Lovely to see the old tradition of Luck penny still being carried on .......... The buyer cannot determine what the luck penny should be, thats left up to the generosity of the seller . The seller should not give back to the buyer any of the money he has just received from the buyer ,but other different money , and if you can there should be a bit of jingle in it . But look , Robbie knew all this anyway .....,

I bred for and sold tups for years as part of my sheep business, terminal and maternal. Terminal always brought more than maternal. I think a maternal ram is worth more, personally, as he's the cornerstone of a flock. Great video.
@sheepschool3653 ай бұрын
Agree 100% on the ram and without good maternal females in a flock it's a tough road...

Good stuff David , well done .I think a lot of society inspections are a bit tight and ive always found that beltex rams with a patch or 'spec' of brown or black wool to be the best carcase lamb producers , in a sheep world with so many coloured varieties of breeds , its something we should not get hung up on , its the carcase and feet we should put more focus on . I've never ate the hair of a sheep in my life.
@JohntyNich3 ай бұрын
Would that partly be down to the fact that you were able to buy a better ram for the same price? Sensible though 👍
@emmett1739Ай бұрын
@@JohntyNich yes , that's true , perhaps a good ram overlooked as a breeders ram them becoming a real value as a commercial lamb breeder.hey I've bought them all and personally feel you need to no as much about the seller as you do about the sheep, it can be a steep learning curve.

Just been watching Kiwi Farmer here in NZ (YT channel) he has started lambing - outside lambin and the weather is great 0 overnight and around 14 degrees during the day (mid winter here in NZ) - he has had the vet out to mineral check his sheep (and cattle) to see how that is looking - he is mineral checking as his late lambing group was only 133% which is really low for NZ - mineral results due back this week so will be interested to see how that goes - NZ soil is known to be mineral deficient
@sheepschool3653 ай бұрын
Good videos, I watch him from time to time and I'll definitely check that one out! Some of our land can be very low in minerals also..

Well done it’s not easy to bring out a sheep to a sale much less 10 , I have never been to a sale in carrick on Shannon but some very well known breeders were there and they seem to have brought out good stock. Is everyone up your neck of the woods called David? Regards from Wicklow.
