did you try and poke into the wires on the transformer closer to where they go into the casing? maybe you have a break in the line between the casing and the connector? i have seen that in pinball transformers and others over the years. the transformer was good, but the wiring was broken leading to it.

I don't think I did but definitely a good suggestion. I could have gone further with it on the transformer side.
