As a former varsity wrestling captain, I can relate to the whole comfort of being in the discomfort. Lol I do sweat ceremonies now and again, which to me is a whole new level of sweating. But I did wrestling to prove my dad wrong since he thought I would quit within the first week (which was tempting), but it did give me a renewed sense of capability. I endured that crazy training and actually didn't give up, causing me to join cross country, track, and swim merely to help my endurance in wrestling and it carried over in situations in my adult life. Inclined me to be athletic and aware of my health, physically and mentally. Wrestling teams are a thing, but you're out there on the mat by yourself. Helped me with working under pressure and all that, so I'm forever grateful my dad recommended the sport to me. Side kick sidenote: (Spending so much time in wrestling also taught me how much more I gotta work on my striking. Muscle memory is hard to shake off. Lol)

Ultimately the intended application of JKD is to buy enough time (via groin/eyes target, destructions of limbs, takedowns) to run the hell away if at all possible, from there if running isn't a choice then it mostly turns into dirty boxing. MMA is directly in service of trying to get a knock out or submission in order to win a judged, reffed fight.
