While I agree with the idea of having hollow points for defense is the best option. People shouldn’t be afraid of using FMJ ammo, military uses it and it’s been doing the job for years. If you can’t afford hollow points get Full metal jacket ammo it’s better than going without anything
@chrlsraines Жыл бұрын
While yes hollow points are better for energy transfer or should I say transfer more energy on target. That’s NOT the only consideration for using them for self defense ammo. I use Frangible Hollow Points. And I chose them to help avoid over penetration in public which is where I’m most likely to actually engage with my side arm. I’m more likely to engage an intruder at home with my carbine. I am focusing on the possible legal ramifications following a self defense shooting while in public. Yes I have no problem using FMJs ball ammo any other time and have most of my spare mags loaded with them. And stock FMJ for long term storage and use, they are much more affordable. Like half the cost of my Frangible Hollow Points.

Situational awareness. Head on a swivel. Yeah, certainly there are pros to concealed, but sometimes it's just more comfortable to slap on a OWB with retention, and roll out the door. Just pay attention, be aware of who's around, read body language. I bet most people that even conceal carry aren't very situationally aware, or read and observe people, and their placement to them.

As a firearms instructor, red dot sights on a pistol make a lot of shooters lazy. Many rely on the red dot and less on the fundamentals of pistol shooting. Things like sight picture, sight alignment, trigger press, follow through, ect, often get forgotten or neglected with the use of a red dot. I have nothing against red dot sights if the fundamentals are used in conjunction with them. I would say if your going to run a red dot on your pistol, train with the red dot AND train without it. Don't forget to train with irons just as often as you do with the red dot.

I agree, HOLSTER selection is KEY when considering to and how to carry. I prefer the TRex Arms Sidecar w spare mag attachment when I carry appendix. If I carry 4 o’clock then a formed leather holster is ideal. If I carry 3 o’clock I use a polymer holster w a manual release button for retention. If at the range it’s a Safariland ALS w the thumb release all day. In my truck I have multiple “mounted” holsters for ease of access and secure carry when carrying off body. In the center console I have a mounted polymer friction retention holster (I only need it to secure the weapon and the trigger w the full trigger guard). Under the steering wheel dash mounted I have another retention holster for quick ease of access. Otherwise I carry on body (sometimes for comfort you just want to carry off body in your vehicle).

My Rule for minimum ammo amounts for storage is: A MINIMUM of 1000 rounds per “GUN” not per caliber. Example: if I have 5 AR15’s in .556 (1 for every member of the family + a spare) then I NEED a minimum of 5000 rounds of .556 to feel adequate. If you have 4 people using the same caliber it will go extremely fast if it’s only 1000 rounds per caliber. That breaks down to 200 rounds per rifle if you stocked per caliber instead of per rifle! Every member of my family “carries”, we have a 9mm carry, a total of 4 ppl including myself live in the house (all adults (3 of my grown children)). I have both a G17 & a G19. My Daughter’s carry is an FN FNS9 it will fit a G19 holster but that’s the end of comparability. It has 17 rounds mags but will not take Glock mags. If I were to use only G17 mags they would work in BOTH my carry guns. Anyways if I ONLY stocked 1000 rounds of 9mm ammo we’d be in bad shape real quick with 4 ppl using from that stock. So stock whatever your MINIMUM number is for you PER GUN instead of per caliber…

Do you have a recommendation for a lever-action go-to rifle? model, caliber? Sadly, semi-automatic rifles are not an option in my country (very strict gun laws)
@cthulhu66972 жыл бұрын
+JP H As far as lever action guns, I really like my Winchester 30-30 carbine. I inherited the gun from my Grandfather so I've been shooting it since I was a kid. It's a fast, easy handling little carbine with a good, strong round that has about the same power as the 7.62x39mm ( the AK-47 round ). If I couldn't own semi-auto rifles, that gun would probably be what I'd use as a lever action gun. What country do you live in? Depending on where you live, many old WW2 bolt-action rifles can be had in good collection for nice prices ( tho they have been getting expensive here in the U.S. for some reason ). Rifles like the 8mm German Mauser K98, British .303 Enfield, Russian Mosin Nagant ( 7.62x54R ), U.S Springfield Model 1903 and model 1917 ( both chambered in .30-06 ), etc.... are powerful, accurate, reliable, and make good choices that will serve you well for countries where civilians can't own semi-auto rifles

At about 48 seconds in, Robbie's "gang signs" are hilarious. And Sootch, how did you get somebody to give you 10,000 rounds of ammo to test and review a weapons light? You must be a smooth-talking dude ;) ! Okay, so 5 guns for societal collapse huh? I already own what I'd bring if I had to bug out with 5 guns. Man though, it would hurt to leave most of my guns at my house that I don't want to bug out from in the 1st place, would much rather stock way up on EVERYTHING, fortify, bunker in and defend until I die or the craziness returns all back to good. So my 5 guns would be: Main pistol is Glock 21 .45ACP, backup pistol is Glock 23 .40 Caliber, main, go-to rifle is 1 of my AKMs 7.62x39mm ( probably the MAK 90 ), combination DMR and battle rifle ( especially when 7.62X39mm dries up ) is one of my 2 .308 battle rifles ( CETME and FAL. Both are good and I can mount a scope on both. If pressed, it would probably be the FAL. If it could be something I don't own, it would be a SOCOM 16 ), and Mossberg 500 .12 gauge pump-action shotgun. I totally agree with you about mags. My general rule of thumb is at least ( bare-bones combat load ) 6 EXTRA ( plus the one in the gun ) mags for each mag-fed pistol and at least 10 extra mags for every mag-fed rifle. To carry everything I'd probably use a chest rig and pistol belt. Among my chest rigs and tac vests I have a couple of old RACK Vests that I picked up cheap years ago because they're 3 color desert camo old. I have set one up for AK and I'm in the process of setting up the second for .308. I guess I would put the 6 double mag pouches on the .308 rig at the top of my ruck, and wear the vest set up for AK.. I use regular military pistol belts

For a grid down situation, I think I'd actually prefer a double barrel to a pump gun. I'm going to use it for hunting game and birds more than home defence, especially with an AR around that I can run a short barrel and suppressor on, and a side-by-side with exposed hammers is pretty much the simplest and most reliable shotgun you can get. It can also run any ammo that fits into the barrel including metal body shells, works with blackpowder if you want to reload ammo, and is the easiest to repair too.

I absolutely agree about the NATO round caliber selection for the very same reasons. NATO caliber is also “widely” used in Law Enforcement as well. So the caliber is easier to find on the shelf, more commonly used in the civilian market, used by OUR military AND National Guard, used by most Law Enforcement. So when SHTF “battlefield pickup” is actually viable. Find those dead cops on the side of the road hey they’ve got 9mm on them and more likely than not they’re using Glock so can actually use the mags as well (don’t have to empty and load rounds into my own mags). Same goes for .556 and yes .308! Oh the neighbors down the road didn’t make it but they’ve got 9mm or .556 or even .308. BTW I'm surprised the two of you don't know that most magazines are NOT manufactured by the firearms company. Some other company makes them for the mfg. Too expensive specialized equipment to buy.

You should never open carry. There's no upside to it. Additionally, .45acp only has more stopping power if you're talking ball ammo. There are too many studies of actual world shooting that shows 9mm and 45acp have the same percentage of one-shot stops.

Can't have a magazine over 10 rounds in my communist state anymore. So 8 rounds of .45 is better than 10 rounds of .9mm. Plus 2 or 3 extra mags on the side.

lost all credibility when they talked about racking a shotgun in a home defense scenario. don't base your firearms knowledge on movies....

What’s nuts about enjoying shooting sports, having a means to put meat on a table, but most importantly, being able to provide defense for you, your family, and your country of need be. Do you think Russia would have thought twice about Ukraine if a large percentage of the population was armed and trained?

Trump people love everyone except those people beating them with bike locks, taking their flags, silencing their speech or voting several times for deconstructist leftists. Leftists only love anyone that thinks like themselves or is afraid to say they don't. God bless all of us.

I absolutely love my 1911 Commander .45 acp. But I carry and love my G19 clone even more. Because a standard G19 mag holds 15 rnds or I can slap a 17 rnd G17 mag in it or I can add a mag extension and hold 20 rnds in a G19 mag w a mag extender. And still comfortably conceal carry it.
