Wow, I did not grow up with Lilacs, but I think I'll plant one or more after watching your wonderful inspiring video(s). Thank you! 👍

I love lilacs. I am learning that deer love them too (they nibble on the leaves and the bark) so plant them in an area where you can keep an eye on them.

@@newjerseygarden I planted 6 varieties last month in my fenced-in backyard, along with several Tulip Magnolia tress. They may not bloom next year, but eh? I'm giving them a try to shine in the backyard, plus I'll be adding several forever golden and emerald arborvitaes along the borders to add some Winter interest over time. I've got ornamental prairie grasses, some wildflower meadows and several David Austin climbing roses. I can see now how folk fall in love with the neverending process of gardening. The Prime movie 'The Beautiful Fantastic' which I watched this weekend...encaptured this passion so well. And, I planted several fruit trees to commemorate those in my life who have shared their love and memories with me, yet have moved on to a better place. Your video is great, so I bought a Sensation as well...and will prune after it blooms. I am looking forward to its scent. And, I am watering, yet we are cooling down for Christmas...and let it chill. 🙏👍🍃🌱🐛🦋💞🌺🌸💐🌻🌹🌼🌲🌳

This is lovely. I heard in your other video about your illness--I'm in northern NJ and I appreciate the reminder to be more careful. Wishing you the best of luck for your health. I enjoy your videos so thank you for sharing your garden and advice with us.

Thank you for all the pretty! 😍 I moved one of mine a number of years ago, too, and it has been sulking ever since... had good success with a rejuvenation prune on another one, though, so just go for it!
@newjerseygarden5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it seems they don't like being moved. I'll try rejuvenation pruning for sure. Thank you!

I love iliac and all the colors they come in. In our yard we have yellow,white,violet,purple,deep dark purple and blue. I really like the purple with white fringe you have it’s so beautiful and I think that’s the next one we’ll be getting. Your tree that’s suffering from shock and I would be to😂😂 have you tried fertilizer no nitrogen in it to help boost your roots growth in turn increases branches and leafy grow in the tree. Just a thought and by the way great video’s you are doing keep up the great work.🦋😎

Thank you! This video was made a few yrs ago so the tree that was in shock is fine now! I would love to get more lilac shrubs. I just got smaller Josie lilac shrubs last year.

To prune a lilac properly, take a third of the oldest wood down to the ground after it blooms...if you have a third to cut...if not, take one of the thickest, oldest stems down to the grond...thanks for the tour and hope this helps...TFS

Great examples of what to do and not do. Thank you for sharing. I have 1 itty bitty lilac, about 18 inches tall. 2 shoots, lol. I get foliage. It's on her 3rd Spring.

Hi Nana. Hopefully next spring you will get lots of blooms!

Very nice, somthing to help in your pruning, once your lilac is established never prune more than 1/3 of your shrub. Also remember the three D'S..dead,diseased and...? I forget the last one lol,as a rule of thumb when pruning also prune right after blooming is finished..hope this helps, happy gardening 👨🌾👨🌾

Wow it's beautiful! My lilac is only like two feet high l can't wait to get some beautiful blooms like yours. I have along way to go until it start blooming 😭😭😢.

Yes, they take awhile to produce blooms. I think mine didn't bloom until year 3, maybe 4. It's worth the wait!

Hi! Do you think Sensation Lilac can be grown in zone 9. It gets pretty hot in the Summer here and our soil is very clay, but This is one of my favorite plants and Lilacs and I really want to make it work! Any help would be very appreciated!
@newjerseygarden2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I am sorry but I think these types of lilacs can only be grown up to zone 7 because they need cold winters to flower. But look on the bright side - there are so many flowers that you can grow that I can't grow here in zone 6.
@newjerseygarden2 жыл бұрын
Hi Martylugo, I just found a lilac that can grow to zone 10, it's a Beach Party Lilac: www.springhillnursery.com/product/beach-party-lilac-duet?p=0439751&gclid=Cj0KCQjw0umSBhDrARIsAH7FCofiH1fY8fhTJ186xzLG_n1T3rD0RoTc8haG0wgionzB8Eg1J3MrEdIaAvH5EALw_wcB

Is it possible for them to bloom all spring and summer or can they not bloom again after spring?
@newjerseygarden2 жыл бұрын
Hi, these are not reblooming lilacs so they only bloom once in late April.

Which lilac is ideal to build a square compact hedge of 5 to 6 feet tall fast, covered by flowers from the bottom to the top? I am considering Miss Kim, dwarf Korean, boomerang... please advise. Thanks
@newjerseygarden2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I would recommend Miss Kim. I have experience pruning this plant in a private garden I used to work at. It grows very fast.

I've read that they don't like acidic soil which here in NJ we're known to have. Have you had any issues with this? Do you add lime at all?
@newjerseygarden4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't add lime to my soil. I wasn't aware that they don't like acidic soil. I find it interesting that some years the blooms are much better than others and I think it might have to do with how cold the winter gets each year.

Did the deer give you any trouble ?
@newjerseygarden2 жыл бұрын
The deer have nibbled on my new lilac seedlings but after these are established, the deer leave them alone.
