Taekwondo guy here lol we use the hook kick to pull the hands down for the jab cross all the time. When I teach the hook kick to beginners, that’s always part of the explanation of why you might use it. PS try throwing a turn hook kick with your back leg a few times… You’ll find it lands pretty often 😉

I've also been taught this combo with more of a kakato geri (axe kick type of kick) in kyokushin karate, knowing GSP has a kyokushin background, i'd say it's possible he got it from there

6:50 to defend safe space karate aka tkd, i also never really thought rear leg hook kicks would work, thought they were more for show until very recently. i've been finding a lot of success throwing them in sparring by setting them up with low kicks. after about 2 low kicks, the opponent anticipates blocking their left side and then the hook kick comes around and hits them on the other side of the face

Hook kick to 1-2 is quintessentially flow. The joker in the stack, if you will, that can line up "your other stuff", as Mike would say. Try, Hook,1-2, R-Knee, southpaw, jab, left thai roundhouse.

@7:17, instead of planting your foot, (as you land the right hand, or not land it, be doing this) roll your right foot like you are about to sprint, and whether the R-knee or teep lands or not, load the hips to snap back. A hook would suffice as well. Range depending. The idea is to make the range that you want. So, Ideally, Hook, 1-2, R-Teep, Jab(for ranging), Left Roundhouse, ...or sweeeeeep. As you lock n load hips, for a right hand back across the other way.

So Seth, with all the respect I have for you, your French accent needs much work! (It sucks!😂). Oh yeah and clearly you've never rolled/trained with Georges... He has always been this generous. I remember being a lowly white belt when GSP was a god (actually a BJJ blue belt)... he would take the time to roll with everyone as to try various technics on different body types and experience levels to evaluate his proficiency with whatever technic he was toying with at that moment. Very gentlemanly and always safe with his training partner. One of my greatess claim to fame; being tapped by Georges before anyone ever knew him!

I assume they're saying it, knowing full well that doesn't mean shit, and they're saying it to be funny, intentionally. So when people take it seriously I don't know if I'm dumb, or they are.

@@OptimusSledge I don't know how that works officially in different martial arts, all I know is that if you don't practice regularly you'll forget everything you learned. It doesn't apply only to people who trained enough for it to become second nature for them, because in stressful environment you fall back to what you trained for, but only if you trained it enough

I'm just curious as to how it officially works in martial arts, and also the etiquette of it. Is it bad form to claim you are a rank when you attained it a long time ago and haven't trained since? How long can you go before you're not really a whatever belt any more?

@@OptimusSledge It depends on a specific martial art, an Aikido club nearby me demands that you participate in tournaments like once or twice a year to keep your rank, but I'm unsure about other ranked martial arts and I believe that it depends on where it's located.
