"[w]e're not Satanists, or Christians, or pagans. We're not religious at all. We just put symbols into our music sometimes, depending on what we're interested in at the time. We do care about people and the state of the world, and if we're spiritual at all it's purely in the sense of caring about art and inspiring people with ideas." (OOR, 2002). They aren't satanists.
@Program74 жыл бұрын
That is only their subterfuge but they are apparently satanists. It’s because they mention the devil clearly too much. 1. devil / a few old tunes (1996) 2. peace-tony-devil / old tunes vol. 2 (1996) 3. the devil is in the details / geogadd (2001) 4. the devil is in the details (reverse) / geogaddi (reverse) (2002) If i also count the voice in their one track named ’’you could feel the sky (reverse)’’ who say ’’a god with hooves, a god with horns’’ then we have them already mentioning the devil 5 times. Also is their album called ’’geogaddi’’ exact 66:06 min in length. The standard version of geogaddi does even have a file size of 666mb as well.
@depressed_cows4 жыл бұрын
@@Program7 Regarding the album length of Geogaddi, they said "When we were discussing the length of the silence [Warp Records owner] Steve Beckett actually suggested to take it to a total 66 minutes 6 seconds, because then everyone would think it's the devil who made the album. And we just laughed." They're similar to TOOL in that they both just like putting cryptic imagery in their albums. This isn't even limited to the occult, since on Geogaddi they toyed with numerology and mathematics. If you'd like to read a bit for yourself: bocpages.org/wiki/Geogaddi
@Program74 жыл бұрын
Yes that's why this ''magic window'' track is there… exactly to make it all 66:06 min. Still for me this is not cryptic imagery, but devil worship. I mean you see how this look.

When you think back far enough, specific details might be missing. What she was wearing, what you ate for lunch, what time you woke up, the temperature outside. But you remember the emotion of the memory vividly. That's why it's a memory, you felt something that made you keep it. It's not just a fact you recall, but an experience you pull back from the past. The wave of sound mimics that wave of emotion you feel. The very general, depersonalized audio clips are the memory. Unimportant but serve a purpose nonetheless, to flesh out the feeling - or to emphasize the sound

I love how halfway through the song the crowd stops talking almost entirely and all you hear is the sound of BoC playing. The song sounds like it has a slow start, as some BoC tracks do, but as you listen through you realize the song isn't picking up further than these few chords -- and that's on purpose. Everyone in the room is focusing solely on whats being played, that this music is coming from a deeper personal and emotional place. BoC wants you to feel it, if it just takes time to let it sink in to everyone's minds. It's calming, when you let yourself become washed over by it, relax and think to yourself "this is it ... this is all it has to be." Sometimes it's hard to explain to people why I choose to listen to music like this. "Sounds boring, its putting me to sleep" I hear often. But it has to do all about how it connects with you on some core level. I can't make someone else connect with it how I do. But my explanation above might help them understand a little. Wish I could have experienced it live.

Clarifying a few thought almost 20 years later: I was there with my brother and 2 other friends, April 2001. I'd previously seen boc at the incredible Lighthouse party the previous October (An amazing show, we were stood in front of Aphex twin for the boc set) Being a huge fan of boc since March 98 when MHTRTC came out we jumped at every chance to see them but there were very few. I also drove from Derby to Edinburgh with a friend to attend the listening party for Geogaddi at a church in January 2002 as he had won tickets (Funnily enough nobody even checked our tickets when we got there, I think it had something to do with always allowing people into a church regardless of what is happening.) ATP 2001 was a great festival all round, curated by Tortoise. Truth be told we only bought tickets because boc were playing, as it turned out for the final time at the time of this message and i'd be surprised if they ever play again. Broadcast were great on the friday night as was Mike Ladd. Autechre were incredible on the Sunday night. Saturday was for boc! The feeling I still get hearing Echus, the opening track is unlike any other feeling I get recalling any of the hundreds of gigs i've been to. There were some non-believers over by the bar area, they were the ones shouting "Press play" and "where's your guitars" as boc got ready to perform. What then transpired was probably the most 'Punk' moment i've ever seen live and by that I mean punk in the purest sense; doing what you believe in, what comes naturally and to hell with the doubters. After 6 minutes of pure mind-tickling bliss the final chord faded away and the entire room (which had settled to complete silence for the tune) exploded in rapture. An incredible moment, brought about by one of the best bands to exist....And then the beat dropped.... To be a boc fan in the early days when their output was so amazing and otherworldly, from 1998 to 2002 and to see them live twice during that time is something i'll always cherish.

@young-stove2 жыл бұрын
@Tyler I dont think its evil or anything like that, definitely unusual and otherworldly, but thats part of the point, it can help people feel and see things from beyond their normal vantage points by plucking such unusual emotional strings inside us, thats one aspect of their music anyways. as someone whos been playing around with creating music more in the direction of this music than more conventional music for my entire life, I can say for a fact you do not need to be affiliated with the devil, or evil, or be on drugs (though they dont always hurt) to conjure or create, or just accidentally stumble into, some very strange otherworldly sounds and emotions. sometimes stuff sounds very weird, and sometimes people decide it would be interesting to see what happens if you keep going with it, or try to fit it together with other things. now deeper meanings and intentions can still be a part of this process, but honestly, I think that we have far more serious threats and concerns to focus on in this life. if youre worried about some kind of satanic force manifesting in this world, I dont think this somewhat obscure music that may or may not have had a thought of "satan" involved in its creation Is the thing to be worried about. Theres true physical evil out there, actual horror being caused by human beings. Enjoy music, while you can. and I'm not sure where to find more info about the whole "satanic boards of canada" theory other than the channel that has uploaded this video. Like I said before, they go on and on about their perceived satanic connections with BOC in the comments and descriptions of all their BOC uploads. sorry if this is just a weird run on sentence I just woke up

Nostalgia for a world shared with us via image and sound, but not a world that we can touch. A warm, peaceful life in a fertile place.

It kinda makes you look back and think what is life. Just focus and reconsider the beauty in the everyday things (laughter and conversation between people in the background, the beautiful picture of nature). I think that's the point, just look back and realise how beautiful life is, and we often forget the wondeful everyday things. So this melody reminds me to live in the moment and enjoy in every little sound I hear and in every sight I see. Life is so beautiful

1am at night, listening to BoC. My mind slowly wanders through the abyss. A black giant hollow abyss which holding all my experiences, knowledge, feelings and nothing else. I see everyone i love and i hate yet i feel nothing towards them, realizing the presence of every human that stepped on this very earth in that very moment. Like a train slides in front of my eyes, i see every human's life sliding in front of me. I experience every feeling they felt, they are feeling now and they'll ever feel. The sadness of a soldier who left his family behind, the happiness of a child who got a present for the first time, the hope of a mother wishing his child's to be alive who's stuck under construction after an earthquake. As i shed a tear with soldier, i smiled with child and prayed with mother. I start to spin as the Earth spins, i start to spin around the Sun as Earth spins around it, i start to spin around the black hole in the center of our galaxy as the solar system spins around it, i start to drift as the Milkyway drift in this black sea of nothing but energy we call space. I understand my presence in this colossal system, feeling less and less important as the frame gets bigger until i become nothing but a single dot. My entire existence becomes meaningless yet my mind's bonds are broken, free to wander anywhere. It wanders galaxies, planets, anywhere it desires for hours. But comes back to only thing that's important, my self, my mind. My mind realizes what creates this universe is the mind itself, without it there would be no universe, no humans, nothing. I wish i could share these feelings with everyone i know but they wouldn't understand, they didn't before. This is a brief section of my adventure i make occasionally. BoC is the most unique type of music i've ever felt in my entire life. Thank you guys for being beyond awesome, you brought a whole different dimension to the music world.

It's taken me a long time to realize the reason why this song gives me such a strong feeling of nostalgia. The nostalgia is not for a time i never had, but for a the time i've had so far. This song seems to describe my life. anyone else feel the same?

I know that this was played live, but I just want to highlight the fact that, the first time I heard this, which was 2 years ago I think, I didn't imagine the audience to be theirs. What pictured in my head was an outdoors high school sports game. I had just graduated from college that same year and I never felt so attached to my high school days than at that time. Fast forward to now, almost done with college and learning so much about life, I want to go back to my school and hear how much the audience here resembles it there. The people cheering, living in the moment and not having a worry in the world, just wanting to enjoy the event. I will always look back to this song in that way. I can see myself in that crowd, seeing everyone happy and moved by what's being displayed to them. That just touches me in a way nothing else can. I love to see people happy. I also find it very strange how this music is the perfect way to depict that.

My dream is to meet the brothers some day and tell them how much their music has changed my life. About 4 months back, I was on the verge of suicide. I had it all planned out, I was going to pop on "Turquoise Hexagon Sun" and on the final note, I was going to pull the trigger. As I listened to the song, I saw the beauty an changed my mind. I haven't had a suicidal thought since.

Back at times, when I was a student, with few other close people I was the main quarter of organasing a massive party, the whole campus of students ever been to. It took place in the garage, designed by one man, it was two-floor apartment, we had dj set and more than hundred people staying close to each other in somewhat of 60-70 sq m. I left the party when the most reliable people came to it, and i returned when more than 80 people came. I was talking with all the people, i was astounished, because it was massive and that was exactly what i was seeking for long part of my life. I did drugs, and at some point i understood i am not handling it, i went to bathroom, turned off the lights, and while people were banging on door i was just lying on the bathroom carpet in full darkness. At that moment of time, i did not knew this song, but as i listen to it know, it lays on like a second skin on the faded muscles...

in the boards of canada community "Notice: I distance myself from the artist’s obvious satanic belief. From now on this upload is only here to inform about that" is a huge copypasta. A lot of it is based off their album Geogaddi that does have satanic stuff hidden in it but the notion they actually believe it is absurd.

I have been listening to BoC since I was in early High School and have had some truly profound moments and realisations about life thanks to them. Recently I have began to explore Eastern religions/philosophies and the parallels between what I am reading about life, "living in the moment", experiences of death, etc, are unreal in that I feel I already have experienced these things through BoC. Yes, I have taken psychedelics in the past, but I have equal experiences WITHOUT drugs & just BoC.

Fair play if anyone thinks the sound of the crowd spoils the tune but personally I think it adds so much to the recording. The fact that this video is still online after so many years I think proves that it was meant to be here. This video is the only place this piece of music exists for the majority of people around the world, therefore the extra noise in the recording is part of the song. One of the best pieces of music I will here in my life.
