I’m old af and grew up with 70’s rock and I thought they would be too poppy for me. Yes, a few of their songs are not my thing, but what drew me in is their lyrics and message. I’m looking for something deeper at this point in my life. They are really funny too and made me laugh at a time in my life I had nothing to be happy about. I'm similar and thought BTS would be too poppy ... until I listened. There were some songs that I deffinitely thought were not for me - much too poppy and silly - Anpanman and Gogo : clearly good fun, and well crafted, but ... what? Then I looked into the meaning and reasons for those songs - now, they make me cry at the same time as bop! It seems to be just impossible for BTS to produce any song that is superficial or just light. BTS are themselves delightfully silly and laugh at themselves and each other. but their music while it sounds light, upbeat and sometimes silly, is very serious.

This MV has so many easter eggs. One of my favorites is the “IM FINE” written on the the glass window. And when you’re looking from the inside you’ll read it as “SAVE ME”… which is so damn true that sometimes you say to yourself and other people that you’re fine, but inside you just really wanted to be saved. For context this song is the feature track in the album Love Yourself:Tear. They have released their albums with themes as sets. So this era was Love Yourself and about the band themselves exploring the idea of love in three albums with three aspects. First was the album Love Yourself:Her, when love is new and exciting and feels destined. Second was LY:Tear when love turns toxic and brings tears and tears you apart. When we wear masks and change ourselves in bad ways (we can argue a lot but one of their top 2 or 3 albums of theirs IMO). It wraps up with the third album Love Yourself: Answer, the answer is to learn to love yourself. It’s a beautiful conclusion the members themselves shared they learned how important self love is. It’s one of the most spectacular series of albums they produced in conjunction with UNICEF and the end childhood violence campaign #loveyourself and profits from all 3 albums went to the campaign. I can’t say enough about how deep and like a novel or sort of conversation they made the 3. Each album has an intro track that is a solo that sets the tone for the feature track. Also love here isnt just romantic but also love (or toxic love) of family, friends, and self. They dance in this as marionettes and live have stunning extended puppet dance they did when they did it live at Asian award shows. FYI the Mv had very little CGi it’s almost all real sets they built yes they used real fire and water there is a behind the scenes if you want to see the sets and how they film. And there is an official extended version of the Fake Love MV to the rock version of the song. 💜💜💜 I can see how deeply this song hit you I might suggest you watch Epiphany the solo song by Jin (ie the Epiphany is you must love yourself) or Love Yourself Answer the song, they make me feel better after this one.

Fake Love is from BTS's Love Yourself arch. For a lot of BTS's albums they follow certain concepts, for this one it was the exploration of leaving behind others expectations of you and accepting who you are. I would recommend listening to the whole series, only because BTS tell their story and growth through their music and you get better understandings of who these guys are as people and artists when you put all of those pieces together. (listening to every album from the begging of their career will of course give you more) And on a side note the MV for Fake Love is a part of a fictional storyline called the Bangtan Universe that follows a group of friends as they cope with their own individual hardships. It's told in various music videos, short films, books, a Webtoon and mobile game. It's a compelling plot. If you ever wanted to look into it I would recommend avoiding any explanation videos until you've had a chance to experience most of it on your own.

You can start with colour coded lyrics where a member’s picture lights up when they are singing so you can start learning to differentiate their voices as well. The only problem with colour coded videos is that the translations are not usually the best and they can sometimes make mistakes on who is singing. If you want, you can do both the lyric video and the live performance in the same video. Also if you really want to know the best translation for their songs you should go to a website called doolset which also gives commentary to explain their wordplay and cultural references. You can also check out the live performances of the music videos songs you have watched. You can just ask ARMY in the community tab and we can recommend the one we think is best. Apart from that, other BTS content you can try are dance practice videos (which are just choreography videos in their dance studio and the members are just dancing). These are really good if you wanna just focus on the choreography and see what it looks like without all the extra stuff a music video has. All of their title tracks (most promoted songs) have dance practices as they always have choreography so for the ones you’ve listened to so far: Dynamite Butter Black swan Fake love They all have dance practices so if you wanna see just the choreography then you can check them out. Sorry this has been like superrrr long 😂😂 💜💜 thank you so much for your amazing reactions so far and Borahae💜 Ps if you feel overwhelmed by how much content there is you can always try to do a poll on some songs (or whatever kind of BTS content there is) where ARMY can choose for you💜

Since this theme resonates with you guys, BTS has a 3 album series that's all about this. The albums are Love Yourself: Her, Love Yourself: Tear, and Love Yourself: Answer. Fake Love is the title song from Love Yourself: Tear. Love Yourself: Answer has a solo song from Jin called Epiphany which is the "answer" to Fake Love. Epiphany has an MV too, but I recommend watching a live performance from Jin instead. You can find many on KZbin with English subs. When you become more familiar with their work, you will see the theme of wearing masks and learning to be true to yourself comes up a lot. at the end of the day, i choose to be disliked for who i am than be loved for who i'm not. that's why the line on this song that says "i grew a flower that can't be bloomed in a dream that can't come true" hits home. in my youth and naivete, i once focused on pleasing people i love (not just in romance) and i got my heart broken cos i've come to realize that i no longer knew who i really am. it's true what septa said - it's indeed "suffocating." fake love is such a wonderful song and i'm glad you guys picked up on its message. normally, a song like this would make one look at another person who's given them "fake love, then the song turns out to be one of bitterness and heartbreak. however, with bts' fake love, they turned it around and inspired people to be introspective... cos it's true... there are many circumstances when one receives fake love and blames the other but upon further pondering and consideration, the fake love given is a mere result due to the determination to satisfy another. hence, whether it be unconsciously or not, one portrays their idea of perfection and loved for that "fakeness." makes me want to listen to your song supernova too. 💜

The song can be interpreted in many ways. As for me, it somehow reminds me of what 'Idol life' is like. They have to put up a front and may display an entirely different personality on cam. Seokjin for example is an introvert and during the early years of their career, he was seen by the members as 'awkward'. He also mentioned that he likes to appear jolly to make people laugh. I sometimes feel bad for him for doing so. It must be exhausting for him. Either way, this other side of him helped them get out of awkward situations.

They really prove that you can of course be "commercial" or make pop songs or hip hop song that are catchy and still JAMP PACK the songs with a lot of meaning. They are really helping the paradigm shift in not only that music doesn't have to be in English or come from the West, but also about how music is made, which instruments you can use (apparently there's some sounds music producers stay away from if they're not trendy), that "boy bands" doesn't have to be all about soppy heartbreak songs and corny dance moves, but can actually be intelligent music with KILLER performances. BTW. you're still at the tip of the tip of the iceberg haha. Once you discover how it's all interconnected + find the BU. I mean... there's no going back. BTS is a new music experience bc I've never seen anyone before them do. Can't wait for you guys to watch Spring Day and the explanation video by Italian ARMY... however, maybe that might actually be too much for you guys. Some reactors felt horrible weeks after and decided not to upload it bc it was too much. So don't feel pressured to do it. It's a stunning and beautiful piece of music too - the meaning behind the music video breaks my heart, but I also feel like it's important to watch. My suggestion: maybe do it later on and take some time to talk with us ARMYs to see if you'd be up for it or not. Keep being you! You're such wonderful reactors and I really really enjoy watching your reactions.

Thanks for your reaction 🙏 This song can be very emotional for some people and I saw a few reactors crying. I hope that everything is fine. 💜 13:28 I can‘t disagree. I heard of those stereotypes as a metal and rock listener myself.😉 Edit: 16:30 The art with the arms reminds me of the Japanese pictoral maxim of “Three Wise Monkeys“: who sees no evil, who hears no evil, who speaks no evil (🙈🙉🙊) If you watch closely, they even incorporated these movements in their dance. I knew BTS since 2016 because of their choreographies due to my dancing, but this song was the turning point for me to join the fandom. I love the unusual structure of the song, the layering, the lyrics, the meaning, the guitars, the dancing and the connection of the MV to their previous ones. Especially after finding out that the song was even more layered than I thought considering the lyrics and the MV.

Choreo - they are dancing like marionettes (puppets of fake love). This song is also pivotal in their ongoing BTS universe story line and the psychological concepts of Carl Jung - facing your Ego, Persona and Shadow which are all parts of who you are as a human being. It’s a masterpiece.

As a person that likes rock/metal as well, Fake Love was my first comeback as a BTS fan and I've been an ARMY for more than 4 years and it still remains my favorite comeback. Although it wasn't the song that made me an ARMY since it was released after I joined the fandom, it still holds a big place in my heart and it's so unique and 'darker'. I'm anticipating a lot your future reactions. I've been honestly been binging your reactions today and yesterday and after everything I can't not subscribe, you guys are great!

The creativity and thought behind the order of songs in each album is brilliant as well as their Bangtan Universe they created. Thank you for a great reaction! 💜

One of my favorite lines from this song is, "I grew a flower that can't be bloomed in a dream that can't come true", that line actually made me think and start establishing boundaries in a lot of my relationships. I made myself more clear on who I was, what I was willing to do and what I wasn't, because the idea of setting myself up for failure from the beginning crashed into me like a hurricane ( not to mention it helped me with a toxic person in my life that i hadn't been able to realize how much that person was hurting me and i didnt have to be around them just because i loved them) I remember listening to it and recalling the lyrics and balling like a little kid. It was the first time i realized loving someone can hurt you and that conforming to other peoples needs and wants at my own expense instead of being my own person isn't me showing I love them or that that i care for myself. It didn't hit me when it came out, but right when I needed it to. I lost a couple friends and important people but like you said the ones who were meant to stay did. My other favorite line is, "I wish love was as perfect as love itself", because it really is like that, you wish that was true but it isn't and in order for it to not destroy you have to admit it's not. This album has a special place in my heart, for helping me and getting me through some tough things. BTS are very great with lyrics and have a way of making you feel and I haven't encountered many other artists that really make me confront myself, but also not be too harsh on myself at the same time. They have been helping me learn to love and like who I am and they have my love and support because of it. Anyway I love these guys and they're lyrics are great I definitely recommend reading their lyrics separately doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/ Is the best place to do that because there are some really cool stuff you can miss because of the language difference and this place does a great job of explaining as much as they can. Sorry for rambling have a good day!!

I love how Soar said this is not the usual type or genre of music he listens to. So many BTS fans say the same, the are so unique in that their lyrics visuals and dancing pull you in. I really got interested in rap for the first time with BTS. You will see-you can listen to 10 different BTS songs of 10 different genres. They have also evolved over the years their sound and look has evolved thanks to the contributions of the members themselves and their support teams. Individually they continue to work hard to improve themselves- for example Jungkook learned House dance and Jimin took more vocal lessons over their break this winter. They are so humble and kind.

I love that you pointed out that they're not just dancing and that their choreos are an extension of their artistry. And you were correct! "Making yourself into a perfect dolls out of lies" - the choreo references to marionette dolls! See how they hit a move with so much intensity then go limp? It ties up with the main theme of how it's wrong to let other's expectations control you. I just thought it was really cool how you catch these things. Great vid! This is why I tell my daughters to always be themselves. It may not attract who they think they want, but will make a relationship easier when they do find the right one, because they won’t have to change. Another point I always make with them is that they have to learn to make themselves happy. It’s not the job of their partner; and you don’t want it to be. Because if you need them to make you happy, then they have the power to take your happiness away. And it’s a lot of pressure on them to be responsible for others happiness. If we each do the work to be happy ourselves, relationships are so much easier on both people.

Of course, I still love watching BTS MVs and listening to their music, but the first few times consuming that content is an indescribable experience that can’t be repeated. Which is why I love watching reactors, because I love seeing how others are impacted by their art. not exactly related to the topic of the song and video but this title track and album came out a little over a month after my father passed away so it always makes me emotional. i had already lost my mother years earlier and had been in therapy for 4 years after that. when my dad passed i had already moved on from grief therapy and tried to utilize the tools i learned there. still i needed an outlet for my immense pain and a few online acquaintances had discussed the healing effects of bts' music. i became a fan shortly after my father's death and this song was on the first new album to be released after becoming army to say i understand the emotions it can pull from you is an understatement. thank you for your honest emotions and thoughts. stay blessed.

Their songs can be interpreted in numerous ways and they always encourage fans and listeners to draw their own conclusions beyond their original intention behind a piece. For Fake Love, seeing how it’s part of Love Yourself: Tear (the second album of their Love Yourself trilogy; and my favourite album -which sounds like you might enjoy it as well-, it's a masterpiece and if you listen to the three albums one after the other it paints the most beautiful story... I HIGHLY recommend you do this with BTS' albums), it talks about how the person in the relationship is beginning to realise how they’ve changed themselves to fit what (they believe) their partner wants, effectively erasing themselves and putting up a façade just to keep the relationship alive. They realise how a love based on lies is fake and how both of them created something that doesn’t actually exist. In the end, it ties in with the series in that not loving oneself leads people to be willing to change themselves at their core if it means people will love them because they believe themselves to be unlovable as they are or believe they have to be a certain way to be loved. This MV is also part of what we know to be the BU (Bangtan Universe, BTS Universe), which is a series of MVs, webtoons, games, notes, interviews, and more that collectively tell a fictional story. Like everything BTS creates, it's very complex and difficult to put together haha I highly recommend you watch explanation videos if you ever want to delve into the BU. BTS' B-sides are actually as good and sometimes even better than their title tracks and for the Love Yourself series this is especially true, if you want songs that might break your heart in the best way possible, I HIGHLY suggest The Truth Untold, Louder Than Bombs, Whalien 52, Intro: Singularity, Paradise, We are Bulletproof: The Eternal, Magic Shop, Mikrokosmos, Blue & Grey, Spring Day, Answer: Love Myself, Epiphany, Epilogue: Young Forever, Lie, Stigma, Let Go, Crystal Snow, Outro: Never Mind, Friends, Save Me, Pied Piper, Stay Gold, Interlude: Shadow, Trivia: Love, Born Singer, Jamais Vu, House of Cards, Sea, Moving On, Outro: Tear, Dead Leaves.... It's a lot but BTS have no bad song. And this is coming from a J-rock, Visual-kei, folk metal, punk fan ahahaha And from their solo projects: Moonchild, everythingoes (by RM). People, The Last, Moonlight (by Agust D). Blue side (by J-hope). Abyss, Yours (by Jin). Still With You , Stay Alive(by Jungkook). Promise & With You (by Jimin). Scenery & Sweet Night (by V). Also, please don't worry about crying! It's quite normal to cry after something makes us feel. ARMY is a weepy bunch! Haha

It is really refreshing to see so opened minded people reacting to bts. The fact that you are also artists and understand the artistic and deep meaning behind this song is simply great. As you probably were told by fellow armys, this song belongs to the BU (Bangtan Universe) but you don't need to reacts to all of it to understand it. It is common for people who do reactions to center on the romantic meaning regarding relationships but you actually got the deeper meaning within. Wich is highly appreciated. About the metalhead community I am PRETTY SURE, that is one of the most loving and caring people in the world, I got to discover them in high school and I was immediately accepted, I was never judged and they helped me to grow confident in my passions and hobbies. I really thought I left a comment earlier. LOL. I really enjoyed your raw reaction. This song comes from their 2018 Love Yourself: Tear album, which now has become my favorite. I remember listening to this album with my daughter when this came out, and I didn't even bother checking out the lyrics, thinking this is a typical boy band album. How wrong was I? I've been so impressed that these young men create concept albums that weave a story/theme together that reflect themselves but at the same time allow listeners to find meaning and connection to the songs. I've heard countless times that BTS finds you when you need them the most. This is absolutely true for me. It was the song, Spring Day, that did it for me, as it helped me begin a grieving process. This song, as you both touched on, is something we can all connect with. Everyone of us has experienced molding who we are to others' expectations and how devasting that can be. And Septa, don't ever feel bad for crying reacting to a song. That's why I love music - it makes us feel. I've cried myself listening to many BTS songs. I look forward to your next reaction.

I was a metalhead for like 10+ years... (I'm 30) I listened to everything from like Classic Rock, Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal etc. I was even part of a Black Metal band for a while as a vocalist. But since like 2 years (basically since the start of the pandemic) I have been listening to BTS almost exclusively... They really saved my mental health during some of worst times of the pandemic and I'm so grateful for that. I just kept listening to their music and watched videos and I was ok, more or less. I don't know how they did it but it's like they put a spell on me or something, I don't understand it either. I'm obsessed and it's a little crazy. But I'm happier, so I don't care, lol. And this type of music usually isn't my cup of tea either but if it's as good and meaningful as BTS, I guess I'm ok with it.

The backdrop with the arms you are talking about signifies not to see bad, not to hear bad, not to talk bad (english ain't my first language so oopsie), which is also depicted in their dance when the chorus comes by covering their eyes, mouth and ears, it signifies ignorance of anything bad happening to yourself ( while in being in love that is fake, in this context). They use a lot of symbolism in their music vedios and dance moves, it's very visually pleasing. Lots of love

The best part of BTS songs is their lyrics! It doesn't matter if is a dance song , a fillings song or a clap back song the lyrics are so well thought out that is a must, we owe it to ourselves to investigate the translation (if like me you don't know korean) is totally worth it (most of all if the song moves you even before you know the translation)

That's the first MV I ever saw from BTS, my first contact with them 💜 I always love when someone can see other interpretations of this song beyond "Oh, it's about a romantic relationship". Not that it's wrong, of course. I went to watch Supernova as well, loved it!

BTS's camera people are definitely much appreciated. They are masters of their game. We are very spoiled by them, too. When BTS are at music shows or awards' shows and we have to sit through other camera people, it is glaringly obvious and painful. Many of the behind the scenes shots will let you see their work better. Especially Save Me , which is a one shot video. After you watch the Save Me MV you must watch the behind the scenes.
