Thank you for this video. It’s very encouraging. It is so frustrating when you create in your mind a masterpiece and receive so many compliments yet people haggle you so much it is borderline disrespectful and you end up basically giving it away because you need the space. I’ve always looked at ETSY and the price of a similar piece to one I’m selling and I’m floored by the difference in price. I can’t wait for your video on packaging. Good luck to you with your business.

I sold my first piece on Etsy. It was somewhat discouraging. I had a dresser that was my first piece I re-did. The dresser was $10, the paint and supplies was probably $50 or so. I sold it for $950. Which seems like a great profit margin. However, the lady who bought it lives in California. So after paying Etsy and the shipping - I will walk away with less than $100. I am chalking it up to a learning experience and I didn't LOSE.

Great information! My wife and I live in Southeast Missouri and have been thinking about starting an Etsy shop for extra exposure. I really enjoy building furniture and was wondering about the shipping side of things when it came to larger pieces. Facebook’s marketplace is nice, but it’s definitely harder to sell more niche pieces on there.

Etsy takes a 20 percent of the sales. It seems kind of high. I built some kitchen pantries and with all the materials they cost 200 dollars each to build and about 20 hours labor. So coming up with a competitive price is hard because your going to give up a chunk of money for shipping and the cut that Etsy takes.

Once you make a sale on Etsy, and you figure out who you're using with uship, do you pay uship first, out of your pocket? Like, do you need to have those funds set aside and then Etsy pays your once it ships? Or will you just pay Uship fees out of what you made from Etsy? Hope that makes sense?!
@paintwithcasey56443 жыл бұрын
Hi Annalise, very valid question! Etsy pays you right after it is ordered/listing is purchased. New Etsy sellers need to wait about a week to get paid for their first few sales and then you can choose a daily deposit schedule.

What company do you use to ship?
@paintwithcasey56443 жыл бұрын
I use UShip, you can obtain free quotes to estimate how much a piece will cost to ship, and then once you're ready to list an item for shipping, you make the listing and wait for a shipper to make a bid or accept an offer. I always put in a dollar amount rather than waiting for them to make a bid. I've found that you get bids a lot quicker when you do it that way. I also offer slightly higher than the average shipping cost, and will raise the offer once every few days if need be.
