If you look to nearly to other countries most use the army to protect the border. IE: Poland, Russia, Hungary, Ukraine, Austria, Italy, Spain, Finland, Australia and Egypt to name a few. This isn’t political, most other countries have border guards under a military branch or reporting to a military branch rather then a large law enforcement agency in the United States case.
