On Basara 3 Utage Tenkai's story it was implied that Matsunaga "took" his name after Akechi begged him to kill him (This was after Hideyoshi's army [Ieyasu and Mitsunari] defeat him) but refused to do so, making him forget his real name.

Actually Matsunaga is the real winner in sengoku Basara the last party, of course if you play Matsunaga and tenkai story mode in Basara 3 utage you will understand

I think it's because mitsuhide died in season 1 ( not really ) and then he became tenki because if i am not mistaken nobunaga was the one who killed him

It’s based on the rumour that mitsuhide (in real life) didn’t die after getting beaten by hideyoshi and that he went into hiding and became a monk called Tenkai (a real monk). In the game mitsuhide is tenkai in disguise. It’s obvious to us (the designers wanted it to be obvious).A lot of the older characters in the game mention that he looks familiar. But no one unmasks him. Even nobunaga, when ‘tenkai’ asks him to say his real name says ‘I don’t know you’ (although knowing nobunaga this is probably him saying, I really don’t care who you are). It’s the same in the anime. He plots to resurrect nobunaga under the guise of a ‘peaceful monk’.

@@notnownorman5410 from what i recall hearing from another youtuber matsunaga hisahide in the games was the one responsible for mitsuhide donning the alies of tenkai which lead to the chain of events that lead to nobunaga's revival.
