Present Dystopia Regulation is the last thing you want, as it only makes big tech even more powerful. Ted is going after the 230 immunity protection first, has already written to the FTC to start a 6B investigation, which is a deep dive into Google's practices and then anti trust/consumer fraud--breaking up the monopoly may be the answer. Ted's goal for these hearings, was getting out to the public and other senators, how bad the censorship has become and go from there. It may seem easy to solve, but it is not, because Ted and the public do not want a government speech police. Ted has talked to Trump and heads of the relevant agencies to go the transparency route first and now with Epstein's research, that is another tool in the tool box. Epstein's testimony was a big win, in this fight.

I agree, I tend to lean libertarian in government matters, but stuff like this makes me run full steam to the other side. One thing to consider though, if the government hadn't involved themselves to begin with (libertarianism) by giving them this 230 immunity, one wonders if wed be in this mess at all. Food for thought. In any case what's done is done and now its cleanup time. Hawley made a great point bringing up China. Theres a lot at stake here and we need to tread carefully. This is the biggest data mine in the world. Very dangerous. We cant just take 230 away because it could be our only leverage to get we want out of this. I can only hope we do what's right by the law and as many Americans as possible.

The government has been involved right from the start, because the 230 immunity only exists as an exception to other government regulation. Without it, these platforms would be liable for everything they host even if they were completely unbiased and only acted messengers of sorts. However, these big platforms have been slipping more and more into the publisher territory with their antics and are yet to face any real consequences.

What if google had to operate under the same liability laws that others do from the start, would we have this monster now? That's all. I concede no sense in getting all revolutionary about it, but the China thing is a bigger deal than people think. I went to google something on my phone the other day, my girlfriend and I were having a conversation and i just wanted to show her what I meant.
