Absolutely, Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes is a GOATed game.
@lugiacannongalatic5 ай бұрын
A hallmark of the Sengoku Basara series is its skill floor and ceiling for enjoyment. Anyone can pick up the game, pick the strongest skills and immediately feel the thrill of being a one-man army. Even if one didnt understand Japanese, the gameplay was simple enough for even 10 year olds (like myself) to spend countless hours happily mowing down every stage. But then you add in all the other mechanics: Combo Fever, Sengoku Drive, S-String Cancels, Priming Skills, Parrying, Air Juggles, so on and so forth and you come to realize how extremely in-depth Sengoku Basara's gameplay can be and that isn't even counting the equippable items and their multitide of effects. Future entries like 3 and 4 would further emphasize this, to the point you can basically make DMC-style combo MADs for all the characters. It goes to show Capcom's design philosophy throughout their games of having a really easy to enjoy skill floor, while giving veterans enough depth to experiment and find out the craziest things you can do with some characters. Meanwhile DW6 made me farm for Red Hare for 1 months straight with obscure luck mechanics.

Then you've got Motochika's, where he basically congratulates you and walks off before collapsing suddenly. And who can forget Hisahide's, where true to his character, he dies by his own hand, blowing himself up with his own gunpowder.

Honestly, i kind of wished some of 2 Heroes' moves would return in 4 Sumeragi onwards Like Kojuro's multi hit and Charged Dash, Fuuma's Airborne Assassination, Motochika's Charge, Tadakatsu's Drone Buff etc. I still trying to compile what didn't return to 3 Onwards other than the obvious such as Oichi's Naginata or Ieyasu's Spear, but i wanted to try incorporating these old moves into the new ones.

Funfact: if we play sengoku basara 2 heroes at the beginning of the game but have the original sengoku basara 2 save game that is 100% finished, the progress will transfer to sengoku basara 2 heroes such as - 22 characters are max level - 22 characters have all weapons and all max levels - 22 characters have all armor and all max levels - 22 personal items already have at the beginning of the game - 22 characters already have a second costume - there are already many title fans at the beginning of the game So we just need to focus on the 8 characters who are still level 1.

Usually lv 3 or lv 5. You can also obtain from golden armory in Conquest stages. OR you can obtain it from armory/weapon lv 10 in Conquest mode HARD difficulty (drop around 30% chance). But that means, *A LOT* of soft resets (press select button + start button simultaneously) until the enemy who has the armory/items defeat another warlords before you choose their territory You can get the 3rd armor by completing floor 50 in Tournament mode

@Profar26 thank you for bringing more attention to this awesome series of games. I always watched this franchise from afar, since I don't speak Japanese and most of them were never translated to English. As a fan of musou games in general I always wanted to really get into this series. When samurai heroes released in the west I couldn't find a single store selling it (I live in brazil), and since I was a teenager at the time I had to ask my dad to buy it for me on the psn, he didn't trust it to put his credit card information on a video game. Crazy stuff in his mind at the time, so no game. Nowadays I play mostly on pc, so at some point I need to try emulating it, since my old ps3 is long gone. I really wanted to play sengoku basara 4, but no English version and no pc release made it impossible for me. Crossing my fingers Capcom makes a 5th game someday and it comes to pc, since I'm assuming nowadays a game by Capcom is guaranteed to have a western release, right?..... right? Hahahaha

I honestly think this game is goated but it's not the best warriors game on ps2, warriors orochi 1&2 are the best, specially the wo2 you have more characters with different move set, unique weapons, skins and wallpapers, you can bring 3 characters into a fight and change them on a whim, and interactions of the characters might not be as good as the w03, were still fun, and weapon upgrade system is freaking awesome you also have the versus mode, survival mode and dream mode but at the end of the day I can absolutely see why would someone say sb2h is the best warriors game by the way great video
@Profar265 ай бұрын
Oh, I love Warriors Orochi 2 on the PS2. Both Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes and Warriors Orochi 2 are the top 2 musou games on that system. Both games have a lot of replay value. I put Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes higher than Warriors Orochi 2, is because the production value of the prior is better than the later, at least for the PS2. I usually go for Musou Orochi Z, when I want to experience Warriors Orochi 1 and 2, rather than playing those games individually on the PS2. Musou Orochi Z is the definitive version of Warriors Orochi 1 and 2 combined.
@wolfofpersia22755 ай бұрын
@@Profar26 well yes the z version is better for sure, but production value of wo2 alone is amazing, and I would argue it's higher, more level themes and more varied levels with unique scenarios and team ups the sb2h characters have more individuality because of character theme songs and animations but if we compare the wo2 levels production value with sb2h characters production value you can understand why to someone like me wo2 is the best warriors game on ps2 but I completely understand your mindset brother.

Amazing video, I sort of wanted to make a retrospective of the whole series, specially knowing Japanese I can explain the entire lore for every game and character, and a lot of stuff from behind the scenes during development that I've got to learn, also trivia like the whole drama with the game producer, or the Basara vs Musou fanbase war... but it would be like a 6h long video, and not only would it take an awful lot to source everything up, but writing it and editing it all together would be painful also I'd probably want to buy the few manga that I am yet to read from Basara, and the stageplays (Only watched the Basara x DMC one, the others never interested me much), so I'd have to spend quite a lot of money for it, I'll stick with translating the openings and endings for the games/anime
@Profar264 ай бұрын
I mean if you want to do retrospective videos of Sengoku Basara, then go for it. In regards to the drama with Kobayashi, and the Basara vs. Musou fanbase war, it's not worth talking honestly. What is there to talk about? You're just going to ramble for 6 hours, about what people say on online forums, and nothing more. It's just emotionally draining. As for the Kobayashi drama, like I said, what is there to talk about? A lot of them are just speculations with no evidence, based on "he says, she says". There is no end to it as well, because there is no legit case to begin with.

@@Profar26 a lot of it is useless and not worth being mentioned past the fact that it gave basara a not so good image with musou fans and some Capcom fans in Japan, which kind of made it harder for the game to grow more over there (and maybe getting more budget for new games)... No point in going in-depth after stuff like internet fights and someone being weird 14+ years ago. Like I've said its mostly trivia, and trivia tends to be trivial (hence why they come from the same word), it's not demonizing the game that I love, just fun facts that I've personally never seen being discussed, though I don't know if the fanbase for these games in the west even exist after Koei Warriors forums sort of died Same for things development stuff, e.g why kotaro is mute, why some characters never returned, etc... Man, the more I watch these SB reviews, the more I want to play them as a newer Musou fan, now if only I could understand what the heck I'm doing in them or find a copy of 3 on Wii or PS3, (I have both of those consoles) but I guess that's what I asked for when trying to get into series's like this or Kamen Rider when there's barley anything you can get in English, heck I bet the English Manga and Anime releases aren't even in print anymore cuz that just my luck. These also are kind of ruining Starcrossed Soul's SB videos for me as well, not because those are bad, but I'm learning so much about these games from these videos, while his are kinda barebones, and when I watch a review, I'm there to be informed, (Like I had no idea about the unique death animations, those are so cool! why would you not mention those!) plus, you kept most of your biases out of the video, (If you've seen the first games video than I'm sure you can guess which part I'm talking about) those videos just feel more like talk pieces than reviews/retrospectives now that I think about it.
@Profar265 ай бұрын
I did watch StarCrossed Soul's retrospective on Sengoku Basara 2 and 2 Heroes, when I was brainstorming for mine. I didn't like how most of the video is him talking about the characters historical lore, instead of actually covering the game. In short, he didn't structure the video well. This is why I like to use chapters in my videos. I can focus on certain sub-topics, while keeping the main topic relevant. That's what I did for both my Sengoku Basara 2 and 2 Heroes retrospective videos.
@SirIsaacFortesque5 ай бұрын
@@Profar26 Yeah that's pretty much what I'd say, I did say that I liked the video in the comments but thinking about it, it's just kinda average. And to reiterate, I didn't really like the segment talking about Samurai Warriors 1 in his video on the first game, all his comparisons felt fairly harsh and biased, ("The character designs are decent but uninspired compared to Basara") and felt a little pretentious as well. Along with the comparisons being very apples to oranges, it also feels like he just said it's a decent game to get SW fans off his back, like I get it, you prefer the anime disguised as historical fiction over the historical fiction disguised as an anime, just say you don't like the game compared to Basara and move on, it isn't that hard to say you don't like a game, you can say you think it's an okay or decent game, but you still don't like it, it's that easy man.

IMO sengoku basara 2 heroes and musou orochi 2 are the top musou games I've ever played but unfortunately, both series also went downhill after those respective titles, along side the musou beat em up genre as a whole. I've played ps3 era musou games and subsequent titles just doesn't seem to be able to capture the fun and excitement of musou games in the ps2 era.

Musou Orochi 2 as in Warriors Orochi 3? I disagree with Sengoku Basara series going downhill after 2 Heroes. If anything, the games gotten better, especially in terms of combat
