The thing about One Piece is that Oda writes backstories for most, if not all, characters that are of some import. Now not all backstories will be shown in the manga/anime due to limited pages, but the Editor for One Piece during Dressrosa found Senior Pinks backstory so tearjerking that he requested Oda to include it in the story for the readers. This is the reason why it is placed in that part of the story.

I honestly think that as an example in a vacuum, Senor Pink's backstory is the perfect way to describe how insane One Piece is when it comes to the most random characters. Show anyone who hasn't seen One Piece a picture of Senor Pink and they would think this guy is a joke character. Yet he actually has a completely reasonable justification for his looks while also having one of the most heartbreaking backstories for a genuine side character in a show with at least over 1000+ named characters. Think about it objectively for a second and you realize that it is absolutely insane how much you can get out of One Piece if one character of literally a thousand can have that impact in 2 episodes of backstory.

Fun fact: Oda does the backstory for nearly every character he makes. That's something that been hammered by his first editor so if you see a quirky character, there's probably a reason why they do the thinks they do. Anyways, Senior Pink's backstory wasn't meant to be shown but his current editor says it's to good not to show it

You can translate her name in many ways and I guess it was translated as Russian, but the way they wrote it in the Japanese version, it would be more appropriate to be translated as Lucien.

Reasons why the pacing sucks so much: 1. After Loguetown, the anime started catching up to the manga so they started slowing down the pacing and it works so they kept doing it. 2. Oda got so sick that Naruto's mangaka had to ask if he could draw some panels for him and ended up drawing one or two panels. 3. They didn't cover the cover story because the last time they did, it didn't do so well even though it would've probably be really good now 4. They didn't wanna do an ending song or use the abundance of extra materials to fill up the episode 5. Toei's animators are mostly union so they have a pretty good work environment compared to other studios 6. One piece is weekly and not seasonal

Yes, "roo-shi-anne", that's how you pronounce it, for them a Russian would be called roshia-jin "roh-shi-ah-gin". If you ever change a single letter, Japanese people will likely not understand you, as their language depends a lot on context and vowels. That's why many English speakers have such a hard time communicating, since they tend to change the pronunciation of vowels on instinct, when in fact it's just in very special cases where they change the sound, they have rules for that unlike in English.

I still feel that Senor Pink's backstory is 85% his fault, that he's a terrible person who lied to his wife the entire time they were together, and hypocritically grieves while still ruining the lives of hundreds of people without care. I know he's a fan favourite, and I get why, but I have zero empathy for the guy, and I generally cannot stand him. Have a wonderful day, everyone.

It's the whole point of his character. If he was just a nice person that shit happened to him he would've been rebecca. The most heartbreaking stories are the ones that happen because of the characters mistakes

Just from the comments, I can tell lots of people find his backstory sad, so it's probably effective for most people, but personally, all I felt was anger and vague disgust.

Everyone loving Senor Pink is super confusing to me. Lots of people try to use him dressing up like a baby to see her smile as some sort of redemptive act when it is just to make himself feel good while he continues to be a trash person and do the things he lied to his wife about. He is trash.
