When I started my tree service I watched you, buckin billy, and pat from educated climber religiously. You were always quick to provide advice when ever asked. After 5 years of my business I got me one of them city jobs as a foreman, and now they also want me to get my isc arborist license. I no longer do my tree service, except for small jobs here and there for friends. But I still love and appreciate the content you put out. My happy place is still in my spurs up in a tree. Thanks August.

I almost never run into that problem with the notch gate, but it has happened...I put my lanyard around my handle though as I like my saw parallel to me and sitting upright so that I can grab it and it's in position already, I do sacrifice room on my handle a bit buy im use to it and it's what I like so there you go, great vid August really enjoy being able to go on these tree talks with you there my favorite hahaha thanks monkey beaver fam!

@AugustHunicke right now I got a dilemma that your skills be perfect for. Hurricane Helene broke a bunch of trees on my property. One tall oak broke half way up and is resting on another oak next to it. A real widow maker. I'm not too keen on bringing it down at this time. Waiting on inspiration and a strong wind to let this resolve itself.
@aljaz_plankl5 сағат бұрын
Hey August. I use DMM Mega Vault, it has an option to lock the gate in an open position. It works perfectly. I don't have to zip tie it so you can close the gate back if needed. If i want to lock the gate so the branches dont snap in i use a short piece of watering hose which is always on and you just slide it in the right position to lock.
@interiorurbanmining115510 сағат бұрын
I started out with a shembiner because it was cheap and getting started is expensive. I've since tried the kilo and the transporter, don't like the gates on either one, so I use the shembiner for my saw, and the kilo to hang slings or whatever else I'll only use once or twice in a tree. Definitely won't be trying the Notch one after watching this. Thanks August!
@AugustHunicke9 сағат бұрын
Earlier models of the shimbiner (I’m not sure what they look like now) had sharp edges that would cut the webbing of my harness.
@kingniles10 сағат бұрын
I learned the hard way not to leave any stubs in the path of the top’s butt. Looked like a near miss when neither top hit or hung up on the stub below and shifted direction. I once left a single stub to hold my friction saver below where I was topping. The butt of the top ricocheted off that small stump and shifted over enough that it hit a fence
@AugustHunicke9 сағат бұрын
despite the proximity, that was no near miss, it was an easy to predict miss. Deliberate Tree Work.

Yes, if they’ve updated it with a larger base so that it doesn’t cut the webbing I would like it. Maybe they have.

To me... the Husky is lighter.... and it's mostly about the sharpness of the chain.
@br-dj2ti15 сағат бұрын

My t540i came with the speed cut nano already on it. I was going to order it then read that it’s .325 lp , .043. Then I figured out that husky did a deal with Oregon. I was thinking that the SCNANO was 1/4” pitch but that I guess is the panther kit August sells , which I want to try out still. Maybe I’ll get it for my sons ryobi 3714 I just ported
@danmcburney324713 сағат бұрын
I have used both... and I like both.... but MAN that 1/4 pitch Panther is like a scalpel in the tree 😁 The Nano will probably last longer cause there's more meat to sharpen through but you owe it to yourself to put the Panther on a good saw once 😉👍 we've all spent more money in a worst way

Hey August, Lukas from Germany here. Been watching your videos since 6 years and I learned a lot from them, just started my own tree service 💪🏽 Just wanted to ask, why you don‘t use SRT when going up or down on the spar. Your DRT won’t work in case of emergency (in the way you use it). Stay safe!

I run that notch swinger on one of your saddles. Watch it tho it’ll lock itself sometimes an you’ll go for your saw an it doesn’t come out probably fine on them furs are your not rubbing branches but did it to me on an elm tree on a crane job. Saw fell out.

I run the Nano on my 2511T, it’s a big upgrade from what came in the box from Echo… that said the Nano kerf is narrow enough that you start feeling the bar drag in big cuts on soft wood. I don’t think cookie cutting is a really fair test on small saws but rather it should be half the test and the other half is how quickly you can blow thru a 2-3” branch…. Just my .02 tho.
