This week let me introduce Trevor Hall. I met Trevor and his Dad and brothers at Week of Rivers 2022. We were able to share a small run on the Nantahala Gorge. We found an opportunity to catch a run on their dream river, Wilson Creek Gorge. Trevor is one of those young paddlers that just get it in kayaking. It all starts with the willingness to just Send It!

I will say this, I'm still not sure after watching these videos, which is causing my sides to hurt worse! Is it the leaning and tilting, trying to help every stinking kayaker in the film, or the laughing at the silly err, hilarious sidesplitting antics of all of you. Man I need that right now!

@riverkings such a great video, i loved the commentary. I like the music but i love the sound of the river, and you teaching that pair of legends the routes down helps me learn to read the water. Thank Pete

Another awesome video. I gotta say, I rather prefer the music. I think you pick great music that captures the spirit of the videos. I do like, once in a while, catching the raw videos but by and large, I like the music selections in the videos.

Love the family and adventure mix. Love kayaking, but nothing beats taking your kids out. Though Wilson still looks inviting at -12, think I would rather try at -6/-4 😉

Not that it was required for those soft eddys, but I didn't see a duffek stroke anywhere in this video. I'm with Solo Nutiket; what the deal is?

Such a great video!! I absolutely love how you not only take these people with you, but you make time to give some great pointers to those with you. Friday and Saturday were my first days on WW, on the Lower Green. Had an absolute blast! I look forward to connecting with you at some point, and run a river with you soon too. I am headed to Ocoee on Oct 1&2 for more instruction and fun times. If you are going to be there please shoot me a PM or text message. I’ll make a point to connect.

I hate seeing kayakers drag themselves into eddy's instead of using a duffek. That art has been lost along the way. Great seeing kayakers having fun.

OMG! Big uncontrollable rafts are appearing on the horizon, threatening to run all kayakers off the wave! No bells for kayakers this time around. These guys are too good! I want to see a raft try to run that slalom course. It would be like watching a pig run barrels. Geez. Canoes trying to run people over too. Guy has the nerve to give the kayaker the stink-eye as if he was in the right on that one. Trying to figure out what that is over on the left. Is it a gold sluice? There's no gold in that part of the country is there? Hope springs eternal I guess. Something's wrong. A true kayaker's vehicle is supposed to be adversely affected by system entropy. Well, usually anyway. Regarding music, in my other life I was a classically trained violinist/violist. I know, weird combination, that and kayaking. I must say though, even though classical music was my job, I don't mind any of the music people choose for their videos. In fact, my appreciation for music of all styles, genera, and forms let one of my professors in college to remark, "Katherine, I don't know whether you're eclectic or just plain tasteless." I didn't tell him, but it was probably the latter. I'll take that a little further and say that I love nature's fmusic also: bird songs, the wind in the trees, and the sound of rushing water are among my favourites in this genre. I participated in 7 Grammy winning recordings, and played three commands for Her Majesty, the late Queen of England. I received my doctorate in Music from Cambridge University, where a became a tenured professor, and I made my home there for many years. While there, I took the opportunity to kayak many of Europe's best rivers. It was a long way to go for a girl from a ranch in western Colorado. I did my masters degree at Oxford, and while there, founded the Oxford Kayak and Canoe Club. When I went to Cambridge, I had to found their Kayak and Canoe Club so that we could beat Oxford at slalom and downriver races. I received plenty of deserved ribbing for being a traitor. Thankfully, Harvard (where I earned my bachelor's degree) was too far away to compete with. They already had many water sports when I got there so there was no need to found one. I was, however, roped into accepting a position as president of the Outdoors Club, more by default than anything. I don't know if it even exists anymore. Harvard is a very academically competitive school, and people usually don't have time for that sort of thing. For me, I would not have survived there if I could not have been in the great outdoors at least one day of most weekends, so while most students were attending church or synagogue, I was out somewhere hiking or kayaking. It earned me the title amongst my peers of "Betty Backwoods". Back to the movie. That's some great looking rock gardens. More fun than a water park. Do you ever see any copperheads or water moccasins basking on those rocks? Nature designs the best water parks. Just seeing the guy walking across the creek made me hear banjo music. Seemed harmless enough though. Probably not even hill folk. I think with a river or creek like that, I'd get so busy gawking at the scenery that I'd either forget to head downstream, or I'd be headed downstream and I'd forget to pay attention to the river. I did that my first time down the Green, and things quickly got... shall we say, "exciting?" Really pretty slide in at 46:50. Practically a magazine cover. Not a live?! Anything you get through deckside up is a live! LOL! They're doing pretty good. Definitely getting better as the video progresses. And no swimmer's stars through the entire thing. Hope they read this. I've got to tip them off that if they intentionally swim just before hauling out at the end, it still counts, and they get a sticker! When his paddle broke, it looked like it was forcing him to get that paddle closer to the boat, which in turn was improving his form a lot. Kind of an expensive way to learn, but he sent it like a hero. Super job! Pete, you're a great teacher, and do a fine job of encouraging other paddlers. Though that would have been an easy creek for me, I'm really sorry I never got the chance to paddle with you, there, or anywhere else. My grandmother used to tell me, "You can have anything you want, but you can't have everything you want." I've had an awful lot in my life; well more than most people get, and I'm grateful for that. Still, there are always the "what ifs". On the other hand, on nights when I can't sleep, and sometimes at other times too, it's great fun to live vicariously through the videos of others who are sending the sport, and are creating the next generation of boaters. One day, a few of your students will be teaching a new crop of kayakers the art, and long after you and I have gone from this life, what we have done and passed on will still live. It's a type of immortality, and the only one we can really be sure of. Keep sending it, and keep up the good work.

There is no accounting for taste, especially with music, you will never satisfy everyone. Don't even try. Your videos are always enticing, especially with all I can learn from the advice you give your kayakers. Personally, I just love the sound of water, so I always prefer kayaking videos without music. But these videos are your creation, so however you like them best, is fine with me.
