There are some pieces of the measurements that are caused by flaws in the device itself such as a dip, peak, dip pattern from 4.5K-6K~ and some general imbalanced due to sealing issues. Hey i have a question, im a noob at this, can i use 660s by just directly connecting it to my laptop or iPhone? And enjoy? Is it listenable? And if so, which one sounds better without amp, the momentum 4(the wireless headphones) or the 660s(assuming the 660s is just connected directly without any amp/dac etc)

@@allenalphonse4962 hd6 line needs a good amp dac and most laptops phones DO NOT have... But there are some that they have for example LG V series phones or some motherboards with powerfull Dac amp for example Asus Pro series. So the answer is most likely u need dac amp something like Fio k5 pro. Momentum wireless have build in Dac Amp so they Dont want external one... U can bypass that using them with cable but the sound signature on momentum change a lot with cable use to me are terrible with cable but ok with Build in amp dac witeless mode. But those are different type of headphones for quality hd6 series are waaaaay better but for portability closed back isolation the momentum are better obviously.

I've owned and used the 650, 6xx, 600 and 660s and i think that overall the 660s is the best. The HD600 also really good, but the bass is definitely lacking.

Audio is pretty subjective so I can't really agree. I owned 650's for years and as soon as I tried the 660s I immediately sold them and never looked back. The only thing I prefer is the tonality on the 650, the Sennheiser veil is something I very much appreciated and I do miss it on the 660s. Otherwise it's just the superior headphone in every way. The imaging is so much better that it makes the 650s sound like trash and I loved those things for years. The immediate difference in separation and imaging is smack-you-in-the-face obvious and there was no going back after I noticed it.

I certainly heard the difference in timber. The voice first seemed less smooth and more metallic on the 660s but way cleared than my 6xx, plus I find the 660 have more tight bass, more texture and details. Whith a hybrid tube amp the 660s are perfect. More details and smoother than my 6xx. I never liked the vale. I like smooth and clean.

I am using iFi Zen DAC v1. balanced connection with HD660s. Very happy with the results. They are very smooth, natural and realistic sound with a touch of warmth. With 150 ohm impedance I never need to turn the volume above 11 o’clock. As it is not heavy, I can listen for a few hours without feeling fatigue. I mainly listen to classical music which I think HD660s is ideal for this genre. No matter it’s Chopin’s nocturne (solo piano) or Schubert’s string quartets or symphonies by Beethoven and Mahler involving 100 + pieces of instruments of varied tones and textures, the HD660s reproduces them with ease and accuracy. The HD660S makes me feel I am sitting right in the best seat of the concert hall.

The fact that they are easy to drive is indeed an important aspect. If a person wants to listen to his music in the living room in the afternoon and in his bedroom in the evening, why does he have to move everything? Especially considering that for 90% of customers who don't use headphones professionally, 150 ohm is more than enough. Regarding the price, one must take in account many factors, including durability and quality control for example. You say that 350 euros might be too much: what other headphones at 300 euros compare overall to the HD660s, taking in account of course sound quality but also comfort, quality control (that is, from a customer standpoint, absence of variance from one unit to the other) and durability?

I've had the HD600, 650 and now the 660S as of a few days ago(along with MANY other headphones) and I believe the 660S is the best out of them all. This reviewer needs to do this review again. Same bass as the HD600? No. More treble? No, they are just more clear - big difference.

Sadly not a measurement metric yet for measuring things like detail and nothing super solid for dynamics. All of that is going to be on opinion. As for test tracks I have many of them. Not sure which ones I would pick to post.

Well, I've been a huge fan of the 650 and 600 for many years, but I happen to prefer the cheaper 58X now. It just sounds more dynamic and clean to me. Only listened to the 660S once, but it sounded very similar to the 58X. The 650 does have a bit more mid and treble presence, but it's a little muddy in the bass in direct comparison to the 58X. I think the reason for this supposed metallic timbre is the small peak around 5.4 kHz, as seen on many graphs of the 58X and 660S. Once you EQ that out by -3 dB or so, it sounds very close to the 650/6XX but with tighter bass and a less shouty midrange.

Let me help some buyer's. 58x and 660s are 150ohm but the difference on running then its not more than 10% trust me i know i have all the senn series. 58X use the 5 series driver tuned like 6 series. 600 are the most Neutral 650 are the smoother more forgiving. 58x are grainy with more bass. 660S are the one without vail with most resolution and tight bass they are not bright like Beyerdynamic or Koss. 660S are also warm but not like 650. HD599 are for gaming bigest soundstage of all and with a lot of mid bass peak. Thats it.

Some people dont care about loudness but about quality. For example i Use my HD650 with my phones LG v30 and Samsung S9 and its great. 660S i use them on my desktop pc With IFI dac BL and they also scale great and sound great. This is a misunderstand with 660s 150ohm the loudness and scalling its not more than 10% different from 600 and 650.

The HD600 isn’t gone, after speaking with Sennheisr UK & Sennheiser Germany they are phasing out the HD600 with the marbled blue. I have bought the new HD600 which are grey with an offset Sennheiser logo & a smaller box (the hinged padded presentation box is no longer included )

Yes it seems in the time since I uploaded this video, Sennheiser has decided to reverse their decision to discontinue the HD600 and 650. Both were removed from their site at one point. Although from Sennheiser on Twitter they decided to create new molds since the molds currently used were basically 25 years old. So this is why we have the new HD600 and HD650 2019. Both of which are made in Romania and do not include the presentation box any longer.

Max Settings I had the hd600 new grey ones & sennheiser said they were made in Ireland. Though the pair I got had a frayed strain relief on the left hand side of the headphone, sent those back & managed to get an older (blue marbled) hd600 pair with the hinged padded storage box & also a pair of HD660s. Sennheiser gave me an excellent price because of the problems I’d had so I could get the 660s at a considerable discount. The imaging on the 660s is superb though the vocals on the 600 are slightly more involving. It’s a difficult choice and I been listening to both pairs with a sap II pro headphone amp for 6 hours yesterday. I think the 660s is like our British equivalent of marmite (love it/hate it) as I’ve seen some hugely positive reviews & some really negative reviews. It’s all down to the individual in the end. Personally for me I’m leaning towards the 660s

While I agree that the 660s is not different enough to upgrade if you already have the 650 or 600, I've yet to understand how the 660s is considered to be too expensive at $500 yet the 650 was the same amount when it came out. Granted, I'm not a fan of paying much for anything at all but it just seems a little odd. Subjectively speaking, the 660s looks better and it also has more accessories. If we're counting inflation it's actually cheaper than the 650 when it came out.

because the law of diminishing returns apply here. you get a few percent of improvement for a much more expensive price. you can buy the 6xx for way over half the price, a used one much more less. same goes for the 650. at that point you're better off saving those bucks for a decent amp or for another headphone. get a planar like a sundara for that matter.

3 years later the 660S is being given away by Sennheiser for less than the original HD 600. It also received a v2.0 version whereas the others have stood the test of time. It was clear the 660S did not receive the same admiration the others received.

Less bass than 650 ? My 660S has significantly more bass, goes way lower and is tighter than base on 650. (using Bifrost Multibit/SMSL SP200) Also why use this instead of 650? Because this is faster, has better base, mids are still amazing, better imaging and it got more treble. It's great for modern music, electronic music, metal etc.

HD600 and 650 discontinued? I can't find any info on that. They still seem to be in stock everywhere. I assume they won't discontinue the 6XX though. But HD600 is also unique and it would be very sad to see them discontinued. I have both HD600 and 6XX. Love both. HD650 has the smoothest, most natural mids probably of any headphone I heard. The HD600 has the best timbre for acoustic instruments IMO. I wonder if I should get a backup pair of each sometime in the future just in case... I never tried the 660S, but I have the 58X and like it with electronic because of the extra bass and better dynamics and treble attack over the classic 6xx line. They definitely can't compete in timbre with the 300 Ohms 6xx cans though, but they are not too far off. Acoustic still sounds quite nice on the 58X IMO and better than on something like Hifiman 400i or most other cans in their price range for that matter.

Nick tan “Better” is going to be subjective. However, I have all 3 and the 660S is my preferred headphone. In short the 660S could be viewed as the best of both worlds but personal preference is going to be a big factor here. For more of a comparison take a look at the review by metal571. He considered the HD600 to be his reference for many years and in his opinion the 660S dethroned it. Take that with a grain of salt though as we’re all looking for different things in a headphone and not a single one of them are perfect. This is a good review but I’d disagree with resolve on his description of timbre and detail. The 660S is a very detailed, and this was one of the goals in mind when Sennheiser designed this headphone. Many reviewers find the 660S to compare more to the HD600 than the HD650 but again we all hear and think quite differently on this subject. I find the HD650 to be a different beast altogether as it has a smoother, warmer signature but if you have budget constraints the Massdrop HD6XX would be a no brainer and certainly not a disappointment. I do agree the asking price of a new 660S is too much. Go try some out or buy where you have the protection of a return policy! Have fun...Having trouble choosing is a good problem to have. I got the 660s used for 200€. The guy bent 1 of the springs and sold it as defect. It was an easy fix for me :D In my opinion the 660s sounds way better than the 600 or 650. Better bass, better highs and clearer overall. The 600 sounds lifeless and the 650 sounds like you have a sock over the driver. I also dont like the slowness of the 600 and 650. The 660s are way faster and punchier. It sounds like a better version of the 700.

About If you’re on a budget get the 58X. Don’t listen to people that say they aren’t in the same league as the 6XX. There’s a slight loss of detail compared to the 6XX but they are DEFFINATELY better than the 598 or 595. Some people believe the 58X sound indistinguishable from the 660S with the grill foam removed. I left mine in since I like the extra weight in the bass. Read all the articles on the Sennheiser HD 6 family on Inner Fidelity including the 660S review by Tyll and you will learn a great deal on the 6 series family headphones and headphone mechanics in general.

It's just a deal breaker for me and unacceptable for the Clear at $1500 to clip line this. I've got the HIFIMAN Arya and HD 660s and can drive them as hard as I want with no clipping, distortion or issues whatsoever. The Focal headphones might be ok depending on what type music you listen to. If you like Rock or music with Bass I'd would avoid the Focals

Clamping force diminishes very quickly if you actually use them. Negative plus feel and couldn't finish the vid on that basis. If you want an honest opinion its simple. Great if you are not a bass head, otherwise these are great

Great review! I thought the bass stands out more than the 6XX. I heard the bass is almost on par with the 58X. I think the price is crazy for the 660S. Seems way over priced. I’m guessing Sennheiser is trying to make up for the R&D they put into the 660S? The material is not far from their previous cans and there is a lot of plastic but still incredible build. I can easily afford the 660S but it’s just priced so strangely. From other reviews, I heard the 660S is superior over the 600/650/58X

megazine TYLL Inner Fidelity did not think the 660S was an improvement over the 600 and 650. He was VERY dissapointed in the 660S. Luckily the HD 650 is still available sold through Massdrop as the HD 6XX for $200.

la hd600 e un po esuberante sugli alti la hd 650 un po carente sui bassi, la hd 660s cerca di mettere ordine e in qualche modo ci riesce,dire pero che non e la degna erede della hd650 non e professionale da parte vostra,e semplicemente una altra cuffia ,se piaccia o no e un altro problema.io le possiedo tutte e tre ,in piu la hd800, sono tutte fantastiche,ma quella che mi appaga di piu e la hd660s " de gustibus non disputandum est" i pregi e i difetti delle cuffie come dei diffusori,li creano solo le nostre orecchie.grazie

Thats why i domt Trust this type of Reviewer's. Most of what he said are proved wrong. HD660 doesn replace anything HD600 for neutrality HD650 for smoothness and 660s for fast clarity imaging and tight bass.

Where did you buy them from??? I've been lurking at amazon.de for a while now .. Cheapest I've seen them was 390€ 😕 Got a pair of HD58X on my way from drop.com .. But I rather pick up the HD660S if I can get them at a reasonable pricetag, like you did.

@@mogensen84 the sound stage is not that wide for an open back headphone, but thats not a bad thing. They are very detailed, so I can hear the direction and the instruments very very well. Thats why im using these as gaming headphones as well. At the beginning they feel a bit uncomfortable, but now after a week they are not noticeable on my head. Idk how but they adapt to your head😂 For me they are even worth the full 500 or 420€ !

Bla-Bla-Bla-Bla. Another audiofool review with selfish opinion. But technical sience review show us the true!! U all can go to rtings and compare 58x vs 660s (they absolytly identicatl), and look at 59* series (not even close to 58x and 660s).

58X and 660s are identical. 58X has a foam behind the driver, if you remove that, they're the exact same. Both of them break-in quite slowly, i'd say 20+ hours at above normal volume and quite a bit longer if you use them at normal volume and a lot of the "metallic" sound is gone. You can EQ them a bit with Appo, drop 1.2db on 20, Not as punchy and warm in the trebble as 650 but much better than when they're fresh outta the box.
