It seems like the technique is pretty different whether you're doing drop to flat or drop to slope. Drop to flat require a little manual to lift the front wheel and land both wheels simultaneously, while drop to slope has the little push to bring the front down and level with the slope. Does that seem about right?
@halokiller711
@halokiller711 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's best to use the drop technique for the trail. Like around me is not crafted trails so I usually do a small manual before drops cause the landing are flat/not smooth and the lead up is not the best.
@pinkbike
@pinkbike 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can manual off the drop, but that's a pretty experienced/intermediate move. In the most basic terms... simply lunging the bike forward will be enough for smaller drops where you have less speed and need to exaggerate the movement -Christina

@shemshem9998 4 жыл бұрын
It's actually good to do it the way pink bike did it if you want to go as fast as possible. You can actually learn to kind of squad a drop this way like you do on jumps, it just keeps you lower off a drop then when you do a manual, plus your body positioning is also lower so that when you extend your ams and legs you bring the bike even lower. Its a critical step for when you need to send a drop faster then it was intended for, especially when racing. You can also scrub a drop but that's a bit harder.

It seems there are two very different schools of thought on riding drops. I've been mountain biking for around 18 years and I've always done it the same way Christina demonstrates here - thrusting your weight back / manualing off the lip. Quite a few other KZbinrs (Rich Drew / Joy of bike) seem to disagree with this, suggesting keeping your hips over the bottom bracket and crouching down while going off the lip is the way to go. I can definitely see there are pros and cons of each technique.

@HVYMETL
@HVYMETL 2 жыл бұрын
I watched several of Richard Drew's videos and compared to this. He does say that his hips "seem" to be back but in reality as the bike is pitched downward, his hips are over the bottom bracket vertically and so it looks like his hips are back. I didn't see where Christina says nor describes to manual off the lip.

It depends on the drops but in this case she’s landing very heavily front wheel first which is usually not the best. I say try lift up both wheels at the same time when it comes to bigger drops or else you’ll go otb. This video is honesty very misleading and teaching people the wrong technique.

Is it really "lunging the bike forward" as much as it is just shifting your bodyweight back? When I ride drops, there's very little effort. I simply shift my weight back. I only lunge the bike if I'm going too slow to simply ride off.

I actually feel that when it comes to big drops most of the times you do not have to do anything. Just stay in a neutral position and carry good speed. The pop is normally only necessary in lower speed drops where you do it to prevent the front wheel from droping too much in comparison to the rear wheel.

Yep, most of the time I just ride off and adjust my angle mid air I don't really think about doing anything, the only time when I do something is if the drop is off an uneven surface and my rear wheel could get hung up or if I'm going slow and know I need to do a little something

@@pinkbike But I also agree that when riding most trail sized drops with a sloped landing, I feel I keep a lot more stability and speed when my front wheel takes the beginning of the impact. My fork is supple and it just feels so much smoother than rear wheel first.

A lot of people consider them better for learning on. as long as you have one with decent tires and wheels, and a real fork up front, nothing from Walmart anyway, you should be good. If you haven't invested the thousands in a mid range full sus bike the trails you are likely comfortable riding will almost always be doable with a hardtail. if a little harder on your shoulders. Arm pump is fun.

The bike is solid and my Ebike conversion went great. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Very smooth ride at 30mph with no problems (135 miles ridden so far). The picture is a bit deceiving - there is WAY less space in the center of the frame than it shows. The suspension connection takes up the entire thing. So I needed to attach my battery on the bottom of the frame and my controller on the top. Instructions for assembly were lacking but honestly it wasn't too hard to figure out even though I have very little bike knowledge. Watched some youtube videos on adjusting the disk brakes but that was it. Still, I am loving it and very happy with the purchase.
