Ok whilst pausing the video at 1:51, it was clear to me that the Supreme was behind Sax A as you could clearly see the neck and how shiny and new it was. It was from this point on that I could clearly hear that Sax B was unmatched in sound quality and character! 😂

Supreme sounds better. I prefer the slightly brighter tone.

Both sound fantastic-in the end I guessed right but then there were occasional small glimpses of a shiny instrument on the left which may have influenced my thinking.😀

I guessed correctly as Sax A was very slightly brighter, however the amount of compression added when you upload to KZbin means a live blind test might make it easier to hear the difference and both saxes would have harmonics that you won't be able to hear over KZbin, a bit of fun though and thanks for taking the time to do it.

Both sounded great. I veer towards the slightly brighter Supreme - just gave the notes that extra little something that is impossible to put into words

Hi I've had a couple of listens through now on different speakers and headphones. From my perspective the Supreme wins this. To me, what we have here isn't just that the Mark VI was darker and the Supreme was brighter. I think that the Mark VI was rather stuffy and the Supreme had clarity.

I was very surprised at results as normally I have a hard time telling the difference in most comparison videos. This time hands down I consistently picked your Mk6. Not sure why, but there it is. Thanks for the video

Does the KB neck on your MKVI play a factor? I could tell straight away because of the neck

I will guess, not having looked at other peoples' responses or the last 3 minutes of the video, that sax A is the Supreme, and sax B is the Mark VI. I got it right. I liked the tone of the Mark VI slightly better. But what you really demonstrated is that the player makes the sound as much as the horn does. You sounded great on both tenors. I really liked your choice of jazz standards for this demonstration.

I got it correct. The dead giveaway is the Supreme is a little brighter and the Mark VI is a little darker and has more harmonics. Personally I prefer the Mark VI sound, but both sounds amazing!

I think that it is hard not to consider that you are used to the vi and probably angle your head to its neck in a way that helps give you the sound you want. Having said that , I think that in this particular sound test, I slightly favor the Supreme because it seems to have more projection. But both have superb sound quality.

Both sounds great and close one to one. Don’t ditch your Mark VI, keep it, that’s what I have done; I bought an alto Supreme and I keep my Mark VI. Sentimentally I’m attached to both saxophones.

I guess B = Mark VI? I liked it more than A. But not because it is a Mark VI, rather because the sound fits better to the style of music that you play.

My guess: A= Supreme B= Mark VI. My reasoning was that A was a bit brighter, that's why I thought it was the Supreme.

I loved B (the Mark VI) more with its dark huskiness, which to me oozes subtones and jazz. I have never bought into the whole Mark VI craze that much but you proved its superiority in this video. Do you think the darkness also might have to do with the fact that the Mark VI doesn't have lacquer and maybe the lacquer on the Supreme makes it brighter? I know my unlacquered saxes sound darker to me than my lacquered ones. Also, which KB neck do you have for your tenor?

both saxophones sound fantastic in their own way- the VI has been the standard for decades but the new Supreme is outstanding- at the end of the day it all depends on how you use these horns,ex: if you do commercial gigs like weddings, pop gigs, smooth jazz etc you want a horn that can be mechanically perfect so the Supreme wins, if you are more of a hard core jazz player maybe the VI is the answer, at the end of the day go with makes you feel comfortable the most, both horns are great, can`t go wrong with either.

Very little in it as demonstrated when played in unison but Mvi was a tad more smokey than the Supreme. It would have been interesting if a Series ii or iii was thrown in just for comparison. I guess there would still be very little in between the three as the main factor in sound is of course the player.

Of course you’re not going to stop playing your Mk VI. And why would you pay £10k for a sax when you already have a beautiful sax that you’re happy with. I wouldn’t. I picked the wrong one BTW.

So interesting to hear a blind test like this. I ended up liking sax B slightly better - more overtones and richness, a certain character that's hard to describe. Not surprised it was the Mark VI. I've got a Mark VI bari that I love. But the Supreme sounds wonderful, and might be a better choice for someone who doesn't want to sift through dozens, even hundreds of VI's until they find "The One".

The VI was pretty obvious to me out of the gate, although the supreme has come closer than any other Selmer to capturing the mark VI sound. Most modern horns in my experience (notably the Yamaha 82Z, being embraced by many jazz players in the states) lack the plethora of harmonics that a VI brings to the table. And in my opinion that includes the Supreme. Close, but no cigar.

Your notion of the Supreme for classical...I totally get it. If things were the reverse, ie the Supreme had that darker, more jazz sound, I'd be thinking about selling my old six. I think a new neck would be a better investment in my case. Enjoyed the vid. 👍🏽

Both sound great. listening through monitor speakers, I actually preferred your Mark VI jus a bit more. The Supreme has that core Selmer sound but with a modern brightness to it and while I like it, I just preferred the darker tone of the Mark VI, which is odd for me as I sometimes can find a Mark VI a little stuffy sounding. Maybe I am just used to hearing how you sound on yours. Next time on a blind test, hide the top of the neck. While I wasn't looking the first time I listened to the blind test, the second time I looked and could see which was which from the neck showing slightly above the blacked out part.

Easy to tell which was which after the first few notes. I recognise your warm, dark ‘signature’ sound on the Mk6: it’s a sound I love and would absolutely associate with you. To my ear the Supreme was too bright and buzzy: I know it’s a modern sax but it has a very modern sound that didn’t fit the material you played as well. Just my opinion - I see from other comments that there are plenty who disagree!

They were so close it was difficult to pick up on which one was the Supreme. I think Selmer created a real winner here however very expensive. ( worth the money? ) that's up to you.

It's too late but it's obvious that Sax A sounds buzzy and high notes are thin (it's almost like someone cranked up the treble and brought down the mids). Sax B sounds well round and more classic sounding. I don't think it is possible to replicate a 70 year old saxophone. Imperfections as long as not too much plays a role in making a nice tone with organic complexities even with not having 100 percent pads sealing, tone holes are not being perfectly in the right place, etc. One thing that is not visible or audible is the ergonomics and ease of maneuvering, ease of subtones, healthy and relatively uniformly progressing resistance, ease of creating nice sounding overtones, etc. In order to answer those, you have to try the sax for a few months perhaps to find its best performance sonically and in other ways.

The Supreme makes the VI sound almost stuffy that being said I think the tone was so close the Supreme would definitely be my choice since both are 10k in the same condition.
