Bookmarks make great business cards and conversation starters. I usually hang at side or a little in front of my table and if someone looks over I say hi, then offer them a boomark.

Hi Tanni! Glad you had a friend at the convention :). And I am glad you had fun hanging out. I heard about how it is hard to get enough to make back convention related fees. So cool that you sold art too. Your art rocks! So does your display. Great tip about the business card. I love it when creators have business cards at conventions. Great tip on asking whether convention goers like the genre you write in. I remember a writer at a con asking if people like fantasy as she has a fantasy series :). That is what got me intrigued. How do you like Square? I remember some creators who love it and some dislike it. :) I love your writing. I love your art as well. You are talented and rad! :) :) Good tip on researching how many attend the cons and applying early. Go Tanni! I think it is cool that you had a booth at a farmer's market. Great that you took the chance. And, I am glad that the table fee was low. Wow- I am surprised to hear about how long the insurance was for the year. But, I am glad to hear you made back the fees :). Glad it was a nice experience! It is really hard, I agree, to talk about ourselves. I struggle with that as well. Glad to hear about the positive reactions at the farmer's market (esp. how people found it cool to see a local author). You rock! Proud of you! Go Tanni! I support you. :) I am cheering you on too!

I've just discovered your channel - I love the thoughtful advice - it is so helpful. I have two questions. Do you price your books in person the same as you sell from Amazon et al? I could imagine rounding to the nearest $5 to make cash handling easier for example. Also, do you sign you books there, and if so do you offer, or do you wait for them to suggest it? Thank you....

I do price mine a little lower than they are on Amazon (usually I just take off the extra 99c, as mine are all priced 12.99, 17.99, etc. so I'll change them to an even 12, 17, etc.) I still make a little more selling them in person than I would getting the royalties from the online sale, so that also allows me to offer some discounts if people buy multiple books, and I like doing that. I have seen a lot of authors charge the same price for all of their books ($15 each, sometimes $20 each), and then they'll give a discount if people buy multiple. Rounding to the nearest $5 would make things easier, but I like to keep my prices comparable to what they are online. I also have a wide variety in length of books (one is less than 100 pages and one is 450 pages) which really impacts my print costs, so it doesn't make sense for me to price them all the same, but I do think that's a good strategy and helps keep things simple if you can make that work. I do offer to sign books whenever someone buys them, and I don't think I've ever had anyone turn me down on that. They usually seem very pleased that I offered, and I think it's a nice thing to do that hopefully leaves a good impression with the reader and maybe encourages them to actually read/review the book and/or pick up the next one. When I put my books in series bundles and have them all wrapped up, I'll always sign them before I wrap them.
