Miyamoto Musashi (arguably the best swordsmen who ever lived) fought his final duel with a wooden sword he carved out of a boat oar. He won and lived another 33 years. Eccentricity is in and of itself a weapon.
@danielmiller5611
@danielmiller5611 9 ай бұрын
Technically not eccentric the reasoning why he did that. He was going to duel Sasaki Kojiro who was notorious for having used a longer katana (nodachi) than most due to his height. In fact his sword's name was the "Drying Pole" a reference to it's unorthodox length. Musashi knew this so he created that sword so he wouldn't have a length disadvantage. This of course spurred on the legend of his creation of the duel wielding fighting style as I believe there is some speculation that he may have been holding a wakizashi in his offhand while using this makeshift weapon. He sailed his own boat to meet Kojiro on a remote island to duel him, spending his time on the way there making that sword. This is the reason why some argue he was late for the duel which inevitably gave him an advantage due to unnerving Kojiro. Others ascertain that he planned it that way for that exact effect. No one really knows. While at a glance what Musashi did seems eccentric, I would contest that it was just calculated. He was highly fearful of Kojiro as Kojiro was an incredibly skilled opponent. Anything to gain the advantage.

The thing about that is an author wrote it and not an actual swordsman. An amateur boxer will lose 100/100 times to someone like Mayweather in a boxing match, no fear at all.
@kylehenline3245
@kylehenline3245 Жыл бұрын
@@atrumpetwillsound Swords aren't boxing lol. Even Mayweather could be charged and hit by an amateur, when they have a blade even one hit can be fatal or permanently disabling. Plus people don't necessarily stop trying to kill you once you have stabbed them, One of the biggest complaints of medieval fencing academies was amateur mutually skewering each other and them both dying. Many a great swordsman and knife fighter has died to the defensive flailing of an opponent they mortally wounded.

Yeah I was thinking that exact same thing. But let's be honest..we have all met people who will say something like that after getting beaten. I remember being at a martial arts seminar years ago (I have a background in Judo and Eskrima-Kali, and some Muay Thai) and I was sparring with a guy who was an instructor at his school, and I was really kind of manhandling him every time he would close with me. He was actually really good, and he demonstrated that by immediately disarming me the first 10 or 12 seconds of the round. He just didn't have the grappling experience I had, and he was alot smaller than me too, and after that first disarm I just turned it into a wrestling match any time he got close enough to grab. I landed one throw or trip after another on him, and once he was on his back, it was real easy to force him to yield. Then after the round was over, he tries to explain to how my takedowns "really aren't that effective" and that they wouldn't work that way in a "real fight". He just ended up looking like a jackass to everyone who was standing around watching us. It was obvious that his ego was absolutely crushed, and he was saying whatever he could to make himself feel better, when he could have just been humble about it and I would have happily showed him how to defend against some of the takedowns I was landing on him.

@@sharkplay1261 why not come learn HEMA swordfighting instead? I was fortunate to have a fencing club with a few left handed, and several ambidextrous, people in it. So they had practice teaching and training sinister fighting Lefties were always a pain to fight when you used to right-handed opponents, but that sentiment was shared by the all left-handed fencers too!😅
