Depends on the state. Some sensible state laws don't require an intruder in your home even be armed before you can use weapons and lethal self defense. Other states (cough NY) have DAs that will charge you even if the person you kill is wildly screaming, bluff charging, and threatening to kill everyone in a subway cab, that you can't escape, even if the defender or victim is unarmed.

All those blades seem cool until they get stuck in something and you're trying to pull it out while something else attacks you. Tell me you've never actually used a bladed weapon on a living thing without telling me you've never used a bladed weapon on a living thing.

Counterpoint: the rules doesn't specifically say this is viable. But I'd say it's a good point to discuss with the DM prior to the game.

You guys make great points. It's also been heavily theorized based on statements from Kenpachi and the ability that Yachiru(the personified of Kenpachi's sword)'s own Zanpakuto had that Kenpachi's Zanpakuto ability is cutting through anything. He did cut space when he fought Gremmy after all. Makes sense that a man who can cut anything wouldn't care about practicality

I'd probably rule it as either an improvised weapon, reduce the damage die, and/or give an action cost to flip the sword around to prevent actual purpose-built bludgeoning weapons from being useless

Personally, I believe it's a combination of the first 2. Like it's got mass, but not as much as a real blade, and it does have wind resistance, but not so much that you can't slash. Half of this and that makes for a balanced interpretation that fits original and prequel fights.

You think this would stop me? This just goes on the training system (likely a low cost training) Meaning if your trained to use it effectively, you can, but otherwise it's an improvised weapon, which is exactly what it is in effect

When i first saw those blades i was so disappointing they didnt break off into a new sharp edge like box cutter razors do, it makes sense but thats what theyre designed after and its kinda lame they didnt lean into that more

I have a criticism on that, is a great technique to solve a unexpected situation, (armoured opponent, undeads etc.,) But if you look at how slim a tang is, it's clear that after a consistent pounding it wil bend or worse snap, leaving you with no pommel, handle and guard... Good luck

I always thought the AoT swords were slightly thicker than normal, thus making the scored points still relatively strong, though still technically technically a weak point.

I've heard Reverse grip is a gateway drug. It wont be long before you will be claiming to be an expert in swordsmanship and claiming Katanas can cut though gun barrels with ease.
