My favorite image was @ 3:08 of the little girl praying at a shrine of Mary. It used to be that all churches had these shrines on the 'Mary side,' which is left of the altar. There people could come and pour their hearts out to their Mother. Very intimate and sweet. There would be a decent-sized statue of Our Lady of Grace, or some other image of Our Lady that inspired devotion. There were candles and flowers and a ceiling light that was aimed at her face to facilitate that feeling that she was "turning her eyes of mercy" towards the person kneeling there in front of her. I just don't see how a parish can do without this aid to prayer. Surely, many graces are lost to those people whose parishes do not have a proper Mary altar. After all, She is "Our life, our sweetness, and our hope."

I don't disagree that in mental prayer it is helpful to make a resolution in a traditional formulae but I do disagree with the statement that prayer should be productive, or that prayer should be subordinated to action. This to me reinforces the heresy of activism. Action should be subordinated to contemplation rather than the other way around.

Hi All. Can you recommend books on meditation?
@MaryKane-qv5vz9 ай бұрын
Women, like St. Teresa of Avila, Catherine of Sienna, etc , were great because they spent so very much time on their knees, (praying). St. (Mother) Teresa of Calcutta said "her secret was simple ... she prayed." Do you (especially women) want power in the Church so that things can be "changed"? Then close the door of your house (and soul) and get down on your knees where ONLY the Eternal Father sees you and souls will be saved and grace won for the Church to be reformed. Souls are not saved just by unending committee meetings.

I have yet to get an answer to this. I have asked many different places with vague answers. So I am asking here. IF THE ROSARY IS SAID PROPERLY...meaning, while praying the vocal prayers, meditating as well as one can on the mystery - does this fulfill the condition of "mental prayer"?
@TNt-vc2xs4 жыл бұрын
Forgive me, I may give another vague answer, but wanted to try. I think what you asked would fulfill part of mental prayer, since your “meditating” on the rosary, not just going through the motions. And if it is God’s Will in your life and how or what He wants to do, or where He wants to take you in this way of prayer, if you allow the Spirit’s guidance. Do you set daily resolutions, to work on and grow in virtue, rule out defects and vices each time you say the rosary? I think that is a big part of mental prayer. Also, have you listened to Fr Chad Ripperger talk on the 9 levels of prayer?? When persevering through mental prayer, one can (with God’s grace, All Glory to God of course) strengthen their will to conform it to God’s Will, begin to eliminate venial sin, grow in virtue and move into infused contemplation with God. This is what we are created for, this way of growing and moving through prayer is the closest to the Beatific Vision we can come on earth, only by God’s Grace. Sooo much more to what I’m saying in the 9 levels of prayer. Or by looking into the 3 stages of Interior Life: Purgative, Illuminative, and Unitive Ways.
@timsuter42254 жыл бұрын
@@TNt-vc2xs thank you. I do make resolutions daily. I begin the morning with the Angelus - daily consecration to the Three Hearts - among other prayers which serve as my daily offering of intentions for the rosaries I will pray each day. I try very hard to get 3 in - traditional and 4 (Luminous) in when I have time or when it's Thursday which I pray first anyway. For each mystery I pray the Precious Blood of healing - for mentally physically and spiritually healing the wounds I have caused to ourself, to others, or others have caused to us - freeing us from any evil spirits infecting those wounds with vices, sending them to the foot of Jesus's Cross where he may judge them as he sees fit - so that we can build the virtues associated with each mystery to build the Kingdom of God in our hearts and in the lives around us....so we can be reasonably happy in this life - all so we can die a happy death to be supremely happy with God forever in heaven. Each mystery then is an attempted - I have ADHD so it's hard - focus as to how each mystery can bring this about in our lives. So I hope I am working through the 3 levels of the spiritual life - and banging away through the 9 levels as well. I am nothing - my attempts in all that I do is nothing - without God adding merit to them.

What is mean by St. Padre pio's quote who dont pray is damned , salvation is not by our prayers , right?
@igrim47774 жыл бұрын
Padre Pio is not speaking dogmatically, he is making an observation: those who pray have faith and are saved; those whose do not pray lack faith and are damned. Implicit in his statement is the exhortation to pray incessantly. Keep the Holy Name constantly upon one's lips and in one's heart and mind to magnify faith and avoid sin.

We cannot be saved without a love for God. We cannot love that which we do not know. To love God, we must know Him. To know God, we MUST pray. So, it is reasonable to say that if we do not pray, we will not be saved. Recall the condemning words of Christ, “Depart from me. For I never knew you.” We must pray!
@christfollower57134 жыл бұрын
@@matthewchrisman7196 depends which kind of prayer u mean , the saying of Jesus "that we should pray always and not to faint" if u applied it literaly as the prayer when u stand and closing your eyes and talking to God , then u can never do anything except it , so is Jesus talking about the prayer time , we should do.it all the time? We can then never work or do anything , it is meant the heart and mind be in connection to God which is more applicable and logical , so maybe St Pio meant that when the heart and mind is void of God then one is walking by flesh and not by spirit , heart and mind are also prayer (mental) meaning connected to God not to the devil
