When I worked as a chemist, I got my hands on some duterated styrene for use as an internal standard. It worked beautifully and I loved how the styrene peak in my GCMS analysis came out slightly earlier than the duterated styrene.

What i love about helium 8 is that it has a halflife of over 0.1 seconds, which is absolutely wild for being that light of an element and being that neutron rich.

Most of the melting, boiling, and 3x point work for T2 is done in the laser driven ICF world, where we fill tiny 1mm hollow plastic or glass capsules with the high pressure gas, freeze it, then usually allow the extreme beta flux inside to slightly heat and naturally redistribute the ice into a uniform thin shell inside the inner walls of the capsule so it will be highly symmetric and uniform on implosion.

Making LiD is how I found out my glovebox wasn't as sealed as I thought it was.

did you succeed eventually?

@@yaykruser Oh I made 100g of the stuff. It just powders easily and escapes the glovebox that I am no longer using. Breathing in the LiD powder makes you cough like campfire smoke.

@@Dmayrion2 100Grams?! Where did you get so much Deuterium from?

The >1939 Uranium club in former 3rd Reich Germany sourced their heavy water in Norway, finally 1.5 metric tons, used in the reactor Haigerloch. The natural uranium reactor never went critical.

Great as usual! D20 and HDO have been separated by electrolysis since the Second World War, but couldn't you do it with freezing or centrifuging?
@SimonsNuclearchemistryАй бұрын
Most likely. One Methode might be more practical. Either because it yields higher puritys or its easier to upscale🤷♂️

Didnt you want to open one of those tritium keychain things and measure it ?🤔
