Selling PC Towers to e-scrap buyers can work out ok if your getting a decent price per kg, here I evaluate a selection of general pc towers and see how much they're worth complete and how much after scrapping them out.
Check out my recommended safety products, Furnaces & stuff on amazon.. www.amazon.com...
Obviously there's more value in depopulating pc towers so if scrapping them out, pulling off all the gold recovery items like ic chips, flat packs, gold plated ide pins, mlcc's, tatntalum capacitors etc will net a much higher scrap value.

Thanks Ben! Got my air scrapper and area all setup, started depopulating boards. I will stockpile everything I take off boards and then sell the boards to save space and knowing I don't have the equipment to process them. The way I receive my free e-scrap is only computer boards, server boards, hard drives etc. No metal cases, fans, plastic, or wires, which is fine because I don't have the space to hold onto for this type of stuff. Because the stuff that I am stacking is relatively small I can literally stockpile hundreds if not thousands of the precious metal components. I will find some place to refine when it's time but will try to recover the gold from fingers myself! I want to thank you Ben for your informative videos and hopefully someday when I have a bit more experience I will pass this knowledge onto others. Me and my wife live on a small farm and make and raise most everything we need and looking to be more self sufficient everyday. Take care

Good info to remember! I absolutely love to scrap anything. I spend 6 to 7 hours a day scrapping items like copper motors and many other things. My favorite by far is depopulating every component on every circuit board. I know I lose money sometimes but it's my passion! I'm waiting for 15 to 20 years to refine. By then there might be easier, safer and more profitable ways to do it than now.

Yeah that's the shot, plus there's always the option to sell the components to an established refiner, and precious metals might go up a lot by then so it's a win/win. the better you sort it now will pay off later when you have clean ready to go commodities.

eWaste Ben I have access to hundreds of used medicine bottles. I label the tops of the bottles with GOLD PINS #1, GOLD PINS #2. And dozens of other labels to keep track. When a bottle is full I weigh it then seal the lid on, then put it in a safe spot. Any advise on if you'd change anything I'm doing? I love to learn! Even if you said I was screwing things up, I'd take it well. Because I don't get offended personally. But I'll get offended if someone slams you, I don't have a problem saying something to them in your defense!!!

That sounds ok, 2 grades of pins is good, partial plated & full plated. I don't mind a bit of banter and critisism is helpful so long as they're respectful it's ok

win you come across a tower with no name most of the time it will b a custom tower witch will have a lost of spends parts in it it is normally worth testing and reselling the parts ram hard drives video cards are all wort re selling most video cards are worth 20$ or more working on sites like ebay if your going to scrap pc towers you should build a test rig to see if the parts work a hard drive over 250gb is worth selling the cd drive is worth selling win i scrap a tower i make around 50$ bundling the part is helpful to sell the item if your building a new tower on a budget your going to need ram a hard drive video card power supply dont sell well

Blue Smoke How long did it take him to make?
@bluesmoke8714
@bluesmoke8714 4 жыл бұрын
Not long, an old rack and pinion set, old drill, duct tape, couple tacs with the weld. The plates from the drives hang from sticks with fishing line. Took him all told about a day to make 50 5 plate chimes for the flea market, the dealer there pays him $20 @ sells them for $50. But that's Zig, he's an ambitious f'er, it would take me months.

Fantastic video about scrapping PC's ! This is what i was waiting for a long time to see and have a better idea what are pc's worth, scrapping value if someone is able to get it really cheap or for nothing. Thanks for this ! I still wish to know, how much gram could contain each pc even though each manufacturer is different. And it also depends on the year made (age). I would love to start scrapping as hobby to see if that could bring me somewhere one day :D thanks

+lubiatty1 if your scrapping electronics then most of the quick cash comes from copper, copper wire, transformers, aluminium, steel etc. the gold recovery should be your bonus after scrapping a lot of stuff, so for just gold recovery you need a lot of e-waste to make it worth it, I'm still collecting the gold pins etc after 2 years, I survive on the other metals and sometimes selling good electronics on ebay first
@lubiatty1

yes i agree ! but gold also is the most valuable metal in pc's therfore i am intresting so much about it. If i come across a rare pcu or some other stuff, i will sell it rather than scrap it. As i said, just a hobby for me now and see where it's gonna bring me after all. Thanks for all advices.

+stanky budz not much budz, no-one really buys them officially, you might sell some on ebay, maybe $1 each, they don't sell too well but if your scrapping out h/d's completely then maybe try selling in lots of 10

Anything with a Core 2 or newer is likely to be better quality hardware than in the past and thus a still-working machine. Sell em. Anything Pentium 4 and older, useless outside of museums. Dead caps and ESD vulnerability everywhere.

Hi Ben, another great video! Would you have any idea how much you would increase your profit if you were to depopulate the boards and separate the other precious metals? I know time is money and you don't get a whole lot of precious metals from one computer but you keep stacking and some day it will pay off. The "end users" who are purchasing e-scrap for refining are making money or they wouldn't be doing this. The big difference between us and them is the quantity and equipment they have to refine. This is kinda where I want to end up knowing It will take a long time to stack and a lot of work but I think of it as a savings account and I get all my e-scrap for free. Take care Ben - Thanks
@eWasteBen
@eWasteBen 8 жыл бұрын
+Tom Geer high end e-waste refiners are getting everything, not just gold, silver etc but about 15 different metals. so i'd be guessing at 3 times the value if you depopulate and got the components refined, but remember that you can still sell depopulated boards for something because them big refiners can still get value from them, whereas backyard refining can't because we don't get all the different metals. If your not relying on cash flow from boards then yeah, depopulate and stockpile long term, one day gold may shoot up very high and that's when you cash in, refine yourself or send to a toll refiner.

hey Ben could u tell me how to process gold plated pins? what's the chemical recipe?
@eWasteBen
@eWasteBen 8 жыл бұрын
+Raymond Reyes I don't process my gold, they start with 50/50 nitric & water to process the pins, then they use aqua regia to get the gold, it's quite dangerous so do some research, the stuff can kill you.

That's brutal... factoring the extra time to take apart the machine and the extra time to sell the sorted metals (maybe having to deal with several buyers) it doesn't seem worth it. You could make more money working at minimum wage. :(
