Foreign aid is part of our yearly budget. Most years, 40 billion is earmarked. In years where there is more stability, this can go up to 150 billion (or more). Yet, this is still less than 5% of our budget at worst and closer to 1% most years. Without investing in regional stability, we run a greater risk of having to put our soldiers on the field and spending Trillions. The big picture is often lost when one fails to even look at the available information.

Thankfully, a lot more than $90 billion has already been spent on the US the past 4 years. The American Rescue Plan Act - $1.9 trillion on schools, childcare facilities, covid relief checks, unemployment benefits etc The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act - $1.2 trillion on roads, bridges, public transit, broadband and utilities The CHIPS and Science Act - $52 billion for semiconductor manufacturing plants The Inflation Reduction Act - $740 billion climate change mitigation, healthcare and energy security and clean energy initiatives. So you see, Trillions have been spent on the US already and those wonderful and great things you called for are being built because of it.

That said, given that the US spends more on military spending than the next 9 countries combined. $95B is just under 10% of US annual spend. It will, almost by definition, massively help the US economy (and refresh military preparedness too). Perhaps more importantly, the aggressors are near-universally condemned. End of the day? Seems horrible, but probably the right call.

The money "for Ukraine" as an example, covers considerable funding for our own troops deployed in the region, and replacement munitions for our own military. The money "for Israel" includes considerable humanitarian support for the Palestinian people. The money for Taiwan also funds our own Navy, and their ability to defend themselves and our own chip manufacturing.

I don't remember before tRumpenstein, that either party has neen so disjointed in their goals before. I remember bipartisanship. It wasn't just that, he sat down with the director of the CIA who explained exactly what was going on in Ukraine and even had a one-on-one talk with zelinskyy. I really thought it was very admirable that he would put his job on the line to get this aid passed but honestly this all could have been done at the end of last year. Holding up that aid for Ukraine for so long has put them on the back foot and they've lost so much hard fought ground because of it. It unfortunately won't be enough to completely drive out Russian forces. To do that they're going to need long-range missiles, competent air defense systems and fighter jets among many other things that they probably won't get.
