My local card shop is pulling this s**t after I paid them in full for the preorder. They are threatening to up charge or they are cutting plastic. It’s one thing to declare it up front. It is another to have offer and acceptance at the time of the transaction, followed by a breach of said contract. Despicable.

My local card and game store is selling one per person, and for MSRP if you agree to having the shirk wrap removed and packs cut in front of you (or you can open yourself in their game room). If you don't, then $175 per ETB. They admit this is punishing to their sealed collectors, but weighing the pros and cons it's a relatively fair way to keep things civil and encourage opening of the product. My local store is also ran by stand-up guys. For end-of-2024 sale they opened two ES booster boxes and let every customer buy a pack for $3. Support good sellers.

This isn't really a weird thing to do. -If you want it sealed at MSRP, get it later. -They are just copying the Japanese model for handling scalpers, which seems to have worked to a certain extent. -The vast majority of people wanting the set at release want to rip packs (or scalp, I guess). Though, to be fair, limiting the product to 1 per person/group is probably good enough.

They're clipping the corners and taking the Shrink wrap off the product to protect against resellers selling it double and triple the price. Take the shrink wrap off and clip the corners is showing them that you're going to open the product yourself.

It definitely will be crazy in stores, but not nearly as bad as cards during covid. During that time MJ Holdings used to deliver products to store on a more strict schedule. Now they stock whenever for the most part. It'd be even crazier if people knew the stores would have them at open and could line up.

Personally, if I was ripping and they did this in front of me, I would be ok with it, but like you said, if you are a sealed collector, no go. This is the first set where I plan on grabbing a couple things to hold onto sealed, so personally would be a no-go, but I understand the intent.

If you're a sealed collector then you know the item will appreciate in value, you can claim you wont sell it but almost everything has a price. So you either get lucky and find it at MSRP somewhere else or you pay MP. I think their rules are fair so people that want to enjoy their product and open don't get gouged.

They've been doing this for hyped releases for years. They're a reputable store and they are doing it in front of your face when you buy in store. I think it's fine, they just don't want people taking their products and selling them for 3x on the secondary market. They also already sold a lot of their product for MSRP.

I feel like just limiting what in person buyers can get would be a good start. Although i know in pokemon centers in japan they remove the plastic wrap so its not totally crazy. Removing the shrinkwrap is something that Pokemon Centers in Japan did for purchases of Terastal Fest ex boxes (and possibly previous sets, I don't know). They'd do the lottery, have you go in at your specified time, you get your booster box, and they remove the plastic from the box in front of you. And it's all to keep from reselling. Seeing as this post specifies LOCAL release, so in-person sales, I don't think it's a terrible idea if you're looking for PRE at MSRP. It makes total sense, really. 🤷‍♀

Pokémon is going to print this set into the ground over the next year or two. Granted I’m lucky because I got my preorders in when they first went up through PC and GameStop so I’ll have plenty to open release day and some to keep sealed but Pokemon isn’t in the habit of losing out on money to resellers lol. It’ll suck to have to wait out the hype but there will be plenty of this set to go around after it cools down especially when Battle Partners and the Rocket set come out
