I´ve been posting my art on Instagram since the beginning of this year and I can definitley understand being scared of sharing things you create online, it took me quite a while to work up the courage. That being said though I´ve not had a single bad comment on my art and I´m definitley not a very talented artist. I only have experience from tumblr and Instagram but I can honestly say that the art communities there have been great so far. I think we all have some nervousness and so even though we´re all at different levels with our art I think people are pretty positive and understanding so I would recommend it even if you don´t feel very confident about your art. Minnie, I hope you have a nice relaxed day, not only doing inktober but posting videos every days must be quite tiring, this video was wonderful, one of my favourites from the month :)

I do a daily sketchbook and so post everyday on my Instagram and I post it whether I hate it or absolutely adore it and that had helped me grow more confident and I have seen so much progress in my art and my style has developed. I started the account because I suddenly realised that I never drew, even though it was something I was so fond of, but I found myself having no motivation to do anything, once I started the sketchbook everyday I would feel a sense of accomplishment even if I was disappointed with the outcome because I had sat down and tried my hardest and so sharing it online has helped me and though I only have 133 followers I'm glad I do it and I will continue to do it for as long as I can. Loved the video as always xxx

Love what you said about "if you don't share it, you'll never know" 🖤 so true. It's really hard to put yourself out there, but if you don't try you will never know. Love the artwork and totally understand needing a rest, to be your best art self, sometimes you need to hide away for a short bit and just let the art take center stage

I love your comment about your confidence growing with your audience. I have definitely felt that with my youtube channel especially. I'm really enjoying your series and don't worry about having an insightful voiceover every time you upload. I'm doing daily vlogging this month and have been getting so tired with the editing process every single day that I can completely empathize with you

This inktober made me share my first art. I think it's ideal as inktober is meant to be about consistency and about exploring things you would not normally do. The latter makes it more relax as I could always argue that I just tried something new and the former makes sure I try to keep posting every day. I also love that you made it clear that posting every day does not mean drawing what you post on that same day!

I love your inktober theme! It actually inspired me to start drawing more houses and buildings myself. I'm an aspiring architect (currently 17 years old, I'll hopefully be studying architecture in a year), so naturally I find houses and architecture in general quite interesting. I'd been trying to start drawing them for a while, but always feel like I had failed. Your uplifting words and beautiful art in these videos made me more comfortable with trying, making mistakes and growing from them!

honestly, for a video it doesn't have to be on topics about art, it can be you reading poetry, or ranting about some daily life activities, or on subjects you reallly reallly like (like organizing mundane items (?)) like it doesn't have to be super profound or interesting it just has to be from you and really I think thats what we all tune in for

YES!! I was given Art and Fear as a high school graduation present in 2003. It has always been that voice of reason while I work on my own art. It's part of the reason I've been able to balance being a working elementary school art teacher and keeping up my own art practice at home. I've wondered if you'd read that book and I'm so glad someone suggested it to you. Something every artist needs to read!

Yes! I loved this topic today. I had been thinking for a while to create an instagram just for my work and to just go for it but I didn't feel ready and I didn't even really know what I would do. I kept thinking inktober would be a great place to start because I would have to create everyday and then I would have something to share. It was September 30 and I still didn't know what I was going to do. I picked up a cheap sketchbook with brown paper and thought that would be great to use for inktober. I didn't feel ready but I've heard the saying to start before you're ready, and like you said you just have to start, otherwise you might never be ready! The hardest part for me was figuring out what to name my account honestly, because I didn't want to use my name! So I just picked something, didn't really like it, then I thought of something better on the second day so I changed it. Might still change it but it doesn't matter, just as long as I'm actually creating. I had to just get started to discover what direction I want to go in, or maybe rather which directions I don't want to go in! P.S. One book that I recommend and that has been amazing for me for any type of creativity is "Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear" by Elizabeth Gilbert. I've read it twice already and will probably read it many more times!

This is the only inktober series ive continued to watch and root for amongst the list of artists i follow here on youtube. And omg this is just giving me so much inspiration, but i want to ask one thing. Say, you really want to do something, like youre so inspired, so prepared but you just cant start it cause of a lot of priorities (school work, house chores, etc) thus missing the first day, then eventually missing the following days consecutively, until it all piles up and starts to be intimidating and you end up disappointed...what advice could you give? Its a struggle honestly.

For anyone who wants to share their art online: DO IT!!! Remember that all the nerves and negativity is in your head. I first began sharing my artwork almost two years ago spontaneously on instagram because I was incredibly proud of a piece I created and it received so much positive feedback (none of which I was expecting AT ALL). I never even intended to share my artwork consistently because I thought the post was going to be a one time thing but then after all the feedback, I decided I would. If you're scared or nervous, just go for it! I never find complete satisfaction with the artwork I create but it has allowed me to see myself grow artistically and that can really serve as a confidence booster. And regarding negativity, you'll hardly ever get it - if at all. People in the art community are instagram are always so encouraging and inspiring and I'm truly grateful for everything they've given me.

I absolutely love this series... I loved the 30 day one too. I'm happy this is helping you with being motivated, I know that's an issue of mine. Question: I feel like I have so many supplies to make art and I get so excited to get new tools, but it's overwhelming to look at a video of an experienced artist combining so many mediums and when I try I fall short on execution. Any tips on using mixed media on a single piece? Like watercolor, color pencils, gel pens, fine liners, etc?

The only advice I could offer on this topic would be to say this: Don't let other people's reactions, likes, dislikes, aesthetic preferences, etc. limit you, on any level. Not in your personal life and not with your art. Create what you like and what you enjoy. You don't have to make everyone happy or make everyone like you, not to mention that is impossible anyway. Do what makes you happy. Let all the things you cant control go (like whether or not random strangers like your art). And be brave! You have nothing to hide, there is no shame in not being the best at everything. Art is a constant learning process. You will always see room for improvement in your work. That is just part of the journey.

I am very proud that you made it this far.. last year I remember you had started this.. I am too doing inktober and have been very proud of myself of already half way through the month .. I do see myself growing and more confident and going faster too.. I am not proud of all of them but if I compared myself to even a month ago I am way better and less crunchy on my line work.. Thank you for being you.. I discovered you about almost 2 years ago and ever since you really turned the light bulb of art for me and I have been doing art since.. Thank you again! Love you! Oh and that book is awesome.. It's a good way just to approach it with our life too!

Thank you. I really enjoy your Inktober videos. I was so discouraged today and was thinking what would happen if I wouldn't upload a new picture today. I don't know what to draw yet and I'm not very good, but I'm a perfectionist, so even a simple drawing take me a long time to do an even so I'm almost never satisfied. I was always scared to put myself online. Art is something very personal and I'm always somewhere between "all I want is to share my passion with others" and "I can't show it to anyone because I'm scared of their reaction". And of course there is that feeling "I'm not good enough". Well, the truth is, I'm not. But that can change over time. There are only few pieces I'm satisfied with, but I hope it will be better with practice. Well, I have still more than 3 hours of today, so I'm going to draw something for 7th day of Inktober.

Great piece Love it! facts, you gotta start somewhere. It doesn't matter if you're not happy with your skills. You go through a process of learning, and with time, your art will get better. That's why sharing your artwork on social media comes in handy, it motivates you to keep making art and that's how you get better.

My question -- How can you spread your knowledge of art to other topics and genres? (I'm stuck with portraits and I want to learn other things, but I can't seem to do it and feel good about it when I could easily feel comfortable with it) It's more like -- "How can you break away from your comfort zones in art?" Thanks! MuchLove

honestly you will be shite when you start other types of art like when I started drawing dogs or animals or anatomy I was really bad, maybe not as bad as when you first learnt how to draw period, but some of the skills you have will transfer over but you just have to get on with it, practice and draw from different angels, break the shape down and stuff like that I find that if I buy myself a super thin and cheap sketchbook that I don't really care if I ruin I tell myself I'm going to fill that with purely [subject / new genre] and use it as a documentation of my process
@mwcshk113

i feel like your question is more towards the "how can i express various topics and genres through my art" or like "how do people come up with their designs, their concepts, themes and everything". I. FEEL. YAAAAH. Im also stuck in portraiture, and wanting sooo badly to reach out but i just cant figure it out. I envy the creativity and individuality a lot of other artists posses, and thus i lose a lot of confidence through my own art. Its sad and tragic.
@lenefredriksen
@lenefredriksen 7 жыл бұрын
Hm.. Is this a question of "what you want to express if you draw/paint something else?" Lets say you wanted to do a landscape, but you dont know why you want to? Is that the question to answer? I am asking because I feel the same about portraits.. I do a lot of landscape and know exactly why I love it. I find myself wishing I could do portraits, not the technical issue, but not knowing what I would want to say with portraits and still feel likeits ME saying it... Do I make sense?

And then day 1 of October was there, i did my first painting, i lookd at it and i feelt a little bit scared to post it on my Instagram. And i thought about posting it for i think 2 hours befor i just did it. Because why not. I've got nothing to lose and if some people dont like it thats okay because not every one can like everything :) I saw some amazing paintings on instagram from this years Inktober and some pieces from people that are still learning. And i think its wonderfull that you see so much states of art on a Challange like that wich everyone can join. Really wonderfull painting you did today (like everything you do ^^) and I am looking forward to tomorrow. Have a nice day

I feel like this one was for me, lol. I experienced a lot (if not all) of what you spoke about. I've recently come to the realization that what I like and what 'everyone else' likes may not match up and that's totally okay! My dream is to own a business creating art, which means in part I will have to create to my customers' expectations, but I want that to be balanced with also creating what I like. Okay, I'm done being weird. 😅

That's something i've struggled a lot with this year because i felt like my Art doesn't mean anything to anybody but i always want it to mean something. Have a nice rest tommorow. By the way I have this new found love for art, and I want to become an automotive designer. My skills are not good ( not at all) but I am trying to teach myself through books beside pursuing automotive engineering. It would be great to find a direction and few tips will be really helpful. 😀😀 I love your videos by the way, they feel very reassuring.. and your an awesome artist....

I don’t think I can make it through the whole month I just feel so tired and I lost that (I don’t know how to explain it) the feeling of “excitment” I get when I usually start to make a piece .. idk uni is killing me and I come home wanting to rest and I find this blank paper waiting for ink I LOVE INKTOBER and I felt really confident when I started but it seems so hard now..

search around for inspiration, Pinterest, tumblr, Instagram, put in random search terms and go on random tags, find photos to copy or map down your ideas just start in general doing soemthing and not waiting until a profound idea pops into mind

Important thing to know about the brain is that creativity builds on knowledge you already have.. So dont preassure yourself to come up with new exciting things before you have developed skills.. Draw or paint for the sake of building your skill and knowledge.. Study and copy (not claming it is yours of course) and be a sponge for as long as it takes firts:)

zsu. brz You can find inspiration from the stupidest objects in your daily life. Me foe example, I like to draw alien creatures witch I find in the wood pattern on my floor or in church :D

Have you ever considered doing a graphic novel/one shot comic or something? Or has anyone ever contacted you for illustration?

I have a question and that is, how can you make art your living? Both without youtube and with. Could you talk about that in a future video? Love the inktober videos btw, they are so cozy to listen to and your art is amazing.
