regular graphite at 55. I'm tall as well at 6'6". fitter got me another 0.5 inch longer to 1.5 and 3 degrees upright :-) which poses a lot less strain on my back as well. grip going from slim to medium. Quite a change, my first round with them was positively awful, but mastered them after a few weeks.

1.5 in long seems very long as a current fitter but if you hit it well all that matters.

I don't get why Ping include a SW (56) with a standard set but not a gap (U). After I bought a set of G425's last year (at a heavily discounted price) I was luckily able to sell the unused SW at a reasonable price and bought the UW to match the set whilst keeping my Cleveland 56 & 60.

I would love to see you hit older irons like G20 G25 G30 vs these G440s and see the numbers. I bet. decent angle/ stopping power/ spin is better on the older pings. This is very important and more important than distance to the average player. the ball is going to run out off the green if you do not have the height. correct?

I would say a lot of high handicappers tend to hit more on the toe. That extra little bit of length will in effect move the contact closer to the middle of the face.

Alex, the Ping Eye 2 SW is a square-faced sandwedge. You hit it straight on to the target. It doesn’t work with you opening the club face. That’s just not how that club works.

Feed back ? Never yet hit a club that I could not determine where I hit it. Perhaps some not as clearly as others , sure. But never had to guess where on the face I hit it.

I always laugh when reviewers comment about the offset. Compare this to the Ping irons of the 90s which had a half inch of offset, and you'll conclude the offset of the G440 is more similar to a blade of not too long ago.

100% about the wedges in almost every set ever made. No feel. Those lofts are all still pretty strong. My Miura wedge is at 47 degrees. Yikes What about using their wedges around the green and see wha the few is like?

Sorry mate I think you need to look at the spec’s and length of other manufacturers TaylorMade, Cobra and Callaway before you “worry about the length of the 6,5 and 4irons of the Ping 440.

Moe Norman used to modify his clubs himself with an angle iron and a welding machine and the lead he added to them he left exposed he was the top golfer in Canada for 8 years so enough about what the damn clubs look like. STOP! Anyone doing a review about distance must always start with....... yes, WHAT IS THE STATIC LOFT on the #7i!!! At 92mph, the carry should be between 175 ~185 yrds with a 34 Loft but with a 28 deg (1.5 club stronger), anyone can easily get 200 Carry even with lesser speed!
