Quartering comes naturally as that is what a Spaniel does when beating to put up the game for the gun, but transferring her innate skill to sheep is something else. As for swimming in the duck pond to round up the ducks at bedtime without trying to grab one. Incredible.

Great video as always. It's always fascinating to see you pull a lamb out. I learned something about getting a sheep to adopt another lamb today, and also about sheep with a strong maternal drive (good) stealing lambs from other sheep (bad). I always learn something new from you. All the best for the rest of your lambing.

Your sheep seem to be in better health than the other video that I am subscribed to. Not sure where you are. First time watching. You seem to have it together a lot better than the other one has.He doesn't have any help really except for his dad of whom in my feelings is usless and tears up more than helps. they always seem frantic with what ever they do. never bite off more than you can chew. I think they have.

We went to auction yesterday with the last of last years and some culls that should have gone before the flooding last year. We got a better price than expected.

Soay sheep are probably the closest sheep to the original domesticated sheep. If you ever get the chance take a trip to the western Isles Scotland and get a day boat trip out to St kilda where the soay sheep in UK herds originally came from, and you will see how barren the land they live on is. It's almost like they are closer to goats than modern day sheep breeds

Great videos! I appreciate you making them. Question. Breed preference? Is there a breed you eventually move towards? I’ve seen on other farming channels in the UK that farm scotch mules. Thoughts on them?

Why do you run a Romney ram If the Lambs Are not great from them
@anna996292 ай бұрын
Chris, you may want to blur out the little lambs when you pull them as youtube demonitizes other sheep channels if they show too much birthing. I know it's ridiculous. Just want u to get paid. Like your channel.

Do you have to tell them there are ewes have been exposed to a ram?
@corabrooks43372 ай бұрын
what a bloody ridicules comment life is life and if your kids are young would not understand his comment. Strange you have a gripe with chris saying the sheep had been to the ram, yet allow your little darling look at bloody ended sheep makes no sense.
@akantiia2 ай бұрын
I don't see why he shouldn't say it
@vwvw42 ай бұрын
@@corabrooks4337 I realize you're an idiot, so really not worth my time, but let me clarify. Kris is selling ewes at market to be grown out by a buyer for butcher. I'm curious if the ewes were exposed to a ram; if you have to disclose that. Because someone feeding out ewe lambs doesn't want them in lamb, as they'd be butchered with partially grown lambs or depending on when they were tupped could lamb out before they are ready for butcher, which growers don't want to deal with. And having worked in a butchers, I can tell you from experience, cleaning a butchered ewe and finding fully formed lambs is not a joyful experience.
@vwvw42 ай бұрын
@@corabrooks4337 Kris's commercial sheep are purchased by someone who grows them out for butcher. Growing ewes in lamb is counterproductive, not only for the buyer, but for whomever then butchers them. There's no joy butchering ewes in lamb and having lamb fetuses on the kill floor. So this is why I posed the question, if at auction one must disclose if ewes were exposed to a ram.
