As a Bruins fan if Pinto is asking 5x5 and Ottawa isn't comfortable doing that I'd be happy to take him back as part of the Ullmark trade and make it happen. That kid is excellent. He drives possession, he makes players around him better, he's excellent two way, he wins a majority of his faceoffs, he scores at like .66 points per game as a second or third line center and has the potential to do more if paired with better wingers. Kid has Bergeron lite written all over him. The fact he's only asking for 5 is remarkable. Seeing where Ottawa is at if I was him I'd be asking for 7 or a trade.

Agree that the Ullmark trade has to come with a signing.

Bruins fan. Over the past 2 years I observed 2 different BOS teams make the playoffs due, in large, because of their goaltending. This year's team was projected to simply get through the season with a few million to spend and many open roster spots. The year before they set an NHL record that might stand even longer than the one, they broke. In each season, they alternated goalies. This year, the decision to stick with Swayman in the playoffs almost mirrored the decision to stay with Ullmark the year before. If your timeline is 3 years, either guy gets you there.

7:09 Norris to me needs to be 100 percent healthy. Although, a lot of people need to bounce back next year. Stu and Brady also did not have the best years to. Maybe Green will get them to play a better style for them.

I think the Sens should give Pinto a bridge deal, and I think he's worth second line centre money. Probably somewhere around 4M for 2 or 3 years and go from there. I love him as a player though and wouldn't want to lose him.

Don't think you can extend Ullmark until July 1st, so if Boston wants this year's pick, that trade is coming without an extension. Hopefully, they can talk with Ullmark's agent and get an agreement in principal.
@exturkconner4 ай бұрын
You can extend players a full year before contracts expire so no. The only time july 1st matters for an internal players contract is for an RFA you are planning to do a qualifying offer for. That can't be done until july 1st.
@angushiltz48804 ай бұрын
@@exturkconnerUllmark's year doesn't start until July 1st. The NHL new year doesn't start until July 1st so no contract extensions can't be signed before. You can resign your own RFAs and UFAs before July 1st but you can't extend a contract until the final year of the contract begins. So if Ullmark is traded before July 1st it will be with his current contract. They can then extend him after July 1st.
@exturkconner4 ай бұрын
@@angushiltz4880 You 100% can extend a contract before the final year. You can extend a contract in the final 2 years. The Bruins could extend Ullmark right now if they wanted too. If they are waiting for July 1st it'd be more likely that Ottawa would be wanting to wait to not have to pay his signing bonus.
@angushiltz48804 ай бұрын
@@exturkconner you can look it up if you'd like but a player that is in his final year of his contract is only eligible to sign an extension on July 1st. July is the start of the new year. That's why players get their signing bonuses on July 1st. The Bruins can not sign Ullmark to an extension until July 1st.

Everyone thinks it was Boston’s system . If you watched their games , Boston’s goalies were the reason they were so good . Plus Ullmark outplayed swayman after the trade deadline . In buffalo Ullmark was amazing too on a bad team and can keep your team in every game . I rather keep Ullmark and trade swayman because it’s not enough sample size for the contract he wants So if u you get Ullmark, u made yourself way better
@exturkconner4 ай бұрын
No one smart thinks that. Ullmark was great in each of his last three years in Buffalo on terrible defensive teams. He's just a top 10 goalie in this league period. Boston benefited more from having him then he did from having them. Did he like playing with Swayman? Sure did. Did he like working with Goalie Bob as his coach? Yeah of course everyone does. But he's always been good and there's no reason to believe he'd stop being good somewhere else. The bigger question is if he can play number 1 games for a team and not be in a tandem. I don't think he can. His big knock in Buffalo always was injuries. He's stayed pretty healthy in Boston splitting time. But if you try and make him a 1 and play him back to back for a bunch of games I'm not sure his body holds up. I think the evidence is it doesn't.

I have a difficult time understanding why Ottawa would draft a left handed D man. Why would they deal Chychrun, who is young and proven, and then take this kid? Is this kid projecting to be better than Chychrun? I just don’t see why you’re trading Chychrun to draft another left shot D. Also, yes, Ottawa whiffed on Korpi, Norris (and you can’t even say that definitively yet), Colin White, but they hit on Brady, Stutzle, Sanderson, Batherson, and even going back to Karlsson when they signed him to a 7x7, and got 2 Norris’ out of it. The long term deals have worked out pretty well I’d say for Ottawa.

Pinto is amazing and the fans love him. But he's not worth 5mil for 5+ years (yet). We can't keep giving young, unproven players a blank cheque.

Totally agree. Back in the day players had to prove they're worth the money they're asking for. This should be a bridge deal at 2.5-3M/season.
