I live in Victoria on Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada. We have hiking/biking trail called The Galloping Goose Trail which is now part of the Trans-Canada Trail. It was named after a self propelled rail car, probably similar to the one you were looking at. The trail is on the right-of-way for a former CNR track that ran part way up the island. However, it was a regular gauge railroad not narrow gauge. Evidently, those cars got their name from being rather bouncy to ride in. Sadly, we no longer have any rail on the island except for a steam engine that runs in a forest museum just over an hour north of here.

I feel your pain. I special order a new 1974 F-100 4x4 in December of 73, 6 months after I graduated from high school, it arrived in July of 74. I sold it in July of 2004. It had over 200,000 miles, was on its 4th engine a 428 that had been punched out .30 and had all the performance parts on it. It had made two trips to Alaska and had been to Baja. When I sold it it was looking a lot like a “Rez” truck.

There were only 7 original galloping geese made. #1 doesn't remain, #3 is used by knotts berry farm as a maintenance vehicle. #'s 2, 6 & 7 are in the Colorado train museum. #4 is in Telluride & #5 was bought by the city of Dolores, Colorado & is still operated from time to time on various railroads & at the Colorado train museum.

I remember seeing that down in Durango few years ago. My uncle had one that used to run through his front yard on the Penrose cripple creek railroad. He bought his property in the early 80s we could never figure out why there was an indentation going across this property which later we found out was the old railroad bed for the Penrose cripple Creek Road and then we seen pictures of the galloping goose traveling those tracks that was some pretty interesting history just to have in your front yard

I'm in Alaska now, but I used to live just a quarter of a mile from the Galloping Goose, there in Cortez, I believe that engine came from Dove Creek, Co. going towards Utah. There is another one North East of Cortez at Delores, Co . on the way to Telluride. We couldn't understand the final bid on your truck, what a beautiful ride, whoever bought it will shure enjoy it for a long time.
@chadsfab Жыл бұрын
I also think this goose sat in Dove Creek for years, I was sad when it disappeared until I saw it again in Cortez a few years later. I don't know if I've seen the one outside of Telluride, I think there is still one in Telluride and there is an old one in Silverton that is from the '20s that's caddy powered. The truck went for 100k.

Chad I’m definitely not a big fan of red but when they did a two done color back in the day definitely helped out I think!!! I definitely love the Color of that one for sure but my favorite color was the two done blue and white!!! I absolutely love that color!! My truck I had thought that some one had painted it a color that I had never seen before but after looking at the tag on the truck it was actually the real color!! I’m not sure how to describe it but I’d say it’s maybe a color in between a blue and a turquoise!! I have herd that there was a lighter color and a darker color!! I was actually going to do it in a two tone color on my 1972 but I believe that I will paint it back original because I have not ever seen one before in this color other then one in Florida and it is on a 1972 Chevy blazer!! It’s definitely a beautiful color!! He actually has a YouTub channel also!! You should check out the couple trucks that he has done!! They are definitely awesome!!! I can’t think of the name of his channel but I will look and see!!!
@chadsfab2 жыл бұрын
I debated a long time on color on this truck. It was between red/white and dark blue/white. Color you're describing sounds like the 518 medium green. If it's a metallic then it's 529 medium blue-green poly. Send me link if you can find it, I would like to see what he's building.

In 1969-‘71 I was stationed in Germany serving in the US Army, I was assigned to the Army hospital in Nuremberg that had small clinics and dispensaries serving small post in the area. I was attached as a medic to the dispensary at Grafenwohr which was a NATO artillery training facility to the east of Nuremberg I would travel on the weekends from Grafenwohr to Nuremberg on the train that on early Saturday mornings would be a single large train car that was diesel powered with a driver that would operate the speed and shift the transmission of the undercarriage mounted drive train. It was very interesting because many of the trains were electric or diesel-electric and it was fun because it was like the driver would see how much of the run he could make while coasting with the engine out of gear. Generally the ride back was during a busier travel hour and on a regular train.

Word was it was to warn if you were going to hit the differential on something, but really it was just cool. I'm curious as to why going to Barrett Jackson? Were you contacted by them? Curious to know how that whole process went down.

After seeing what the truck could bring I reached out to them. I knew I wouldn't get this much selling it normally and B-J seems to bring considerably more than Mecham on this body style.

We saw the bid on the truck at $85,000, but I didn't hear any mention of what the truck finally sold for. Didn't hear what you bought that 57 Chevy for either. We want to know stuff like that.

It is hard to tell, it went for 100k. The 57 was 61k.

All I heard from the auctioneer was 15. What does that mean? What did the truck sell for?
@chadsfab2 жыл бұрын
The truck sold for 100k.

I grew up in a car family and we used to go to specialty automotive auctions and buy for customers. I got to buy a 1994 Porsche 928s4 and a Ferrari 308. My father couldn’t get to the auction. It’s such a rush seeing your vehicle bringing that kind of money.

Oh chad I forgot to ask since I couldn’t really hear at the auction!! But what did the truck sell for and was you happy with what it brought??? I’d definitely like to no so I have an idea what they might be sold for??? Thanks for responding back to me in advance!!! Remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!!

the truck sold for 100k which was right where my goal was and really what the truck was worth. The auction in Scottsdale probably would have brought me another 30-40% but it was time for the truck to go. Thanks for watching!
