If only the American public and other members of Congress cared about this as much as Senator Whitehouse does. This should not be one man's mission. The Israelis citizens were in the streets by the tens of thousands for over 10 weeks night after night protesting when Netanyahu tried to corrupt their highest court - even members of their military. Republicans, Mitch McConnell, and the Federalist Society corrupted ours, and our people just yawned with many not even having a clue about this corruption in their midst. We have become a tired democracy and that's usually how and when they fall. Ignorance and not caring. The people are not only not fighting they don't have any sense as to what they should be fighting for. Or what to save. We are pitiful.

@@B70707The Ad Hominem Argument (also, "Personal attack," "Poisoning the well"): The fallacy of attempting to refute an argument by attacking the opposition’s intelligence, morals, education, professional qualifications, personal character or reputation, using a corrupted negative argument from ethos. E.g., "That so-called judge;" or "He's so evil that you can't believe anything he says." See also "Guilt by Association." The opposite of this is the "Star Power" fallacy. Another obverse of Ad Hominem is the Token Endorsement Fallacy, where, in the words of scholar Lara Bhasin, "Individual A has been accused of anti-Semitism, but Individual B is Jewish and says Individual A is not anti-Semitic, and the implication of course is that we can believe Individual B because, being Jewish, he has special knowledge of anti- Semitism. Or, a presidential candidate is accused of anti-Muslim bigotry, but someone finds a testimony from a Muslim who voted for said candidate, and this is trotted out as evidence against the candidate's bigotry." The same fallacy would apply to a sports team offensively named after a marginalized ethnic group, but which has obtained the endorsement (freely given or paid) of some member, traditional leader or tribal council of that marginalized group so that the otherwise-offensive team name and logo magically become "okay" and nonracist.

Let’s face it Crow would have never in a billion years befriended Thomas if he had not been a high court judge. One of his only black friends. Both born in the same year states Crow so ‘we had so much in common’. Sure a black man brought up in a two bedroom single story house, parents both in working class jobs. Versus a son of a billionaire who continues the family tradition of continuing to be a billionaire. This stinks so badly it’s vomit making. Why is there no ethics committee looking into this. Where is Jim Jordan & his overly large laughable gavel. Forget justice & accountability if your relying on any member of the GOP. Especially in the era of the MAGA movement. America. You look sound & ARE ridiculous at this moment in time. Thank you, Senator Whitehouse! He is working very hard to clarify how dishonest our SCOTUS and other justices are-- unethical behaviors aided by Ginni Thomas, the Heritage Foundation, the Federalist Society, Liberty Central, Turning Point USA, and Groundswell.

I hope people appreciate how awesome this is. He is doing a series on floor of the senate. Just spitting straight facts. In the old days these are the kinds of speeches that got people beaten with canes (which has happened on the senate floor). I love this. Sheldon should run for president. Great speech delivery too. Dude had charts. Explains everything clearly. The actual substance disturbs me greatly and makes me sad for our country. Keep up the great work

I’m watching this amazing speech from Australia. If you can’t have confidence in your highest court in the land then where can the average citizen turn to for justice. Watching from afar and perhaps somewhat naively, it appears the US is imploding from within.

Also watching from Australia and makes us look squeaky clean - which we are certainly not we have so much corruption here too. So pleased we are not a republic!

Which is kind of a problem with our legal system. The average person doesn't have the resources to go toe to toe with the government over the constitutionality of a law.

From GA but hearing this Senator speak on the GOP/Well Hidden Corporate money influencing the judicial process is refreshing. He contextualized the nuance around the Propublica report well, and raises good motions to investigate/question further.

Well done, I look forward to the hearings coming up. Even in lower courts we adhere to the "no gifts" for court related services strictly, and gladly. It is hard to see the highest court in the land falter and as a result cast a shadow on courts who are working hard to right wrongs and provide equal access to justice for all. It is disheartening.

I work for the DoD and damn straight we have to report gifts. If we get a gift over $20 from a contractor we can potentially be fired and I'm not even in a position where I can influence anything. The corruption is ridiculous.

@@dankelly2147 You’re probably right, and. nothing much can ever be done so long as the GOP are looking out for their special interest groups (the “wealthy, the well off and the well connected.” quoting Hakeem Jeffries) But no one can say Senator Whitehouse just lets it go by. He has the facts and he states them.
