Kai has to do with a lot of experience in fiba kind tournament, he has to work on his body and strenght so that if he got injured like this he can be more durable and tough in a physical game like this. 100% agree... the defensive adjustment made by brazil in 2nd half was not able to counter by the gilas coaching staff, total scoring for 3rd 24-6 in favor of brazil.. if gilas only maintained their good game from 1st half into the 2nd half particularly 3rd qtr, gilas might won the game,... because in the 4th qtr total scoring is 21-20 in favor of gilas, 😎

Brazil started 3Q with small ball. It means speed. Gilas fielded two slow bigs and did not to adjust early and Fajardo stayed the whole 3Q. Mason Amos is the right big man in this game who can shoot 3. Another thing is Gilas still used triangle and individual play while Brazil, Georgia, Latvia as well as Poland all employed ball screening.

We don't have the right players to play small ball. Tamayo, Quiambao and Amos are still way too raw for this level and Oftana is mid af, we're gonna have very bad matchups against latam teams as long as we don't have quick, switchable forwards that also contributes consistently on offense. That's the biggest hole in current Philippines basketball, it can't develop player types like Rui Hachimura and Gabriel Deck, it could've been Kobe Paras and Francis Lopez but Paras is a bust and Lopez isn't developing quick enough.

With Sotto in every game, Gilas could have won every game. Gilas just needs a good coach like Cone and another excellent point guard to backup or play with Ramos. The near win against Georgia and the good game against Brazil , in both games with Sotto playing less than a total of 10 minutes, opened my eyes. Gilas will place top 10 in the next Fiba and probably in the bext Olympics. Sotto, Ramos, Edu, Tamayo and a few more will be older and more experienced. Gilas has yet to find a guard who can do pick and rolls and lobs with Sotto. Sotto's height is still not fully exploited. Unfortunately, Fajardo will be too old in the next Olympics but will still be useful in the next Fiba in 2 years. A good big point guard and a well- developed Sotto in 2 years will be spectacular. My hopes are high!

RHENZ ABANDO could have made a difference here with his explosive plays offensively and defensively. Just wondering why he is not utilized here in OQT 2024??? He can chase and defend the high-post pick and roll of Brazil and can help in Post-up threats. Instead, they pick AMOS but even he was not given the chance to play. This is the true “learning experience” for Gilas. They see their shortcomings and can only get better as their familiarity with their system improves, so will their turnover rate drop. Missing players and players that still has to fully show up (Kevin, Carl and Calvin) appears to be the possible candidates to have alternates. A dedicated point guard who can also defend is needed (Sorry young Abbarientos, your D is still suspect). The possible candidate (Kieffer) has a stigma of being unpopular for Gilas. Maybe they should get at least one of the point guards from the U-19 who player with Kai and AJ….

Nice insights, i agree with the missing players, kevin, carl and oftana, but oftana is approaching his peak, age wise, he should be one of the leaders, his defence is decent. But his offence and ball handling is still lacking when needed the most especially on a world stage level. Kq and carl still have time to develop. RJ, as sensational as he is, he's not the right fit for what team cone is trying to achieve in the process.

Then there's this infuriating style of the PBA of not sacrificing league schedule for country that these guys only practiced for 10 days, this is only the second time they've played together since the rebuild after the world cup. So factoring that, yes. It's still a great run, regardless of what pieces we lacked coming in. The lack of size was very obvious during this game, the guys couldn't execute their plays well
