As someone Dutch me and my brother were looking at each other like “no there is no way it isn’t qualifying, juries probably love it and the whole audience was singing along” they were killing us!! My mom even got up cause she was so nervous

The moment Moldova's folk kicked in it was like...yup that's going through! I felt for Latvia too, but it didn't really make the song any better just because they are nice guys. Viewers don't know them. My pals I was watching it with for the first time hated it. I think the star of last night was actually Lithuania. Such class and exquisitely performed and the stage lights were gorge!...despite her awful running order! So you can't really blame position for either Latvia or Albania considering that both Lithuania AND Switzerland went through. Anyway..we come for the scoring! and the drama! and you delivered hahah

yea true, although LIT and SWI were jury friendly, which are notorious for "considering" more then earlier songs. If you need teelvote and youre early, youre fucked

I am soooo happy for Switzerland. Marius is my no.2 this year ( behind Italy), i absolutely love the song, the voice, the performance. All the best for the final ! And very happy about Moldova, Netherlands and Ukraine.

As sad as I am for Latvia this is the adrenaline I get from Eurovision that makes me love it. (its how I get my theatre friends to understand the hype behind sport) its the tension, the stakes, the upsets, the excitment over a surprise qualifier and the sadness of a fave not making it.

I didn't rate Moldova before but they came alive on stage. You could hear the audience reacting positively to them. They deserve their spot. There is room for all kinds in the Esc final

I'm thrilled that my top 2 of the entire contest made it (Lithuania and Portugal) but my heart breaks for Latvia. I've been defending them since the beginning of the season and they gave the performance that made me smile the most :( I really thought they'd be the ones to bring Latvia back to the GF

The moment they announced Switzerland I had a feeling Latvia wouldn't make it, but I still cried when they NQd and I never cry. There's a video on Twitter where Monika goes to comfort Citi Zēni immediately after they NQd and my heart broke for them, seeing them so sad for the very first time made my pain even worse. They were devastated and their keyboardist was actually crying, they did not deserve this. Every time they cut to them in the green room you could see their hope vanishing more and more. I'm still heartbroken, but I try to cheer myself up because at least Iceland and Portugal made it.

@@ESCTom I did have Latvia as non qualifiers in my top 10 prediction because I felt that the song was in the number 2 death spot and also just thought it was loaded with cheap gimmicks and too repetitive in the second half of it. But so many British people online kept seeming confident it was going through so I was starting to question if I’d got it wrong about them, but my gut was telling me they were out. I was right about Switzerland I was always expecting them to go through cos it seems like a jury baby and it does give me goosebumps. The two I was wrong about were Moldova and Iceland. I hadn’t expected them to qualify. But I did make my top 10 prediction 6 weeks ago and was only judging on the music videos available at the time.

Watching this is watching me alone in the US watching live, so confused after reading the beginning, but devastated for Latvia 🇱🇻 and not recovering. And it started airing at 3:00pm where I am, so I have been dwelling on it and and rewatching. I don’t cry either and I just cried.

I was only able to fall asleep by watch a long tv interview in Latvia of them before they left. It was in Latvian, so it was soothing and I could pretend they hadn’t performed yet.

i think that the voters got it right. The live performance can make the difference. It is a song contest and if the vocals are not great live then you are out, even if you are on a save place in the odds .

@@ESCTom It really made me laugh. The results were a shock. I really wanted Iceland to qualify and they did. Lithuania was class too and deserved to go through. I felt sorry for Latvia as they deserved a final place. Myself and my bf loved the Albanian song, but after the performance we both looked at each other and said NQ. A pity but as you said, the performance and visuals in the final and video were so much stronger and the Semi performance under-delivered in every way. It was a mess on Tuesday night and a real missed opportunity. I do feel now that Ireland have a real chance of qualifying.

Switzerland is a song I only started appreciating when I listened to it on headphones. Some other songs (not from this semi) that I loved did not stand up in the same way. They needed a visual performance to go along with them. He is a bit of a safe, inoffensive choice next to Albania and Latvia. Latvia’s camera was never quite in the right place. It wasn’t showing the kick with the saxophone 🎷 correctly - it was set too low below the stage to see - and the choreography that makes the song so much fun couldn’t be seen because there were so many tight shots instead of being pulled back like before. Trying to hide the dead sun? I don’t know. For the record, pretty much all I cared about was Latvia getting through. They have been the spirit of Eurovision and so wonderful. I really wanted to see the performance with the little fixes and have more people see them. They are really wonderful.

Seeing Citi Zeni being upset breaks my heart all over again! They so deserved to go through... I'm very upset my Slovenian Disco babies didn't make it as well... Happy for Moldova and Lithuania though (not mentioning Norway cause it was obvious they'd make it! They're perfect! =P)

I don’t get the love for latvia that so many express in the comments. My mother had Latvia on her 40th place weeks ago and she got 9 out of her 10 predictions correct for qualifiers. She must be able to read the show very well. I know people that have studied Eurovision for years that got even as low as 6 out of 10 right. I got 8 out of 10 right so I don’t quite have my mothers musical insight. I wasn’t sad for Latvia he can recover using his bowls of salad but was sad for Ronela. She seems such a lovely woman and deserves to go through but, I did sense it was on its way out because it just seemed a little bit too try hard. I’m gutted for her though. Lovely woman

My reaction was literally the same when Iceland qualified! personally 8 out of my 10 qualifiers made it through, the exceptions being latvia & slovenia (my 3rd & 5th in S1). I also don't mind all the qualifiers except Portugal which isn't my thing.

Haha it's so weird that this becomes such a stressful thing while there are actually not that many surprises. I would have gotten 9/10 of my pre-rehearsal prediction if I hadn't switched from Moldova to Latvia because the response to Latvia was so much better than to Moldova. My only big surprise is that Albania is out and Switzerland is in, but all in all I must say it's deserved. Even though I like Albania's song better, that performance was messy and weirdly raunchy. I'm not a prude, but this was just not working. And she didn't sing well live. Switzerland: even if the song is maybe too snoozy and his hand gestures were a bit strange, he sang well and it's quality. So I can live with this. Even though I had no doubt in my mind that the Netherlands would qualify, it's still nailbiting when you're announced last!

I'm surprised all of you bloggers who had the chance to watch the acts before, still predicted Albania to go through. I like the song, but it wasn't good live, I almost felt uncomfortable watching it, it was messy, aggressive, manic, unhinged, the camera angles were wrong, her outfit didn't flattered her. Just a missed opportunity.
