Good video. I will say from personal experience if you go through heritage it’s extremely helpful if you have an in, meaning someone with a preferred status account I sold off my collection of AU55/58 Barber Half dollars and having a dealer friend of mine having an account with heritage where he gets 108% of hammer allowed him to give me 100% of hammer When the buyers are paying a 20% BP, that surely affects bidding Generic consignors with no status will get porked on both ends Getting less than 100% hammer and the bidding squelched by the 20% BP vs. GC 10% THe other thing is you want to make sure your coins get in a major auction like the ANA or FUN, not some secondary auction In closing if you don’t have an inside connection and or you don’t have super rare or super valuable coins, I’m not going to put a number on what that threshold is but I would say if the average point is not at least a four figure going to be better off going to great collections in my opinion

Great video. I’ve purchased from both but never sold on either. With Heritage, they also charge 2.5% of the total (hammer + 20% buyers premium + shipping) if you use a credit card. Like you said, Great Collections charges only 12.5% Buyers Premium, discounted to 10% for wire/ACH/check. I’ve had more success with GC auctions as a buyer, and I like that their auctions end on Sundays so I can bid last minute, where it seems the Heritage auctions end mid-week when it’s tougher for me to watch the auction end. GC’s shipping costs seem more reasonable too, in my opinion, and they ship fast.

Excellent information. I have never sold coins through anything but eBay. I hear good things about Great Collections too. Thanks 👍

If a coin is valued at over $1k, then Great Collections is much better than eBay due to lower net fees and a better audience to buy. But sub $1k, I'd say they are a toss up.

Your video helped make the decision to sell at GC. Took several months for the sale to appear but how many people are willing to pay over 5k for a coin? Pretty happy but had to call them up to get payment sent as it was getting close to 21 days after the sale.

I was thinking Heritage is 15% buyers premium…so Heritage is getting the money at BOTH ends of the deal…HOLY COW !! If I do any selling it will be Great Collections. I have already instructed my kids to sell my coins thru Great Collections after I pass on, IF they want to sell the collection or even if they only wanna sell a few

Those are interesting details between the two auction houses and I’ll have to keep that in mind when the time comes. What are you expecting to get out of those two Indian cents ? I really like that 1880

Thanks Tylonn. If I net $1200 after fees, I'd be happy. It's awesome with some great rim toning. Just trying to trade some in for another coin I really want.

Both are good auction houses I prefer heritage only when I’m looking for rarer German coins in higher grades …. GC seems to sell a lot lower end German coins that I’m not really looking for I’ve bidding on few coins on GC and got them when I wanted … both are good but heritage gets my vote over GC when looking for better higher quality coins

Excellent information. I am slightly confused though. How does GC make their money then if it doesn't charge a sellers fee? Can you elaborate more on that? you said 1K no fee?
@tylonnplatinumthe3rd6593 жыл бұрын
They probably make most of the money from the 12.5 % buyers fee and the little added on fees
@premiumtonedcoins3 жыл бұрын
Great Question! Should have elaborated. They do charge a buyer's premium of 12.5% (or just 10% if you pay with wire or bank ACH). So if you are buying from GC, you pay final Bid + 10-12.5%. As a seller, you receive final bid - 5% (if under $1k) or simply final bid (if over $1k). There are some other small sellers fees, but they tend to be less than $10-15 per coin.

Great post - I've been using Great Collections for my selling and buying for some time now and their pricing and customer service are excellent. One thing about Ebay that has me worried is the large number of counterfeit coins, some of which are even in holders to look like the real deal. With the major auction houses you don't have to worry.

As a value buyer, I would like to see Great Collections surpass Heritage. Lower fees mean more value for everyone. Also, their "Great photos" are now equal or superior to PCGS. Shipping is also much more clear. No sales tax on most transactions. It's a no brainer.

What's the deal with heritage..? I sent them pictures of coins I was wanting to sell because I saw them selling on there for 3 to $5,000.. like 56 57 58 nickels with full steps uncirculated no blemishes no scratches.. they email me back and tell me they are worth face value.. I was like what!... So I get into my better coins and take pictures. Then I'm sitting there thinking about this so with my pictures I stick a couple photos in there that I took from their website that they recently sold for like $6,000. They email me back again telling me they're all worth face value.. I'm like what the f*** are you talking about? You just sold the same coin for 6000$... I get no reply back.
