Sheepdog Says

Күн бұрын

I had a meeting with Oliver's SENCO and asked them all the questions about things I've learned from you lot and my own research, we set out a plan of action and I feel like tonight has been a pretty major step in the whole Autism Diagnosis story because we have a clear path to go through to diagnosis and I know what is likely to happen as a result.

Sounds like that Senco lady is actually doing her job and is good at it. Very lucky! 🙂

Shelly and Nicky Buy a House yeah that’s been so refreshing. I’m really pleased and hope to Hell she doesn’t leave any time soon!! Once he’s sorted id be willing to reference her anywhere based on the effort so far!

My 4 yr old is the exact same way when he doesn't feel well. His behavior is awful and he can say he doesn't feel good but can't ever tell us where he hurts or what's bothering him. He is the same with not effectively telling us when he's hot, cold, hungry, thirsty, etc. until he's in full meltdown mode. It's nice to follow your journey with Ollie. My son does have a diagnosis of adhd, asd, and spd but most people dont see it, including school diagnosticians. His adhd type symptoms mask a lot of the asd issues.

Interesting, I can’t recall what SPD is off the top of my head sorry. Surprising the school can’t see what has already been diagnosed.

@@SheepdogSays SPD is Sensory Processing Disorder. He has major issues with smell and loud, sudden sounds. He craves proprioceptive and vestibular input which makes him very hyper and rough. And he's a very picky eater.

That makes sense. I’d not heard of it before. You’d think the school could easily recognise that aside from everything else.

@@SheepdogSays the public school system in the US is not very supportive of special needs if they don't hinder their learning capabilities. When my 4 yr old is 6, he will start public kindergarten at the school. I believe they will be in for a huge surprise if they think these issues won't hinder his education and those around him. Maybe they'll help more then. As for now, they just turn him away because he doesn't have an "educational need".

That’s probably the case, that for his age and level what their teaching isn’t disrupted as such. When they expect him to sit in a chair all day, do tests, submit presentations and so forth then it’ll become clear they need to support him.

It took 6 months to get ADHD diagnosis for my son, the ASD diagnosis is taking longer although we have a paediatrian appointment in January. My son has just had his ados in September (13 month wait) im guessing the results will be ready for our January appointment might get a diagnosis the nurse doing the ados said she could see clear traits of autism, like Olly my boy is high functioning so is complex to diagnose and educationally he is where he should be, Love your vlogs.

Caroline Beckwith thank you, that sounds very similar then. How old is your son?

@@SheepdogSays they do sound very similar my boy is 9 so in year 5 at the moment, but for years ive been saying something is different, first went to docs when he was 6 and been to see lots of different people with long waiting lists, only just getting somewhere now, its a long journey for sure. Feel like we are at the same point so its great to see the updates.

Hopefully your next step is the big one and you can start getting everything you need. Do you know if your local area has an autism outreach team?

@@SheepdogSays hopefully yes although i was told he might need a 3di test too not even sure what this one is really if its needed will no doubt be another 3 months wait after January, but hopefully it wont be needed. Not sure about the outreach team will look into it, i go to carers meetings every month run by autism bedfordshire which are very good.
