@@mr_red13 That was my concern as well. The Sony XM line of headphones is hyped up so much by general consumers, but there is legitimate criticisms I have with the ear pads they use as well as the sound tuning of their headphones. Xm5 still has issues with both imo, but noise canceling is amazing so its overlooked since a bassy sound and short interval comfort is fine for many people Bose 700 are more comfy than any Sony, but still not amazing. Momentum 4s definitely look more long term comfy than even those. My personal decision is do I want the momentum 4s or the Bang and Olufsen H95 lol

I just got the M4s after owning Shure SE846 and Airpods Pro. The M4s has made everything else sound pretty bad in comparison even though I'm no stranger to an EQ. I don't know how to talk audiophile-speak, but there's nuance everywhere and everything is extremely enjoyable. The ANC more than enough to tune out my family while I'm at home.

I use my M4's on my PC, and the ANC is terrible - hardly blocks my family out at all, or the leaf-blower outside. Hell I can still hear the cooling fan from my 3d printer which is barely louder than a pc fan... If shops weren't so weird about returning headphones, I would take these back and try the XM5's in a heartbeat. I keep seeing everywhere though that they are great. Am I doing something wrong?? :/

In hindsight they’re pretty good actually. I had 3D printed adapters to make the cups deeper as they were touching my ears. It was my adapters that ruined the ANC. Removed them and they’re pretty good again. On-par with the pcx 350-ii I had before.

At the beggining Sennheiser will blow anyone away with the sound but in the end is a little too bassy, and is not that it has a lot of Bass, is more of extra Low frequencies that we don't hear in other headphones, in the end they became my daily drivers because of how the features work, they just work for me 100% and I came from Sony XM4s.

Ya, i'm testing a set now, and they def are more bass than XM5. But, it's also way more accurate than the XM5. And, I'd rater have the bass than not because I can just EQ down the bass. The XM5s also get both physically and acoustically fatiguing and warm. I listen all day using wired Beyerdynamic 900 Pro X, and neither the XM5 or 4s come even close to the the 900. But, still XM5 vs. 4s, I'd say 4s def. win SQ. A little low on SPL though

I tried the XM5 and after messing with the EQ you can make them sound good. The M4 is great sound wise better bass for sure, but the headband gives me a headache. There is not enough padding up top. It has this stretchy material that's soft, but its not enough. If you get a chance push you finger into it there isn't much there and you can feel the plastic bumps in the headband. The side of the band feels like wood. I was not impressed with the head band at all if you can't tell. I started looking for padding but gave up.

I agree. I've played around ALOT with the M4 and XM5 and while the M4 sound much better with the stock settings, after EQ'ing the XM5 the soundstage got just as good as the M4 from what I can tell with very slightly better instrument separation and vocals. They absolutely need that good EQ though

@Brice Rosa , so I got the m4's not long after posting that. The app to scale the degree of anc is nice, so you can have anc very low so it sounds like it is almost off. The active listening tap and the auto pause has been fantastic. Sound quality is what I would expect for sennheiser. For me the big thing was the xm5's ended up being uncomfortable. They are better for a slightly bigger head. The m4's are a little wide, but the wider headband makes up the difference. The anc on the xm5's was better, and I could have eq'd the shit out of them so they sounded how I wanted, but comfort won out.

@@NightAuracle thanks for the feedback. Do the m4s have a pressure like feeling with the anc turned down? Curious how that stacks vs the wm5. The pxc 550s I have do give that feeling when I turn on the anc so I only use it every so often.

@Brice Rosa they probably do, but I don't notice it anymore. On a normal day, I've worn both the pxc550 and m4 for 7-12 hours with no issues from the cabin pressure. However, that is a very individual thing, and I didn't wear the xm5's long enough to get a sense of any pressure.

It is so shitty that the Sennheiser Momentum 4 drops the sound quality while using USB-C cable and Mic. The Sennheiser PXC550-II can handle that easy. I think it is a bug in the firmware from the M4.

I bought the soundcore q45 and momentum 4 to see which one I liked and send back the other. The momentum 4 sounds better but aren't as comfortable. I also have to listen to them almost maxed out. The q45 app is lightyears ahead of the sennheiser app with a lot more customization. The q45 to me for the $100 vs $260 is a lot better buy, except for the fact that after 3 days the right speaker is crackling already in the q45... So both of them are going back. This Panasonic Technics A800 has very good sound and ANC and it's general volume and bass volume is much stronger and powerfull compared to Sony MX4 or Bose QC45. But to listen my favorite music genre electronic music and techno i prefer to use the Panasonic RB-M700B because they have somethning the A800 and other expensive head phones on the market does not have at the moment: A Bass reactor vibration system ! I really love the bass reactor vibration system very very very much !!!! It feels like you have a 2.1 subwoofer hifi system. Panasonic Technics A800, Sony MX4, Bose QC45 feels more like an 2.0 weak bass hifi system without any subwoofer. For a very very very noisy ambient or music without any bass (for example old music) the A800 is the best. So I change my headphones depending on the situation. I use public transportation and have a very noisy neighbor that is the reason I own the Technics A800 and the Bose QC45. But in general i enjoy music on my 3 pairs of Panasonic RB-M700B. I hope Panasonic will continue to offer and develop headphones with bass reactor vibration system because I can't listen to techno and electronic music on head phones without a bass reactor anymore. The sony Sony MDR-XB950N1 Extra Bass head phones from 2017 have a bass reactor vibration system (my first head phones i had with a bass vibration system) but the new Sony WHXB910NB Extra Bass from 2021 don't has a bass vibration system anymore imo.

BIG COMPARISON (New and old ones): * Panasonic Technics A800 (owner) vs * Sony MX4 (tested 7 days) vs * Bose QC45 (owner) vs * Panasonic RB-M700BE (owner 5x) vs * Sony MDR-XB950 (Ex-Owner) vs * Sony WHXB910N (tested) : Every headphone has its weaknesses and its strengths : The Panasonic Technics A800 has very good sound and ANC and it's general volume and bass volume is much stronger and powerfull compared to Sony MX4 or Bose QC45. MX4 and QC45 are pretty the same in sound and ANC. QC45 has better software than MX4. The A800 software is in the level of QC45. The ANC of the Panasonic Technics A800 is much better than on Bose QC45 (And a lot of people say the QC45 has a little bit better ANC than MX4, so that means A800 has to be the best ANC on market at the moment) only exeption heavy vibrations from steps or public transportation... The Panasonic (A800 & RB-M700B) ANC has problems with that... The ANC of the RB-M700B is worse but not that much worse than the others. When ANC is deactivated the RB-M700B has the best overall sound imo ! The RB-M700B is the only one you think you have a subwoofer ! That's because it has a spring vibration system (bass reaktor). To listen my favorite music (genre electronic music and techno) and war games with a lot of bassy explosions I prefer to use the Panasonic RB-M700B. I really love the bass reactor vibration system very very very much !!!! It is the only one that feels like you have a 2.1 subwoofer hifi system. On the others new on market you thnink you have a bass weak 2.0 system. Also the mids and highs are good. I have a total of 5x RB-700's (3x from warehouse 75-85€) to be sure i got great music hp for next 10 years. (I’m engineer i can replace batteries if storage at optimal voltage is not much enough). Because I live at to places I want minimum 4 head phones (you always need 2 when one is discharged take to other… permanent change…). So this matches nicely. I hope Panasonic will continue to offer and develop headphones with bass reactor vibration system because I can't listen to techno and electronic music on head phones without a bass reactor anymore. The Sony MDR-XB950N1 Extra Bass head phones from 2017 have a bass reactor vibration system (my first head phones i had with a bass vibration system) but the new Sony WHXB910N Extra Bass from 2021 don't has a bass vibration system anymore imo. I use public transportation and have a very very very permanent noisy neighbor that is the reason I needed something more than the RB-M700B. I use the Bose QC45 for public transportation and the Panasonic Technics A800 for watching TV or silent video games at home when the neighbour is very loud (the A800 can better reduce noises from neighboor than the QC 45, bassy step noises and others).

Hey, I purchased the Sennheiser M4 and I suddenly got extreme dermatitis around my ears. This has never happened to me before, however for the past 5 years I have been using the Sennhesier PXC 550 and Sony XM3. IT turns out that both the SHPXC550 and the Sony XM3 had fake leather, whereas Sennheiser M4 have real leather and the real leather cause an allergic reaction. For me it was terrible - just after a few hours I got red skin that was peeling of with blood and discharge. One week later - the skin is still healing. It turns out that in real leather the allergy is caused by dimethyl fumarate that is an anti-molding agent. The Sennhesier M4 are great and premium, but just not for me due to the health issue.

So guys i want to tell my big head friends my experience with this 3 Headphones. First i start with the technics. The technics have pretty big ear pads so its nice for people with big ears however i wouldnt recommend them for people with big heads. Obviously everyones head is different so your big head might not have this problem but i couldnt wear them for more than 5 minutes the headband was giving me a headache and it was unusable for me. The m4s, i only tried them in a store and i can say that they are a bit tinnier than the techinis size wise. I didnt wear them for long but i knew that i couldnt wear them for long either. However i have to admit one thing that made the technics experience more painfully for me was that the headband was pretty stiff, the m4s werent as stiff at least. I had the best experience with the xm5. The first time i wore them i really hated that small headband but after wearing them a couple more times i think its fine. I still think something like the xm4s are a better experience. The xm5 has bigger ear pads at least but sony shouldve made the headband at least a bit wider so the pressure is not at a small point. And i want to ask you guys, do you have any other recommandations? I really want to try out some headphones it is really hard for me to find a comfortable pair, thats why i am mostly using inears most of the time.

press and hold power to turn on/off headphones is most annoying and idiotic way to do the job . unfortunately many companies going that way instead of providing dedicated button or slider .

Why are you keep talking about the ANC? That isn’t really important. I’m a sound guy I’d be more focus on their sound quality.

Depends on the person. People value different things. I personally value ANC, good mics and decent enough sound, so the XM5's are my preferred choice out of the 3 (which I all tested). Do the M4's and A800's sound better than the XM5's? For me, yes they do, but with a bit of tweaking in Sony's app I can get the Sony's to sound to be "decent enough" to where other items (ie ANC, mics etc) take precedence.

@@rdeh1678 Mark levinson's n5909 is an absolute monster but the asking price is also way higher I don't think many people will go this far considering the fact that n5909 are pretty underrated for their insane sound quality.

I tried the momentum 4 and xm5 in-store today.. and to my surprise, the momentum 4 actually sound pretty shat compared to xm5… So now I’m stuck… I was really leaning towards sennheiser because of the longer battery life and they look better on my head. But maybe I should get the xm5 ahhh

I have had the sony xm5 and sennheiser momentum 4, and the momentum 4 has a wider soundstage better mids and vocals. Only the bass is kinda the same but if you wanna hear detail in your music sony does not as good of a job as the momentum 4.

Tried all 3. Technics for me for mainly comfort and a little better bass. Very disappointed in M4

Eric, comfort is exactly why I'm still using the Technics plus great sound quality.
