Fr. Relyea it is great to hear your sermons. Pride is the first sin of the angels and our first parents. It is insidious and needs to be fought with mental prayer and sacraments at all times. Humility can only be appreciated with the grace of God and we need to be aware of God's correction when we are blind to our own pride! When we think we are humble its a sure sign that our pride is active in our lives. Check the fruit of your charity as a barometer of your humility!! God bless you and your apostleate!

Just so it is understood that that goes not just for Traditionalists, but for all of the many bullying and ridiculing Modernist Catholics that scorn Traditionalists. Includibg priests who verbally chastise Traditionalists AS THEY RECEIVE COMMUNION on tbeir knees, tongues extended, females.wearing veils, telling them to get up bc they are making spectacles.of themselves. When I think about being a priest, I think it would be great to spend my life saying the traditional latin mass every day, hearing confessions, and taking care of a parish. And you know, in my area there seems to me a hatred for the latin mass. And priest who seems more traditional seems to be send into exile. The priests that get promoted seem to be the most liberal priests we have. And even other priests it seems there are people who make it their job to make life hard for them. The point is, all of these political games that people like to play, it's pride and you can see it in people who are constantly tripping their power. You see, I could never be a priest and just be a priest. I would have to constantly battle these professional Catholic politicians. I would be persecuted for wearing a cassock, for saying the latin mass, even for spending too much time in the confessional, or for having mass last longer than 45 minutes. Depending on the parish, I would probably get letters sent out to the bishop every week. (I would probably enjoy responding to the bishop telling him how big of a sinner I am too.) All of this crap goes on between all groups of Catholics today, it is the real reason why dioceses don't have vocations. I never hear a priest here tell us from the pulpit that we are hypocrites and sinners full of pride, they tell us that we are good people because we showed up at mass. And really, it seems that even participating in parish life is an occasion for sin. It's really important that traditional communities learn how to be humble like this priest says, it's the only way God will answer your prayers for priests and for parishes, and for the old mass.
@jasondavis60096 жыл бұрын
Catholics fighting Catholics, Christians fighting Catholics etc. Let's unite. Lets pray for all of those who follow Jesus Christ. Lets stop correcting each other but offer praise for each others devotion. Lets pray for the conversion of all to our dear lord. We dont gain anything by bringing up each others downfalls brother. If another man puts down your faith smile at him and listen to his concerns while offering a prayer. We have enough to battle with in the spiritual realm without going to war with our fellow brothers.

George Penton Not at all. It is God working thru us that unites all things. GAL 2:20
@elsieandandrew5 жыл бұрын
I think the main difference is intent. Are we using our gifts to build ourselves up and develop reputation, popularity etc OR are we acknowledging that God gave us unique gifts and offer them back to him. They’re not contradictions-the important thing is to realize everything we have is a gift from God and that we did not do anything to create ourselves and give ourselves gifts and talents. Hope that makes sense. Our gifts our meant to build gods kingdom and everything we have is for our sanctification, the minute we think we’ve actually done something pride can start growing. Humility is the most confident state to be in-because we acknowledge we’re an image of perfection (God) and also know we are loved and gifted beyond measure and because it came from an immovable God, we can be like that forever. Gratitude to God keeps the perspective and leads to truer happiness.

Good sermon except the intense chastisement and shaming of Traditionalists made me cringe. , I don't think that necessarily indicates a defect or lack of humility on my part. The reverse has been my experience for over a half.century. An inverted and defensive type of snobbery, towards Trads, w them so often and so readily accused (via insinuation, or more overtly) for being intolerant and judgmental, looking down on others, behaving in holier than thou manner, etc.. I have been looking for this among those at my Trad church, but I have never seen even a hint of it so far. Also, one remark hit close to home, as I had gone to my former NO parish priest to talk, at the suggestion of the deacon. NOT to school him,.but to present my concerns and certain info. and to very respectfully ask how he, as a good priest whom I respecred, can reconcile w tbese things. I was so nervous I was in tears. After receiving what amounted to a non answer, I was led to the chapel to pray after a snide remark A week later we exchanged greetinfs as I entered church for a Holy Day Mass. it was awkwardkly worked into it sonehow about how people should not be telling othjers how to pray. (sitting in 2nd row, I cringed then, too. And never went back.) IA coincidence? I had to work upl nerve to kneel for communion at NO Mass for fear of beibg judged by others as being overly showy and pious. . PF ridicicles Trads. Maybe there are all these arrogant Trads, tjat I have not met, or am blind to, (including myself?) @Daniel Pan - Ihave a different take.on what you wrote..(but did yiu mean tbe NO who are like Bergoglio, or . that most of N.O, jis just.as Bergoglio .. that's why the niuns stressed those commas! I😊) I'm.a Traditional Catholic, and I thank God for the grace of being led there. I know of MANY very devout and sincere Novus Ordo Catholics. Many do not even know about Traditional Catholocism. Many have no Trad Mass anywhere near where they live. So,.many of these Catholics will be future Trad Catholics. There is no question that there are many Catholics (layity and clergy) who display shocking contempt for Trad Cat., But, for the MANY others, I can't help but to be humbled by their faith, for hanging in there, when so many feel the helpLess.oppression of N.O. that has driven so many away, to either Trad Cat, to Protestantism, or to.abandon the Church entirely. ... I respectfully urge you to reconsider tweaking the wording/labeling of "most" N.O. this way. I don't mean to deny you your own, personal experience. But, It is too easily counterproductive for us, personally, and even more importantly, it reflects negatively on Trad Cars,.as we are so often labeled as acting self righteous, holiier than thou. The devill really IS in the details of how we articulate things. I habe also been tbe target if.scorn, and knkw of other Trad Cats who have been treated atriciously by N.O layity and clergy, so I do get it! .❤ God bless you! 🌷
@finallythere1004 жыл бұрын
@Daniel Pan - Agreed, and thanks for taking my reply in good faith... but here is the conundrum,.as I see and experiencrd it.. (1) Having an attitide of contempt isn't the same as what you describe, and doesn't necessarily go hand in hand. (Although many can becone indignant by having anyone suggest they can no longer enjoy some of the pleasures to which they have come to exoect under 6th a d 9th Commandments.) (2) Many NO Catholics TRULY have no idea of what all constitutes sin, from the Commnadments to the 7 Deadly Sins, to receivi g Commu ionwhile in mkrtal sin, and all the implications. I':ve been Trad for only a year, and it's been an astonishing learning curve. We were denied our faith teaching even in Catholic schools. As for contraceptin, I NEVER heard, even in Catholic HS, that contraception is forbidden, much less that "rhythm method" required exrraordibary circumstances. In fact, we were actually taught contraceotion use by nuns in health class. We were shown inappropriate movies in grade school (never realized HOW inaplropriate parts of Little Big Man were until I watxhed it again, recently. We were shown Future Shock w gay marruage at a church. And then the condescending movie Inherit the Wind..Priests shrug off premaritlal sex issue to one to whom one is marrying or has already married. I can go on and on. So even if a Catholic knows sonething is not allowed on sone level, there is maybr a convenient presumotion that that, too, maybe has changed. The pervasive damage and sin of denying us this is massive beyiond anything else imaginable. (collectively.) Add to that the proflound erosion of credibility of anything in religious ed or said by priests. So here is my concern... I believe what Trad priests say about us being graced w the understanding, and being brought to Trad Cat. Some youbg adults have now grown up w it but most have not. It's our mission/duty/calling, I believe, to reach out to N.O. Catholics as much as we can. I was drawn to Trad Cat bc of my frustration w Bergoglio, and w the N.O. Mass. It mattered not if I LIKED the Mass, I changed bc I knew this was truth, and that I would have to acceop what went w it. I did grapple w a few things, early on, but I hung in there and came to realize (maybe out of search, prayer for discermnent, and 7 Sorrows Devotion, which I had never even heard of before btw.) until I understood and the truth of it resonated w me on a more complex level. So, we really need to recognize where they are, as well as recognize defensiveness. While trying to enlighten them . Even people that mock us can come to see the light. They nay be the very ones struffling thr most, as perceived truth threatens thekr way of life, even their non-Catholic marriages. (3) I was shocked to hear Fr. Ripperer speak of prideful Trad Cats, as my experience was always oppositte. Since this all broke out in late 1960s. They were vicious to Trads and many still are. In conclusion, you are sorely needed, as each of us are, to reach out to lapsed or NO Catholics, as well as others. I have found that many are surprisingly open, but we must tread carefully! I pray for discernment to communicate in a way that will not label or insult them as a group , but in a way that will "magnify the Lord." by HS working thru me. I think it has helped, but I still struggle at times 😂. Anyway, thx for reading this LONG message. I am inerested in ways to reach out to local Catholic HS to visit the Trad Mass, maybe keafn Fubctional Latin, learn aboit and actualky see Gregorian Chant at Mass, etc. There is lots we can do! God bless you! PS there js a 23 min video about Dr. Roy Schoeman's conversion. I think you'll like it if you have nkt already seen this particular one!

@Daniel Pan - It's good that you have the courage and conviction to speak truth to ohers. It needs to be said. . Otherwise , many will not hear it at all. I know that frustration, but you never know when you have really planted a seed. Change, evolving is a slow, complex process. ... I can tell you that I've been surprised quite a number of times to hear from a relative or old friend, who tell me that my talks w them about the Church/ faith decades earlier, had stayed w them. (and all the while I thought I was being maybe overbearing, and entirely forgetable!) So if not YOU, than WHO?! We have been graced w this gift of Traditional truth, and so "to whom much is given, much is expected." (and Ive decided to embrace Matthew 5:10 and offer up for Reparationa if I'm scorned for it. Kind of takes some of the sting out of it,.especially if it is a negative reaction from.a priest.) One more thing, I've had some success w others sharing videos by Fr. Ripperer, and of course about Dr..Roy Schoeman, etc,, which discuss the WHY of Traditional dogma. .I figure it might be more palatable than hearing it from me.😂. And the messages of Our Lady of LaSalette, Our Lady of Akita, even Garanandal. They all point to the problems w V2. And they re all consistent w The 3 Days of Darkness, and rhe need to be IN A STATE OF GRACE! That actually has been sonething more tangible.to get their attention. That St. Padre Pio was one of those that received measage on 3 D of D is pretry credible to many. I've even had candles blessed for others for this purpose to give them. It-s a very tangible thing, althoughj it is not a part of formal Church dogma (3 D of D and approved Mariam Apparitions) . Oh, and Im trying to get the transcript for a sermon from my Trad parish, discussing the terrible (but COMMON) sim of receiving Holy Communion while NOT in a state of grace. This is probably like EVERYONE in NO church, bc it is just not. on their radar. Someone HAS to say it, and that transcript can say it much better than I can. It's really tough to ignore, and the NO church is NOT saying it! When I go back to a NO Mass,.at tines, I can hardly believe the difference in sermons. People need to at least hear this sruff. But even w huge parishes, Confessionnis are only offered for an hour a week. My small biut growing Trad parish hears hundreds a week! This is the kind of thing Ii hope to be focusing on more in forseeable futire..And your feedback to me has been helpful/ enlightening. Keep uo the good work, and God bless you! 🌷 ..

The Tridentine Mass is beautiful, and reverent, and all that. Yes, keeping a grip on where you came from, is important. But this idea that because you live within an SSPX parish, and only attend the High Mass, it means you are more sanctified than us lowly, ignorant, unwashed Novus Ordo people, seems to be divisive, at best. We all know where that comes from. Do some parishes take it too far, or too many liberties, with the “new” Mass? Absolutely. But there are great presbyters who work to keep the Novus Ordo Mass as reverent as possible, and insert as much “ traditional” liturgy into the Mass as possible. Doesn’t mean you don’t receive the same amount of indulgences, or as much grace, as those who attend the traditional Mass.
@delmiller75723 жыл бұрын
Fr. Relyea sounds like the Pharisee in that how dare anyone correct him. The hypocrisy in the sermon knows no bounds. Charity; humility; there is none. If there is arrogance in the Traditionalists from his parish, it must be from a lack of catechesis.
@ernestimken58466 жыл бұрын
The church teaches humility? That's like saying I need patience and I need it now! Humility comes from a satisfied soul (Psalm 23:1). Pride draws us away from humility. Jesus is our example (Philippians 2:8).
@monus7825 жыл бұрын
I wonder how the congregation reacted to this sermon. Also, regarding the feminists are you telling us that women should get back to the kitchen then?
@elsieandandrew5 жыл бұрын
the feminist movement is a movement of pride in many ways. He didn’t specifically say “get back to the kitchen” but Mary was the ultimate example of humility and she is the greatest human ever created.... your level of greatness in Jesus eyes seems to match your level of humility because God is the one who created us and exalts. The more we rely on ourselves the less we allow God to perfect us to his original image. What is the motivation behind modern feminism? “Women will rule the world” at least that’s wjay I see a lot of young feminists say. “Who run the world” by Beyoncé is a good example. Remember God runs the world and we are subject to his will. Feminism is full of pride. pride is something that everyone has to actively fight against. Just like we have to brush our teeth everyday and take care of our physical body actively-our soul is the same.
