Why Bother to Attend Holy Mass?

Apart from obeying a precept of Mother Church, what is the purpose for attending Holy Mass? Christ lives in Heaven interceding for us principally by His sacrifice on Calvary. Holy Mass is the exact projection of this continual sacrifice. At Holy Mass, we are united to Christ. If temporal food gives life to the body, Heavenly Food gives gives life to the soul. For Mass and Holy Communion we must fix an intention at the Offertory; we must unite ourselves to the priest. The Catechism of the Council of Trent: "Holy Communion is an antidote for our daily faults." Our Lord wants to know what He can do for us. Thank God I found this. This sermon made me put all my effort into meditating while serving Mass and then keeping my eyes closed during thanksgiving until I just absolutely couldn’t anymore and found I was meditating for eighteen minutes. Thank you my God, thank you my Guardian Angel!

Thank you so much Father. I do not know why this was never explained to me as perfectly clear before. Even the Priests seem to leave so little a time after we receive our Lord to thank him and tell him we love him or just to be with him. We only have 15 minutes between when Sunday mass ends and the next begins. And I used to be one of those that just walked out of the church and off to breakfast may God forgive me. Praise Jesus after watching EWTN I realized my errors. Praying that all Catholics return to church and not waste a single intention to ask for and always give our Lord the Thanksgiving he so much deserves from each one of us. Can you ask for more than one intention? I try to ask for the healing of a dying sister or happy death for her and all those suffering, for my family and those with no one to pray for them in purgatory, the conversion of sinners, holy priests and the Pope, and help to never let me offend him myself.

If there was ever a time to ask Our Lord for anything...it is for our bishops and the church. ASK for their salvation and for the salvation of Francis. I think he may need it a lot right now.....

Wow! I didn't know this about the Offertory. I don't think it was something talked about in the old Baltimore catechism from back in the day as far as I can remember, and I'd bet dollars to donuts it's not mentioned now. No wonder I'm gravitating more and more to the TLM, which I didn't know existed when I returned to the church 3 years ago. It is so much more profound than the mass at my NO parish. Excellent Teaching on the Catholic Mass. How each of us must have an intention after the Creed during the Offeratory like asking for a Holy death mentally placing it with the host and the drop of water is added to the wine (the water is us) We unite ourselves to both the off story and the prayer asking for humility and contrition. Also an intention should be made during communion which is an antidote for our daily faults. Make communions for a specific intention to help our salvation example help us control our anger.. Our Lord remains within us for 15-20 minutes. We must ask Jesus what we need help with. Do not waste a good reception with Jesus who wants to help us get to heaven. We must speak to him.

So, in other words, our prayers are offered up to the Father by the Son and through His merits, we get the graces in Communion. If we don't place our intentions on the Host at the Offertory, how can we get the graces in Communion - the Father can only grant us what we ask for? It's all starting to make sense ...finally. THANKS!!! Addendum: Please correct me if I'm wrong but this Sacrament is meant to make us absolutely sure that we do, in fact, receive the graces we ask for in prayer.

Dear Father, I’ve received mass all my life. Since I came here, the priest offered Eucharist and it was some sort of raw meat. I asked the priest and he said that he was instructed my higher authority to make it that way. I’m confused!

al meggs Our Catholic Priests Need only to do the consecration in Accordance to the form of Holy Mother Church for it to be a valid consecration. Whether a Priest is in a state of Grace or not makes no difference regarding the validity of consecrating the Blessed Sacrament. The same is true for all of the 7 Sacraments. But we should always pray for our Priests on up to the Pope to be faithful and holy. The Priest is in Persona Christ.. Jesus is there acting through the Priest as you hear the words "This Is My Body.. And This is My Blood"
