The ambassadors have very good salaries, hence the higher tax. About health care: I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer two years ago. Had two surgeries and radiotherapy. Paid a a couple of hundreds for hospital accommodation but nothing for the medical operations. Kind greetings from Finland!

I am a US citizen who came to Finland for my master's. I have a good job in med tech. I love it here despite missing the wild wild west that America has regressed to. The quality of food and water are also preserved here, something that is quickly declining.

Bernie is getting up for each question, and he's looking old! Deep respect! I just love his strength of character, he's 80 years old! And still the strongest force of good in America! Why this man is not the president is a tragedy! Biden has proven to be much better than I feared, I got to have it to Bernie how he took one and another for the team, again and again, to make America better! He is the ultimate giver and altruistic person and one to emulate and look up to for future generations!

Something I wish was made clear, high income in Norway, Finland,Sweden and Denmark basically means 100.000-200.000usd before tax(pr person). We do not see much of the millionaire class here, they exist, but generally it's not what people thrive to become. Earning six figures is not that hard if you really seek that kind of money even without an education, but then you have no freedom in your personal life, working all the time. I personally think that it is enough when you reach the line in sand that says you to live well.

FIRST, we should help those Americans that need our help the MOST. The vast majority of our homeless are disabled or elderly. We have numerous people who are well paid to help our homeless, but no help is available, because they dishonestly pretend, that we don't want housing, so do not be fooled! I'm a disabled veteran who has been homeless for years, so NEVER give to ANY charity if you intend to help those who need your help the most!! We need affordable housing immediately! The wealthiest .01% can afford it, or lose their freedom.

We Finns are know for being straight. SO...We love USA, but there are some things you need to work with. Anyways...We respect the military veterans of USA and we want them to be on our side than against us. God bless USA. I was political saying this, but I meant everything I said. Regards, From Finland with Love. We are not Communist...there are 500 000 communist in graves along our eastern border after 1939-1944. BUT we are socialist...so you guys need to think the difference.

As a homeless disabled military veteran in America, thanks for your respect. I respect you being straight, as there is not enough of it in this world today. We all need to learn to care about each other, which to me, is the basis for socialism.

For those interested in regular people's taxation I'd say the tax rate is between 20-25% for people earning 30-50k€ (roughly comparable to $).

So, I'd like to address something. I think some people in the audience might have felt a bit cheated regarding the statement about the carbon neutrality of the energy production, when it came out that includes the carbon sink of the forests. People may feel that's very lucky. I should point out that it has to do with Finland's geographical location, which also drives a lot of the energy need in the winter. (There are also changes to the ability to sink and further actions are being taken to make it all greener still.) So, you might think well, okay, but why not just do what Norway and Sweden do? Finland can't. Sweden and Norway have the Scandes and they both get loads of hydroelectric energy, whereas Finland is fairly flat and basically all of the hydroelectric potential is already being used. Norway also has the Atlantic there so they get tons of wind energy and can build a lot more. Sweden can build near the Danish straits, I think. (The Danes also get that sweet off-shore wind.) There's a lot of potential for wind energy in Finland as well, but the problem is the lowest temperatures. Whereas on the Atlantic or near the Danish straits AFAIK there's always some wind, Finland has days in the winter when it gets very cold so energy is needed for heating the most, and that's when there's no solar (short days, sun low on horizon, possibly behind clouds, snow) and it gets very still so no wind either. So, it's not lucky. AFAIK the carbon sink thing is being modeled fairly accurately (by the EU), so it's not cheating either. But, sure, more needs to be done. If you want to talk about luck, luck is having your country span a continent, so that if you just strengthen the transfer lines, you can have fully green energy production by distributing it, because the sun always shines and the wind always blows somewhere in your country.

Mr. Sanders may be wrong that the system needs to be changed from below. The Finnish example shows it. In Finland, the intellectual elite started to create equality in society, which reached its current state in about 50-70 years. In Finland, the elite began to make ethical decisions because they realized that all people are equally important in the country.

As a Finn, I can tell you that Finland is one of the worst countries for elderly care. My 100% invalid sister receives nothing, and dental care is not included like in Germany. Also, the continuous sick holiday seems like a national sport and a significant pain for entrepreneurs. I run my company in the UK because of fewer taxes and cheaper operations.
@perberger809

Haha, you're funny! "One of the worst" does NOT come close to the truth! Finland is a paradise by comparison with most of the world and the US. People who own companies can cry all they like, but you're NOT most people. The system isn't built to make you rich, just content and less worried.

‘Elderly care’ as an issue is already a curious framing. As is its measurement by monetary payments. I thought you were going to lament the impersonal system, the bureaucratized inpatient system and the likelihood that your distinguished grandmother will be cared for by a grinning Muhammadan. But your evidence is not paying out enough, and not granting dental insurance?

@@perberger809 In fact, there are millionaires in Finland too, but how much you can feed a millionaire is another question.It is a fact that in Finland a millionaire pays proportionately more tax than, for example, a cleaning lady. You can also become a millionaire in Finland, but then your social responsibility is also greater, since you are in a positional advantage compared to, for example, a cleaning lady. This advantage comes at a price. On the other hand, Finland has an extremely ethical government, because the tax paid is useless if a government uses it unethically.

When I was in rehab, one of the old head counselors said “addicts are the most sensitive people on earth”, he said it again & again. Addicts do often have dual diagnosis with mental illness, but addicts are not what we traditionally think of as ill. They are the most sensitive individuals which requires them to escape or alter consciousness when they are over stimulated, when their sensitivity works against them. The substances available in the immediate environment are what is utilized as a metaphorical ark to escape the flood of the outside worlds’ stimuli. Is the answer desensitization? He said that our weakness lies not in our inability to be treated, but our inability to cope with how sensitive we are, and the fact that others will not either unless they are just as sensitive- hence the pipeline to AA & NA, similar support systems. Incarceration & the mental health system don’t address this simple issue. I don’t know if education & prevention are the answer, like putting a bandaid on a heart attack. Fun fact, he was so straight edge sober, that he wouldn’t allow his wife to use vanilla extract with alcohol in it in her pies even though it evaporates in the baking process.
