A game collector I know sold a lot of his spares through a dedicated facebook group, however Paypal gave up his info to the Aussie tax office and he got a big tax bill as it went over the threshold for hobby/business. He is pretty sore about that!

Beware of CeX when selling. If you are selling a few items they may do a "bulk discount" just because the items are similar format - e.g. 4K or blu ray. I've just been stung on this after having to do a bit of a cull over the last month. They will call you up to say that this is the case but if you've made special trip already it can often be too much hassle to cancel the sale & go back to pick items up. Won't be using CeX again.

Hi Phill, your a better man than I, I’m so lazy I just give spare titles away, I can’t be arsed to deal with buyers online, I’ve done it in the past and they are generally too demanding. Well done in reaching your target sum 👌 hope the new software works out for you, take care mate👍😃👍

I’m not sure why they seem more demanding of an eBay seller than buying from on online store… or maybe it’s just because I don’t see what the online stores face in terms of customer demands and issues. Got a big learning curve with this software and a bunch of time to find to do it. I’m pretty determined at the moment though.

Had a message on Ebay asking if they could pay for something by cheque.. I mainly use Ebay and use the buy now/best offer function rather than auctions. As you state, OOP titles tend to shift more easily. Having been burnt by a buyer, I insist on tracked shipping so I know that the item has been delivered.

Amazing. When did you list it, 1999… cheque 🤷🏼‍♂️😂 I’m with you on the tracked shipping. I’ve been stung with buyers in the past when things haven’t been tracked. I use auction over buy it now a lot as it has a specific end time. Depending on work / kids and whatever else, having that specific end time just helps me balance when I can package and post things so I make sure they’re out in good time.

Cheque is a perfectly good and acceptable form of payment. We receive more cheques at my work than payments by card

I used to trade quite a bit in the early days of DVD, but have no experience as a seller. As a buyer I used to really enjoy and had great experiences on eBay. Most sellers were great and I got some items that I likely would not have found otherwise.

There are some great sellers on eBay. Only a couple of times I’ve had… questions. I’ve had a Blu ray packed in a bin bag with a label on before now 😂 It’s a fantastic place as a buyer, some items are overpriced at times but if I don’t wanna spend that money, I move on. I’ve had many an import movie using eBay sellers. Facebook groups seem to be among the best to buy from now, not marketplace but the actual collector groups. CEX is just a nice quick simple option if I just want to get rid asap, not the best prices but it’s easy peasy

Informative video there Phill! I'm in the same boat as you and have a few titles I am thinking of moving on, i.e American Ninja 2 that CEX are offering £9 cash at present but recently one went on ebay for £25! I haven't sold on ebay for a while and don't use Paypal but I like your theory of using the CEX trade price for ebay listings, you have got my thinking now! Keep up the good work!

One thing I tend to do now, if it’s likely to sell for a reasonable value, I’d charge and send signed for. I’ve come unstuck a couple of times with items apparently not being received and had to issue refunds. EBay no longer use PayPal either. Funds direct to bank now.

Good video , Phill . I do occasionally wonder if the in-store CEX prices are linked to eBay . There appears to be some similarities judging from the eBay sold listings.

Thanks James. I agree, it’s funny how a lot end up around the same sort of prices. It’s a good guide though if you want to get an idea of value. The only thing with CEX, they don’t always list all of the limited editions or collectors editions. Some I struggled to find listed on there (the Knock Off limited edition for example)

I had a clear out last year and sold a lot of my (still sealed) limited edition Arrow blu rays on eBay. I did quite well out of it, but it is a lot of work. I have plenty of standard blu rays that I would like to list, but seeing the generally low prices they sell for makes me think its not worth putting them up

I go through that a lot. No longer want the titles but due to the low value I used to think that I might as well keep hold of them. They did nothing more than clutter up the place with a bunch boxed up and in the attic. Finally started to part with them as it felt more like I was hoarding them than anything else. I didn’t get much back on trade ins but I felt a lot better for actually moving them on eventually.

Good video! I sometimes sell with CEX but usually find I get more money by selling on eBay. If it’s rare and limited edition it’s better to use eBay unless you really want a quick sale. eBay requires a bit more patience

It does indeed. I have a few items that are doing the merry go round of being relisted on eBay. I’ve got a bunch ready for CEX just because they’re standard editions and I really don’t think they’d sell for much on eBay.

Maybe you're new but combining shipping.It's pretty much a standard practice.And if I want my stuff in a box and you put it in a bubble mailer i'm gonna return it ps you can not assume the person that you're buying it from is a collector I always ask to package it right

That’s something that annoys me with amazon to be fair. The variation on their packaging is amazing. I’ve received a fair number of items that should have been packaged in a lot more than a bubble mailer. Combined shipping is something I haven’t really used before, I’m not a regular seller so not really set up for something ‘out of the ordinary’ - this one worked out ok because I did have a decent box.

I’m not sure you’ll see it on all videos but want to tell some stories which might involve a lot more work with camera placement / b roll and things like that. Also want to be able to learn how to place music better. Wanted to do some deep dives into actors / directors or particular movies… all big plans, just need big skills for some of them. It might take a while 😂

I wouldnt use solely CEX alone as a price guide, id use eBay sold prices, HMV, Zavvi, Rarewaves etc. Its obviously safe to say as well that nobody unless they are a stupid will pay more for a 2nd hand item then a brand new one with a return policy. CEX i tend to find are on the pricier side for their 4K UHD's but they are doing a good deal on Nightbreed Arrow Boxset for £20 ATM.

Yeah, when shopping in CEX I find their prices for the UHDs AND some boutique labels particularly high. I did use the eBay sold prices to try and gauge the pricing for the imports that I listed. Bidding on eBay does seem to go a little wild every now and again. Not for everything but the odd one.

Well congratulations 🎊🎉🍾🎈,look like you have reached your goals for raising enough money to get whatever computer equipment you want to get.Look like your movie Bluray box sets are a guaranteed seller and your regular movie Blu-ray’s are not the best sellers (that depend if your regular movie Blu-ray’s are the out of print kind). I tell you, trying to sell movies on eBay or other websites is like trying to pull teeth 🦷 but in the end it was a success for you 😊👍

Thanks Anthony, the goal was smashed. I now have the editing software, the only thing I didn’t account for was where to pull the time I need to start learning how to use it 😅 Hoping it doesn’t slow me down too much putting out the videos. Yes, standard edition movies. If they’re not out of print then I think it’ll be a quick trade in at CEX. Anything limited or box set wise, I’ll take the chances on eBay just to squeeze a little more out of it. I think if it isn’t going to sell for over £10 on eBay then it’s just not worth the time it takes to sort them out.

It would be interesting to hear your views on collecting dead formats. Some VHS, laserdisc and HD DVDs seem to fetch silly prices on eBay. I recently sold off my laserdisc collection. I had over 300 discs, but whittled it down to around 50. I started buying them in 2016 as I liked the vinyl sized sleeves. Also it was a cheap way (back then as I was getting discs for 99p) to watch some films uncut and with 5.1 sound. Now they seem to sell for quite a bit. Depending upon the release you have. VHS is another one. Seems people pay silly amounts for a pan and scan low quality transfer of a film….. when the blu ray or 4K is available and much cheaper. 😅

I tend to move on from format to format. My VHS have long since gone. I won’t actively collect them because of the lower quality and also how much space they take. Laserdisc… I’ve still have some of my old discs, finding it difficult to part with them because I love the cover art and presentation of them. A few year ago I did pick up some with the intention of displaying as wall art. Since, I have removed a good number from the collection but still have about 30 I don’t want to part with yet. They may still be used for wall art in the future. Neither I will actively collect for now as I have no way to play them… there are so many options now for viewing better quality versions. HD DVDs I parted with after the war with Blu Ray was over…. DVD, I’ll still pick up from time to time but that’s if it’s something I want to watch and there’s a lack of other options (I’m looking for Hard Boiled and The Killer DVDs at the moment because I want to rewatch some John Woo) I don’t see anything wrong with collecting dead formats as long as the person enjoys it and does it for good reasons. Personally, having collections of the old stuff just takes up so much space to have a nice display or set up for all the stuff

Don't forget eBay take at least 10% sometimes like 15%. And then you have to post. Sometimes cex is the better option

It would have been the better option for Castle Freak for sure. I think if the item ain’t gonna sell for around £15 or more… CEX is the better option. It’s just time consuming between listing and packing if you’re doing a load all together

DO you not think you should use a mic, How do you know the price the p/o will charge you/ your seller if you have not checked, also Music Magpie may take your unwanted movies.

I do use a mic, perhaps should work on where I place it ?! The post office price increases with size and weight. So a single movie will generally go through as large letter, and hence it’ll move up to small parcel and depend on weight category. Music magpie take all sorts, works out slightly more favourable with CEX of taking the voucher option usually

That’s the limited edition with slipcover. The standard edition is easily available around £15. Surprised me that the limited edition when for way more than the standard price.
